  • IT'S A SINTHE BASS CURT CAN'T PLAY THIS LINE I SAW THEM MANY TIMES CURT IS A BAD BASS PLAYER THE ONLY SECRET OF TEARS FOR FERAS IS ROLAND

  • Wow! This is my first time seeing this video. Nice.

  • TFF did a performance live via satellite around 1985 New Years Eve on Dick Clark's rockin' show. they sung Shout if i remember correctly. they wore all black. does anyone have that performance on video? if yes please post it....tnx

  • Awesome this version! I didn´t know this version until now....great treasure found! Thanks!

  • the bass on this is utterly brilliant!!!(-:

  • Quit omitting the damn bass solo at the end of the song!!! That's the reason why I listened to it in the first place. this is the second version in a row that's chopped off the ending.

  • @melfan1968 *shrieks* what a moment with Roland! ♥♥♥

  • Of course it's great to see anything TFF related, but I am glad they redid this video. The second one actually features Roland and Curt, rather than just having them be "the band."

  • I'm puzzled, I'm a big fan of this song and TFF and I remember a video that had a chick in army uniform ('follow in the footsteps of a soldier girl'?) coming down the stairs near the start, doesn't seem to be on here. Or perhaps I imagined it.

  • @chrisnoaro1 this is 'version 1'

  • Tears For Fears will be performing in Manila this coming May 2. I'm definitely watching it!

  • TOTALLY FABULOUS!... This video is So much better before they sold out to the USA!

  • shouldn't this just be the origanal video

  • can anyone tell me if this version of mothers talk was released on dvd? and what was it called?

  • The female background vocals where that of Caroline Orzabal, at least they were on The Hurting album. Can't say about the single but definitely her on the album. Roland made comment on it in a fanclub zine back in the day.

Why yes, I am that old :)

  • @mrsrhythmnation i read it in an interview years ago, shes also in sowing the seeds of love...floating! lol

btw..why dont you list `japan` as one of your favourite bands? roland is a huge fan, he loves david sylvian. you gotta listen to `tin drum`. `the way you are` is influenced by that album.

  • @instituter Where don't I list Japan as one of my favourite bands? My entire musical taste isn't represented by what I list on my youtube page.

I am a Japan fan (Tin Drum possibly my favourite album of them) and I'm so happy to hear that Roland is too. Where did you find this out, I would love to read whatever interview you heard that in.

  • the lyrics are obviously

    "we can't

    we CAN work it out!"

    weekend just doesn't make sense.

I once read the lyrics in a vintage 1985 mag and it was "we can't, we can"...

Like a back and forth contradiction as in the beatles "getting better". It makes a whole lot of sense unlike "weekend"!

  • had this on 12 inch.all about the cold war.great song.

  • the woman singing is caroline orzabal.

    rolands wife.

  • @instituter where did you find out that? very interesting. i knew she sang on "suffer the children".

  • It's not Mrs Orzabal.

I'm told that it's Stevie Lange. Robert "Mutt" Lange's ex-wife.

  • ah the real version, not the sappy usa version

  • Jeez, I'd forgotten how much I used to love this song in high school. Thanks for posting it, takes me 'waaaaaaaaaaay back.

  • If only they'd taken out the tacky orchestra vooms and carried on with the funky stuff - which they obviously did so well ...

  • This version is so much better than the remixed version.

  • olny weekend! work it out

  • Thank god for Rage, one of the best shows on oz tv.

  • tears for fears rule

  • thankgod for rage lol go aus

  • Wait, who is that lady singing with them?

  • Interesting. I've only every heard the remix.

  • I'm surprised WMG hasn't pulled this song yet. I'm happy it's still here though - I hate it that I can't get access to half of my playlists anymore because they've been forced removed.

  • Comment removed

  • WMG hasn't pulled this video because it's not a Warner video. It belongs to Universal.

  • I hope they don't keep pulling videos. You know can't listen to the artist formerly known as Prince on Youtube because of copyright bs.

  • Well they haven't so far have they?

  • I'm glad that they didn't. This song is one of my fave's and i really like the group.

