I hope in the next Strider game you can cut through most generic enemies in one cut without stopping unlike in Devil May Cry or in Ninja Gaiden. With little beat em up elements.
This game was so hard on Normal mode for me. I can't even imagine how insane Hard mode is when I try it out. Love Strider, but damn its a challenging game.
OMG I remembe this one. One of the first 8 meg games for Genesis. I bought this for $80 and completed it in one day on hard mode. What a waste of money. Cool graphics though
@mcsvideos The japanese version had this grunting! The emulation is perfect. @klaitu2 only knows the american version :) I prefer the japanese, mostly because of this voice.
@cosmonal Wow, i don't yet played the american version of this game so much. I think the grunting was the sound of the sword in the Gens emulator, that i used in this video.
@mcsvideos I think the grunting he means is the 'dog' like sound, the voice that follows the sharp, high frequency sword noise :) The Gens emulator you used is perfect, the sound is 100% accurate. The american version doesn't had the character shouting while he attacks, just the sword noise. Anyway, great playthru, never tried on hard :)
This is the Japanese version. Your copy is the western version (either American or European). The Japanese version has extra grunts for the characters which, for some reason, aren't in teh western versions. That happens both with the original Arcade and Mega Drive port.
Still one of my fav' Genesis games of all time. I first played it in the arcades!!. Now, I have the Japanese Sega Mega Drive version (why? because it has extra voice samples not found in the US version). You guys should also check out Strider 2 for the PS One! I got the PS-X version too!! Ahhh Strider rocks!!
This is a badass game, I love it. I used to play the arcade version when i was in junior high at a gas station across the sreet from my school...damn I am old lol. I played it in Genesis too!
Man this brings back memories this game was a big deal when it came out for the Genesis back in the day, Not only because it had great game play, graphics, and sound but also because the size of the cart(not pyshical mind you) a whopping 8-megs, now a days it doesn't seem like much but back then it was the largest game done at the time.
I used play this a lot when I was a kid. Though I never could get past those squishing walls. Now it feels like something important has not been accomplished :)
guys i remeber this game and plz let me know if i can download it cz i was searching for it from a long time and didn't find it..so plz help me..thank u
The first home translation (or port) of Strider that was arcade-quality, that was just about as good as the CPS1 arcade game, was the Sharp X68000 version.
X68000 ( X68k for short) was a Japanese high performance computer.
X68K Strider was MUCH better than the MegaDrive/Genesis Strider. It came out (in Japan) in the early 1990s, years before the PS1 port that came with Strider 2, and years before arcade emulation was around.
X68K Strider absolutely SHITS on the MD/Genesis version.
shit, i wasted much money on the strider recreative

A very under-rated game... It deserves a remake with better story and more levels

That you would like a game about a hegdehog over a futuristic ninja,I don't know what do you think?
VBabareno 2 years ago
Yeah, I would because I grew up with sonic mostly. So I prefer sonic. It was my first game i've ever played and also got me into gaming.
Strider was an awesome game too and I very fond memories playing it as well.

The Genesis sounds are not as good as the arcade. The arcade was crisp.

Very true, but the arcade version lets you buy your way through the tough parts. Seeing a Genesis run leaves me more impressed.

What's all that grunting he's doing? its not like that on my copy.
klaitu2 2 years ago
It's because the sword's sound isn't perfectly emulated in the Gens, the emulator that i used for this record.
mcsvideos 2 years ago
@mcsvideos if i don't remember bad, the sound is different on the japanese version.
also, the music on some levels, battleship balrog and the last level before fighting meio, got different musics too.
in usa version, they repeat the music from the first level on that parts of the game.
and, well, the grunting it's hiryu when he uses the cipher(sword)
it happened too with the arcade version.
and, well, mate! outstanding playing!!!! strider it's not an easy game!!!

Also, the Sega logo in the US version looks very ugly compared to the Japanese version and is the same Sega logo used in Quackshot.
