The direction you went with the notes was done beautifully, seeing as your approach wasn't to mimic the vocalist, however the way I see it... the negative comments your getting I think stem from the fact that the style of singing you chose didn't come off as believable with the meaning of his lyrics. My constructive criticism is that your style gave a vibe of whiney desperation, instead of the hopeless, but accepting vibe of sadness in the song.
Singing without camera sometimes gives more confidence (: IMO. For example a lot of people has "Red Light Syndrome" :D - you play good if you don't know that someone is recording ^^
