  • I was at Rainbow '81, an incredible experience. It was worth it simply to be out in the mountains under a clear sky at night--I'd never seen stars like that. Most amazing for me though were the jams at Madame Frog's Teahouse: wonderful guitar, fiddle, mandolin, harmonica players, not to mention the dude with a sitar could make the thing sing!

Weird, some of the negative comments here. Since when did making your own music in the woods become so threatening?

  • Right on lol I miss my family! Some of you folks are a deep part of my soul! At 48 with yrs of sober living I am still a holdout and remain true and honest and pass it on through my daughter. True blue American ,world person a lover of color especially natures gifts ,we hold true and understand integrity ,I thank you my brothers and sisters My life has been made better with your love. Pass it on Rick Wichita Ks. Via western slope Colorado

  • What is the song that plays at about 3:15? Is it just a rainbow-folk song that was made up? Or is this a song someone wrote that I could get a recording of? It's pretty groovy!

  • maybe with another war north america could vanish those hyppis from the earth.

  • I'm being interviewed in Part 1 and commenting on the oatmeal and mentioning I'm from Long Island. Thanks for interviewing me. A year after this interview, I discovered acting as my calling.

  • @zipmiester69 who are you? acting now as?

  • I do respect their positive, loving, and carefree spirits. As a believer in Christ, I am opposed to pagan religion. But as for the many other things these people stand for... for those things alone I would love to hang out with these wonderful people at a rainbow gathering.

  • @WanderingRover There are lots of Christians at the Gathering, such as the Bread of Life tribe.

  • Taste the rainbow?

  • family,

we can not know where to go or what to become if we do not know where we came from...i urge everyone to share this and remind our brothers and sisters why we do what we do

    i love you all

  • congratulations rainbows on another successful gathering!peace, joy and fun to the beautiful people camping in heartsContent,Pa.

  • i have been to one gathering...and plan on attending this year...its amazing... i have never really considered myself the hippie type but after spending one month in the woods with them..well it changes you.

  • @leigh518

Tell me more about it, what do they do exactly? I'm thinking about going to the Finland gathering.

  • the world was a very different place back then

  • hey when & where is the next gathering?

  • The rainbow warriors will bring the souls of fallen natives in the shape of the same white men who killed them on the conquer of north america, and will bring peace, joy and respect for the earth and for earthlings...

    so be it.

  • ive dug a shitter at

    a gathering

    why not

    no really

  • Please, come if you want! You don't need to worry about ANYTHING!!! Just dig a shitter please!

  • soooo cooool

  • Why don't you put this up as a bit torrent and save a dvd and starve the USPS.

  • Glory. A good reminder that it was about healing. Nice to have Ram Dass's darshan. The young man's story is all too familiar. He tried to contribute. No one supported him. All he was left with were scars.

    May all beings be healed

  • Who would willingly want to live in something that resembles a refugee camp? I can understand the "peace, love, living, giving sharing" crap...But that doesn't mean you can't have a shower.

It would really do some justice if when these people are interviewed, along with their name, they can display their highest level of education completed :-/

-I imagine that these gatherings eventually culminate to a massive orgy at some point?

  • i was at this one-no orgies. alot of singing and praying happened. its funny how much negativity this attracts from viewers.

  • if you understand it, then it would not be "crap" to you. it would be important, it would be beautiful, and that's what these people are demonstrating.

  • It's astonishing to think how far people who live in suburbia (such as I'm sure you do) have fallen. So it's come down to cursing the lifestyle of a few people who choose peace in the woods over capitalism and greed in the city?

I feel sorry for you greyestofblue, because you would never be open minded enough to go out and experience a life of peace, if only for a week.

  • The Rainbow is in New Mexico this year. Do a search for Welcomehome

    Peace and Love

  • Alot of violence? That is not true at all. The biggest incident to ever happen at a gathering as far as I know was in big sandy last year, and it was in one part of the gathering and only lasted for 10 minutes of one day... Otherwise it was a very peaceful event. I don't want people to be afraid to come to gatherings, they are very safe in my opinion.

  • I lived in the Rainbow peace camp outside of Ashland Oregon right after this gathering. And i've been to quite a few gatherings. None recently. Rainbow people for the most part are great folks. There are the bad elements but any group has them. Gatherings are supposed to be peaceful. The gatherings anymore are scenes of alot of violence. Funny how none of this ever happened until the forestry service & the cops started getting involved.

  • Yep, I've been to rainbow gathering! Great if you like drugged out idiots!

  • That's when the hippy women were youthful and weren't clones of Cass Elliot.

  • rainbow people are really cool and they love the earth

  • The world needs more of these gatherings

  • defenitly

  • true that

  • I went to the rainbow gathering in 93. Worst experience of my life!

  • I just noticed that is Dr. Piehler at 5:45. I'm sure.

  • Ram Dass!!! YES!!!! AMAZING MAN!!!

  • the music is so strong in these vids... all those voices harmonizing so confidently, very inspiring! (& oh to bring that back...)

  • I totally enjoyed seeing all parts of this gathering!!! It was so much fun to hear us singing our "No Money" song....do you have any more video footage of this 1978 gathering in your archives??? I ask because, when this was televised, my Mom and sister said that I was singing with my daughter, Stephanie on my hip (she was 10 months old), and I didn't see her in any of the videos. If you do, I'd love to see the uncut stuff too!! Charlene

  • Thank you for sharing. Gods family is a beautiful thing it is. Yahweh Bless

  • when are they going to host a rainbow meeting in oklahoma!! in tulsa!! wanting to attend one.

  • Beautiful Video!

    Thanx for sharing!