  • No, Thank God. I am not complaining, I am happy they are still here. I grew up during the 80's. I didn't even notice myself until fluent mentioned it.

  • this one is weired. it sounds just like the one where they are in the mountian area in bath.

  • They had some awfuly clever music videos. :D

  • ONLY WE CAN WORK IT OUT!

  • some of us are horrified others never talk about it!

  • When the wind blows When the mothers talk When the wind blows It's not that you're not good enough It's just that we can make you better Given that you pay the price We can keep you young and tender Following the footsteps of a funeral pry You're paid not to listen Now your house is on fire ;)

  • No it's FEATURES! My features form with a change in the weather

In Scenes From The Big Chair Roland was telling a story about how some mothers in england tell their kids, when they make a face, your face will stay like that when the weather changes. Hence the line my FEATURES form with a change in the weather.

  • Yo got that right, Nickel71

  • unforgettable!!

  • Great song!

  • I raced somebody down the highway to this song once. It was a warm spring evening, I had the sunroof open, and we were both doing about 140 km/h as I listened to the guitar part around 1:30. It was awesome

  • I like this version better, I don't care about videos, but this version of the song is more upbeat.

  • I like it. It may not be as jazzy or fun as the later versions, but y'know, the song is about nuclear missiles (among other things)...

  • I definitely like the 2nd one best. They just look like they are having so much fun in that one. And I do love Roland's moves!

  • I have heard that Roland and Curt were disappointed with this video for 'Mothers Talk'. The second version which was released in 1985 is better. Then there is another version (released in 1986) which is the best as far as listening is concerned but the video is not as good as the second one.

  • that little girl looks like the same one they used for A flock of seagull's nightmares video

  • Love tff. Just curious...who is the female singer???

  • tears for fears forever!!!!!!!!

  • I love that shirt on Roland. x3

  • Just the best! When i=I first heard this song a few weeks back I thought it was a little gay, but now I can't get enough of it! The way they use the different types of music, and keep it running smoothly is just amazing!

    Roland is also the best!

  • Curt is awesome too

  • Yep! I love him aswell, but Roland is something special to me!! <3

  • Why are you using "gay" pejoratively?

People who use "gay" as a synonym for "crap" or "rubbish" are assisting those people who want to see a return to an era of persecuting homosexuals. Fine, if that's your attitude go ahead but just don't think that it isn't a big deal.

  • i love the muscles!!!

    i love tears for fears!!!

  • as simple as ever,as genius as ever!!!

    orzabal d' best...tears for fears d' best!!!

  • carolan from poltergeist like special gest lol

gr8 song from ttf they really rock whit this song oh yeah

in ur face whit ian and kurt

  • CURT not KURT

  • this is missing the bass at the end! the best part! I love TFF and this song was one of my favs but you need to make a version with that mad bass at the end.

  • lol cool

  • vaya que buena musica , T.F.F!!

  • This is a great video but does anyone happen to have Version 2 of Mother's Talk because the drums in that version are way better and the I've never seen the entire video.

  • who's the girl in the video?

  • Is there a woman in the video?I'm just curious.

  • Roland's hair is much better too!

    Love this!

  • His hair is hott, haha lol.

  • I have no idea how many different versions they did of this lol. All I have 2 say is this song totally rocks! The instruments, the lryics, the rythem.......makes it seem like you're in a horror movie! It can also make you really spaz out if you dance to it! Great song~!!~~ My features form with the change in the wheather!! Weekend...we can work it work!!!!!!!! Yeah I love this song sooooo freakin much!!!!

  • this is the best version!

  • Man ! How many videos they did for this song?

3 I Think. And they did 4 or 5 version??

  • Always loved this song. Such energy!!!!!

  • my god how many diferent versions and videos were done for this lol. i think this is my fav thoe.

  • The best version of this song is the studio one. Its drums are just perfect! Download it, not the video, but the song, you might like it better than this version.

  • This version is excellent. I love the bass and DRUMS!

  • Gotta admit I like the later version more

  • man i wish they would put a whole com of there videos out but man there would be like 9 versions of Mothers Talk.

