For an interesting point of view on this movie, see a blog post by one Mathimaran on Wordpress. If you Google in Tamil, Mathimaran and Sindhubhairavi, you can find the blog.
The Brahmins & Telugus ruling TN for over a millenium called Tamil a Neesha Basha and hence Tamil was never allowed inside musical halls. Telugu was called a musical language and Tamil was called untouchable.
The Seven note music was the creation of Tamils and alas! the same Tamil was called untouchable and hence prevented being used for music.
On the other hand Telugu was called a musical language.
It is not just this. By loosing their political rights, Tamils lost every thing.
Hi Vilamby to add on, the Vijayanagar empire & Travancore kings used Untouchability to divide and rule the Tamils. Temples were used as the administrative capital by these folks hence prohibited entry for the locals. In fact, it is Tamils who used the Astrology concept of 12 planets to place the notes and created the Pann (Ragam) Pattern in during the Sangam age when no one across the world was aware of Music note concept. Now Tamils are enslaved by Cinema and TASMAC.
in all honesty i don't know jack about this genre of music but i like it. :D and sorry if this offends u, but i just start laughing my ass off every time the guy in the glasses gives a serious glare. XD it's like *singing singing singing GLARE! singing singing....* :P
@evilpinky718 ..this song is a part of a movie..and the lady who is singing is challenging the guy,who is a famous and renowned musician......In her songs, she criticises the musician's lack of sincerity towards his audience and his ego....that is why the guy is giving that LOOK........
finally he understand that she is intellectually equal to him and falls in luv with her......the lyrics is very meaningful ...and this song starts with one genre(nadan pattu) and ends with another(carnatic)
@evilpinky718 ..movie's name is sindhubhairavi..its a tamil movie..sindhu is the lady whu is challengin him in this song, with whum he falls in love..and bhairavi is the name of his wife.
sindhubhairavi is also the name of a raaga( note system) in carnatic music,in which this guy is expert . most of the songs in this movie r based on singhubhairavi raga.
Is it like evvvvvvvvvvvvvvvry good video should have loads of junk comments right below it...!?!? All those who run behind languages n states n music forms (folk, carnatic, Hindustani etc.,)... Get this into your wooden skull that MUSIC HAS NO LANGUAGE..... MUSIC IS GODLINESS....the more you try to take your language or musical form higher n higher, the more you are moving away from divinity....!! P.E.A.C.E....!!
the discussion is very lively and engrossing.chitra sang as she only can slng.i may be permitted to make only one remark.there is no carnatic music without telugu.
@somasarva ..heyy heyy...dont say that carnatic songs doesnt mean telugu..it isnt under the monopoly of any languages.....maybe u are telugu thatz why u are saying so..... maybe u shud hear more malayalam songs...:)
freinds, i am extremely sorry for what i have written below. I should not have commented like that such a good music and film. I saw this film and listened songs. I love music of all types. Again sorry
KB after splitting with IR,joined with maragathamani for his next Movie. The movie was "AZHAGAN ".He wanted to send IR a message that he got national award for Sindhu Bhairavi only because of him, hence he included a song similar to " padariyen "in azhagan and that is"thathithom",which was sung by chitra with a lot of swaras and stuff.KB xpected that it wud get national award. But It hardly reached even the audience. IR rules.I am not degrading KB.
@TheVishal0007 it is raga Saramathi. If you want to listen to more of this raga, just type 'Mokshamu Galada' on search and I'm sure you'll get a lot of results. btw, 'mokshamu..' is a verrrryyyy famous karnatic song.
A song so simple, yet so complex. Ilayaraja is a genius. Chithra has rendered it so effortlessly and melodiously. Beautiful lyrics. Awesome Saramathi Ragam!!
Excellent song, music, very good photography, I love this song. Let us enjoy the song than comparing our own two great musicians. Both are great and have given wonderful performances which cannot be forgotten for next several centuries.
a small tidbit. Chitra missed her university exam to sing this song. It seems Raja told her "What more recognition can you get than a National Award. Skip the exam and sing this song. You are certain to get the award." Such was the confidence of the man on his music and choice of singers...
Can anyone imagine such divine music being composed by A.R.Rehman, the so called Oscar winner. I just hate his music (Humma, Humma... is a super hit) -bull shit. Gen-X will never get this into its head. With Gen-X taking over, beat him badly in his career. Singers like SPB and Yesudas have praised a ton for this man . I dont think I have seen any such for A.R.Rehman in any of the interviews. Sorry, if i have been one sided, but it is what it is, unfortunately.
Its like comparing Sachin Tendulkar and Don Bradman. Say what u want, A R is great in his own way. Just because u like IR more, why bring AR down. So narrow minded
Every music directors has their way of music. AR & IR r g8 music dirs. u know guys AR ones works 4 IR, & another think that every music dir have a prob that 1 song similar to another, IR & AR included; IR's most of the 80's songs similar to pop A.E.Manoharan, but IR nothing 2 do with it cos IR's way of music similar 2 him at that point. how 2 put it lets say same taste of music. 1 think i can say every1 has their talent & a way, so let's appreciate them, so guys please don't compare 1 to another
so-called? He *is* an Oscar winner. And, such divine music has been composed by ARR as well. Some of his qawwalis are out of the world.
"I dont think I have seen any such for A.R.Rehman in any of the interviews"
coz you are blinkered. Listen to what SPB has to say about ARR in "Koffee with Anu" show (he praised Raja too). Yesudas has praised ARR a lot as well. Not to mention, P.Susheela, S.Janaki, Asha, Lata and a host of other singers.
I am a big fan of Raja too. To me Raja is the best music director in the world. I like ARR too. More than anything, I am a music lover and a true music lover will never diss geniuses like Raja or ARR.
Very shallow and narrow minded thinking. Where is it written that only one person has to be great in history? Both of them are great in their own rights. And most people enjoy songs from both of them.
@arunsoundar Everyone knows ARRahman is a genius. It just seems like a lot of people cannot accept the fact that a new super composer took over after Ilayaraja had been ruling for years. ksantosh100 said it right. Sachin Tendulkar is our present hero. And you can't compare him to Gavaskar or Kapil Dev and say that the older generation played the game better for whatever reasons it may be.
why you people not make any more movies like this. i have seen a few tamil movies ( i am not a tamil by the way). but let me tell you most of them cannot match the standard of some balachander, and bharatiraja movies. bharatiraja has made some really wonderful movie. like them verymuch. but at the same time you people make some crap movies like Kuruvi,

@perugubalu
lastly this movie o song nothing about hatred towards telugu song, the audiance didn't understad the language thus they aren't respected appropriately as such it is suggested that oncewhile it is ethical to sing in a language which the audiance understands.
kindly please don't write a derogatory remarks and provoke something that not exist.
