North America refers to the ENTIRE of the Northern half of "the Americas".

The US is a country within North America. Canada is a country within North America.

As I said, North America consists of US, Mexico, Canda, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama, El Salvador and Honduras.

South America consists of another 12 countries. There's also "Central America", which is actually part of North.

If you're going to say Canada and North America are not the same thing, if you're then going to say "The US and North America are the same thing" then you're right, but so am I. While Canada isn't the entire of North America, it's part of it.