  • who's the backing singer? just curious.

  • This is original version of Mother's Talk. It was released in the U.K. in November 1984 abd was remixed for the U.S. version.

  • I remember when I saw them in Portsmouth, UK in concert and I was right under Roland's feet and I reached over and tied his shoe lace for him ... then he bent town when the song was done and said "thank you". And I almost peed in my pants!! lol ... I look back on it now and laugh and now I am 40 with 3 kids but I still love their music!

  • That's such a cute story! XD TfF is another great band I wish I could have been a fan of from the begining, but I'm only 24. There aren't any great new bands it seems. The ones I love who are still alive and together are from the 80's or begining of the 90's. Tears For Fears, Buck-Tick(Japanese), Pearl Jam. I've realy missed out on some great eras. Thank goodness these bands are still around at least.

  • @melfan1968 wicked!!!!

  • @melfan1968 wow how cool :) you wouldnt be able to do that nowadays, they'd all freak out you were trying to do something....ahhh the good ol days

  • @melfan1968 treasured moment....- guy from phil :)

  • I first heard this when I was in grade school, my classmate brought a walkman in class, when I tried it on it was this song that was playing loud and clear! from that moment on.. TFF became my favorite.

  • i learned about them throught that song i know this much is true i 've always liked roland more that curt and by the way this may be weird i'm 14 but love the 80's and this is my friends youtube name thing but really my favorite song is memories fade this song is like second best

  • A Fairlight ! WOW!

  • I just learned this existed. I've only seen version 3 on a cheap but official DVD. The things you can find here.

  • Oh this version is so much better...love it.

  • This is the only version that I ever remember from the time. I heard the other version very recently and this one is a million times better :-)

  • I;m with you, iberia77. The other verson of this song REALLY stinks!!!

  • I like this video version. I kind of like this video a bit more as it still captures the earlier T4F before they looked all American and went more commercial...

  • The British video version was awful the directors should be shot dead for it. Although the song was brillant I loved it. Take care Dave

  • Never saw this one,thx

  • God I forgot all about this version. This was shown in the Philippines only for a few months. It was replaced by version 2 I think - the one in the mountains.

  • Cool, but unfortunately the best part is missing.

  • The very ending where it's mostly the bass, huh?

  • Exactly

  • I agree, agolaci. The bass part IS the best part of the song!!!

  • @RioWalkers : I agree totally!

  • This is version 1, only released in the UK and selected European markets. Videos version 1 and 2 were both 1984. Version 3 was 1986 (and uses the US remix for audio).

  • Curt I WANT you !

  • This is erie. lol cp.

  • This is definitely the 1st and European version of Mothers Talk. By the look of their style it could even precede Shout even have a feeling that it could have been the first release from SFTBC. It is very The Hurting! The 1st is the best!!!!

  • mothers talk was the first thing they did it that direction yes. he was given a month off to write songs and he came up with this and "the way you are" so the way you are and this mothers talk is the last of the first album and the first of the second. haha roland my brother you rock!!

  • Yeah.. it's gotta be the first one.. the Canadian issue for the early Songs From The Big Chair EP... Nice to see Ian and Manny.. but who is the female singer?? Thats not Nicky Holland is it?? dont think so.. Digital graphics are sooo cool.. totally look super retro and Im sure at the time they were top technology, haha.. love it!! could get rid of the Linda Blair kid though.. all in all .. this video is a treasure! Video 1 of 3 versions of Mothers Talk...

  • Yes! Yes! Yes! I have waited years for this video!

There were 3 different video versions of "Mothers Talk". I believe this is the first and forgotten one...

  • No, it's the first one.

  • This is version 3 that I know f.

But this version actually reveals the other musicians involved.

    Good find

  • thanks, this is the version of the video I remember from the 80's!!!!!!

  • yeah baby! thanks

  • wow, thanks, i have waited a long time. it was wonderful.

    thanks again

  • i like this version better the original is always better did not think there was an video for this

  • thanks soooo much! i love tears for fears!

  • Very very much thanks for the video; ive been waiting 2,5 years for it
