this movie was filmed in Bay St. Louis . Ms. the Starr boarding house is still standing! it made it thru Hurricane Katrina and has been fixed up with the railroad area w/ shops, restaurants, etc, love this movie! i always pass that house whenever i can!
Well said! I second that emotion! Not a bad film, which is surprising since it's based on one of one Tennessee Williams' lesser plays. A terrific cast, strong script & excellent production values help...though I think the opening titles music is a bit too bombastic & cherry for such a tragic tale. THANKS for your comment!
Thank you so much for posting. This movie has been in my mind since I was very young but couldn't remember the name or even the actors. Just remember I lived it and it made an impact on me. How wonderful to rediscover it here on utube thanks to your generosity.
this was always one of my fave natalie wood movies, I remember seeing it as very young child and thinking thats my fave actress, and from that moment on she became my favorite actress.
im 12 and Natalie Wood is my favorite actress. You could call me a theatre geek, i was watching West Side Story when i was 8 and it became my favorite movie. Ever since then i"ve been REALLY into Natalie Wood and Audrey Hepburn movies. I guess you could say, im, OBSESSED!!! <3
AWE WELL YOU HAVE GOOD TASTE IN ACTRESS, ITS KINDA FUNNY MADE ME SMILE WHEN YOU WROTE WHAT YOU DID, CAUSE i WAS LIKE 10 OR SOMETHING MY MOM WAS WATCHING THIS AND I WAS LIKE "MOMMY WHEN I GROW UP i WANNA BE AS BEAUTIFUL AS THAT ACTRESS (SPEAKING OF COURSE OF nATALIE wood)
thanks. god, natalie was the purtiest person alive :) i "natalie wood-ifyied" my binder. there are pictures of her all over the front. i think im gonna "audrey hepburn-ify" the other side. haha. noby (excpet my friends in my theatre group) have even HEARD of them, they're all in love with justin bieber. and im in LOVE with natalie :) haha
I first saw this movie as a child, and it made me cry. I remember the ending now, and why it made me sad. But great movie and I thank you for posting it. I really like Mary Badham.
Thanks for your comment! It's a shame she left acting at such a young age. She was such a gifted performer. How wonderful to know that she's grown up to be such a sweet, friendly and down to earth person! Your post has MADE my day & my week! :-)
@JubalCalif Thanks! :) Our town has a "Big Read" program and every year they celebrate a classic book in all the schools. This particular year they had chosen "To Kill a Mockingbird." Mary was invited and came to our library for a presentation. I didn't have two nickels to rub together and couldn't afford to purchase an autographed photo. She not only gave me an autograph on a card I had, but also posed WITH me for a photo. It was the highlight of that year for me!
What a coincidence. Mary came to our city too out here in Calif when our local library had their "Big Read" salute to "To Kill A Mockingbird". I wanted to attend & meet her but wasn't able to go. Drat the luck! I'm delighted to know that you got to meet her! How heartwarming to know that even though you couldn't afford to buy one of her signed photos, she autographed a card for you & posed for a photo with you! She sounds absolutely wonderful! Good for you!!! :-)
Wow Scout (Wilie) can sing... she's lovely. The movie is great, but what a tragic ending. I blame it all on that mother, now Scout is all alone, how will she survive? I wished her father came back to take her or Owen adopted her as a sister after all they were friends.
@toby043 I met Mary Badham about a year or so ago and she is a VERY nice person. Unlike other actresses, she treats everyone like they're a friend. She's just as friendly and a real down-home person. She's not the imperfect perfectionist, snobbish and condescending personality like most actors/actresses are these days.

I got to meet Mary Badham last year. She's a very, very nice person! She's not one of these snobbish actresses, but "folks" like everyone else.
