  • Nobody could sustain and diminuendo like Fleta.

  • @321abcable Do you ever heard Tomàs Alcaide?

  • Maravillosa interpretacion!

    Bisous ...

  • He brings Wagnerian like complexity to these Italian parts (lazy thinking) I know. I absolutely adore this tenor. Sometimes I dream about listening to him sing Schubert lieder in German. His singing might be termed as self-indulgent if the standards dropped, but they never ever do. His technique always supports his reading.

  • Fleta is a magnificent Fernando...he dis-

plays not just one voice but many in

    this expressive and divinely nuanced

interpretation! He might be accused of

self indulgence, but he is exonerated

by the mesmerizing complexity of his

reading, the beauty of his voice and

the integrity of his emotional expres-

sion. Thank you for this unique and

    rare posting!

  • Superb!

  • I just listened Kraus spiritu gentil version from 1992. A miracle. No other tenor mastered such a high level of technique with the personal intelligence to produce interpretations that are truly an example of great artistry.

  • Wow, this is true mastery of piano singing.

  • Kraus said that Fleta was above and beyond any other tenor in his mastery of the bel canto technique. True, his idiosincrasies and interpretative liberties sometimes are considered exagerated or bad taste, but what is undisputable is the supreme control of his breathtaking dynamics at any part of his vocal range, specially when Fleta was a heroic tenor with power in reserve to fill any theatre and cut thru an orchestra like a refine toledan sword. Kraus a superb artist , Fleta a "voci phenomini"

  • my friend , kraus was such a gentleman he only thought of others. now while i respect your views, fleta who i find very good, i prefer kraus. listen to kraus,s early version, then one as he was a lot older which was nothink short of a miracle. and on this song i do belive kraus has no match..

  • I don't know how to cancel my mistaken click on the "thumbs down" mark. I entirely agree with your comment, WMP777, and wanted to give you the thumbs-up mark! Kraus is beyond reproach. Fleta is ... a vocal phenomenon.

  • Yes isn't that sad? Maybe that's a small contributor to the decline in quality opera singers- opera singers aren't supposed to have supermodel looks! In fact they generally sound best with a little extra weight it seems. It's no big deal- it's MUSIC.

And I saw a clip of a performance of Don Giovanni, and on the 'La ci darem la mano' part the soprano and baritone started to undress each other. Absolutely sickening. I guess no art form is escaping the sullying of this entertainment era.

  • surely his pianissimo is not in the same parish as mccormacks. Is someone out there dreaming?

  • Awesome!

  • One word. Exquisite!

  • I thought that I knew so much, but never even heard of this star of stars.Since then I cannot hear enough of him.He is truly awesome!!!

  • This tenor has possibly one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard.

  • This is the enchanted way to sing.unfortunately, nobody sings like him today...Nobody else. For Spirto gentil, the others don`t exist!!

  • Thanks for this record. Incredible. Nobody could match this singing.

  • AH!!!Y Rosa Ponselle!!Claro!!!

  • Fleta was a master of the high pianissimo and inspired Caballe to do likewise.

  • Yes,but caballè,at fleta`s side,is nothing....NOTHING!!!!

  • Marvelous singing, indeed. For some reason, I find similarities with his style of singing and Di Stefano's. What an amazing discovery to listen to such a genius, when we already seem to have heard the greatest singers. Thank you for posting this gem.