  • This is awesome--ah,that 70's spirit! I've been to three gatherings, 91, 94 and '02 and this clip brought it all back and then some! I went camping in the 70's every year of my life and Rainbow gatherings have always reminded me of the best times to be had out in nature with family- a model of the world yet to come. At the end of Center Circle at the 2002 National, the Creator blessed us all with a majestic Sun dog big as the sky--all that ommm brought the whole thing home. Pace.

  • All my brothers and sisters working and living. Garrek is so young. This is the biggest show of civil social realignment ever.

Brings tears and smiles to my face.

  • As I read the posts here I get a few pretty negitave hit. What a shame. Were you there?? For MY part..I was a newly returned VietNam vet and the involvement with the Gatherings may have Saved My Life. They certainly healed my spirit and my Faith in the Human Spirit. I have been devoted to positive endevours ever since and I credit that Greatly to the Examples I experienced with The Rainbow Gatherings♡♡ JaySun H New Mexico

  • I was there at this gathering JaySun, a pretty lost and brokenhearted person, pregnant with my first daughther. My truth is that the love I felt at the gatherings became a vision for me of what could be possible. Thanks for sharing your experience, my other posts mirror your thoughts. Peace to you brother.

  • Hey bro ... glad to C U here! Love and kisses ... :-) Henry

  • It's funny that these rainbow videos never show the smoke from the bonfire at cleanup where they burn all the crap that was left behind. plastic, nylon, stinky clothes, etcetera, etcetera

  • fruitcakes!

  • loving , fun and visionary fruitcakes! yah had tah be there. : )

  • I dont know how many people know that drug use was really discouraged at the early gatherings. I also think trying to love each other is one of the things God wants us to do with our life , this was an attempt, no matter how flawed.

  • why would you think that's what you see? I saw loving people at their best, trees, a beautiful landscape, and felt completely protected, camping by myself at age 17. It is still that way. We now have Kiddie Village- safe enough for our kids.

  • More fruitcakes, please! The sours have all gone stale.

  • so, what do fruitcakes turn into? I turned into a social worker who still thinks our job is to love each other and the earth as hard as we can and never, never give up on ourselves or anyone else.

  • actually, i work providing services for people with chronic mental illness, trying to keep them out of the hospital and in the community. sorry you have such bitterness toward social workers.

  • @user38293 ans also take innocent children out of abusive situations. a social worker does alot of good. would you rather nobody out there taking babies out of meth labs? its not ruining peoples lives its making the best out of a bad situation.

  • haha! I'm going to Buff State!

    One Love!

  • Were those guys from the New Buffalo Commune?

  • No, in 1973, folks from communes and alternative places got flyers inviting all who wish to pray for Peace to Gather in CO on part Hopi land for a week. It was so special that all agreed to gather yearly, in a differing States, allowing the land to heal. This one is 1978. They still take place, much improved with Kid Village, musical groups playing, workshops, etc. They're free. If you want to get more info & come, write!

  • Do you know who the boy born at this Gathing on the 5th of July, I'm the girl bvorn on July 3rd at this Gathering, I'm looking for him.

  • I was good friends with one of the women who had a baby at the gathering, I lived in Boulder with her and then she moved to near Grants Pass, Oregon. I was pregnant with my daughter Alana at this gathering, some people heard I had her there but I had her later in August. I cant remember if my friend had a boy or girl.

  • good to hear from you family

    Blessed Be

  • i really can't wait to go to this years rainbow gathering myself and meeting all the great people that will be attending too!

  • I think I'm going to buy this Dvd. I'd love to go to a gathering, but I'd have to go with my dad (unless I wait 3 years) and he isn't very fond of the Krishna, and isn't as...peace love and harmony as he may have once been. So, here's to waiting 3 years ><

  • Wow to stumble upon this in google!

I have been to 4 rainbow gatherings, '76 in Montana, '?? Washington (or Oregon?) Cal. '84, Utah 2002.

I saw several people I knew and in particular one man who became a lover about a year later on at an All One Family Gathering at Harbin Hot Springs in California and whom I danced with in the woods for countless time. He opened my ability to move my body with dance in free abandon.

  • There were so many fantastic and special people. I remember Medicine Story, Dream Story, Jonathan, his brother, Black Eagle, Yoshi, Fantusi, Feather, Michael Blue Sky, Warren, Owl, Blue Sky,(Blue Sky Sailing High) Sunflower, Crystal MoonFlower, Cherly, Ouapiti, Native American Elders, Especially of the Black Foot Tribe.

  • There were Hari Krishnas, All One Family, The Om Tribe, The Love Family, Extraterrestrials, and of course the Raimbow Family. There were wizards and withches, healers of all kinds, Sweat Lodges, and Medicine Pipe Ceremonies, Births and deaths, medicine wheels, healing circles, breathing breathing breathing till light radiated out all countence. There were increible crystals and all kinds of spiritual and earthy medicines.

  • Forever in the moment. Forever taking in and letting go..

In this video one brother said that nothing happens and everything happens. So many times over the years I have been at a loss for what occurs at a gathering. I have narrowed it down to this....

  • Mind expansion, opening heart, moving in fearlessness

trusting energy, finding prophecy, touching your soul and giving it a voice

touching other's souls, and hearing their souls voice.

Finding heart to heart love, with so many people,

pure radiant joy, unbound by social constraint, experienceing the oneness of humanity,

nature, the mother earth and father sky....and all this without drugs....

    at least for me.

  • I have missed this reality, this dance.

Oh God! How I have given thanks for the Medicine that came my way through Rainbow gatherings.

    Welcome Home and Om Namaste.
