Their cat started to meow and howl until they got the message that something was wrong and they were able to save their baby thanks to the cat. My calico cat had 3 beautiful kittens, and they were just a joy to be around. But one day, about a week ago, we had to fumigate the house, and what does my dad do? He takes the kittens to an abandoned peanut mill across town and just leaves them. I mean why? They were barely a month old. Their most likely dead now. I get a lump in my throat every time I think of them...

The cats did NOT die because "they were being watched." If that assessment were true there would be dead animals in astronomical numbers. I've kept cats for nearly fifty years now, always spayed girls adopted from rehoming centres. I suddenly realised I've never seen a kitten born, and found your video through a web search. It's such a shame that none of the kittens survived, as mum was obviously trying to do her best with your help. It's not clear from the posts I've read, but did mum survive?

That's a pretty stupid comment to make because even the mother cat was touching the kittens. Also it is quite rare that a cat "dis-owns" her kittens. This is obviously not a feral or fractious cat giving birth here. That sort of thing happens in the wild- and not often enough to state that as if it is the norm.

So sad for her to see her kittens die, what did you do to comfort her (if she lived) ps i read about cats sometimes eating their young my dog ate a few of her young once but looking back on it they seemed to be the weakest ones and she had such a handful I even had to bottle feed a few with special vet milk :)
We need more people like you. You actually inspire me to do this kind of volunteer work. Its really rewarding and the mommy and her babies can be around people who are caring. Sometimes you might lose a few witch is sad but thats life sadly. Keep up your good work.

I remember my father helping a cat of ours "birth" 40 years ago. She went into a room where we kept the washer and dryer, and he put a box for her. When she began to "push" he put his hand so that she could push her paws against his palm. I wathced as she would grunt, and push against his palm. I always thought it was neat that my tough old man could be so gentle with an animal.

When I saw this little one in the placenta for such a long time I was pretty worried because the mother cat didnt do nothing but licking herself, that drove me crazy, i would removed the placenta before, when i've read that kittens are died i felt soo sadd, :(:( i'm so sorry specially for this little one... tomtom :(

I found this cat, Hobbes running around my apartment and she was pregnant I urged my mom to take her in..she finally did and then a couple weeks later she had 5 kittens! They were all healthy except 2 of them had they had the flu but we took care of it. I am sorry to hear that about the mother and her kittens. My kittens all had safe homes, but Hobbes ran away and I just hope SHE is safe

I have been through this with two litters i found in my yard. of 10 kittens, we saved 4. three we have kept. it was a struggle...I can't describe it. I know how tortured they looked, and I know how exactly they were dying, so I can only say - you are very brave. It takes a lot of strength. I would always go through it again for the sake of these helpless beings, but the pain is almost unbearable. They suffer so much.
Ive seen kittens that were just born but they were tinier. They were wild cats but the mommy cat put them in the front yard. (There was three kittens) My sister, and someone who works for my grandma put them in a little pillow basket. Eventually the mommy cat moved away with the kittens. Everytime we looked at the kittens and the mommy cat was there the cat stared at us

I have been through this too. my cat almost died when giving birth and the kittens father abandoned us when they were born. i think that kittens being born is one of the most touching things you can ever experience and you can only REALLY experience it in real life. they are not just cute, bottle feeding kittens is fun, but it should really be done as minimal as possible because the powdered milk doesnt have as many neutrients as breastmilk.
If someone wants their kids to experience the "miracle of life," they should do this, foster a pregnant animal from a local shelter/rescue. The kids see the beauty (and ugliness) and the animal gets a temporary home to give birth in warmth and security. It's win-win!

She helped me the whole time to try save them so I didn't really have to tell her about it. We just talked about how this kind of thing happens and that death is a part of life. She cried and I held her. I cried too. Who wouldn't? Once each of them passed on, we felt sadness but most of all, we felt at peace just because their suffering was over.
I lovd this video. It's sad that all of your kittens died.I also found a stray cat and took her over. About 3 1/2 months later i foound out that she was pregnant. After a while she gave brth to nine kittens, and they all survived! It's nice of you to foster mama cats. It makes you appreciate animals. :)

My friends cat actually did eat her young. Well she ate the head off of one and let the others freeze to death. I'm not sure if she would qualify as a pet cat though, because she lives on a farm and doesn't really stay indoors much.
I'm SO sorry to hear about the loss of this litter. What you're doing though is such a good thing, think of how many animals you've already saved! We rescued a pregnant stray that had babies 6 weeks ago. All together 9 lives were saved, and it is the greatest feeling in the world! Keep up the good work!

Isn't that wonderful, showing your daughter the beauty of birth. Great parents! Perhaps you should also show your daughter the way cats are euthenized. I am not sure where you came up with the idea that I bred the cat just so I could kill the kittens. Again, the cat was a pregnant stray that was dumped at our local No-Kill Shelter. We took her in to foster the kittens until they were old enough to be adopted. Unfortunately, the mother was sick when she gave birth, the kittens caught it within three days. For 5 days, I tube fed them and gave them antibiotics around the clock in order to save their lives. They died OF THE SICKNESS.
and my own pets are spayed and neutered. If anyone deserves any ire, it was this cats prior owner who not only didn't spay her but also dumped her when she became pregnant.

You do not have to be quite while a mama cat is giving birth.. She little! How is she suppose to know how to keep a camera still, most people cant while they are free handling a video recorder/ camera.

The mama was a stray who was already pregnant when she was dumped at the humane society. We took her to care for her until she and the kittens were old enough to be adopted out. The kittens died from an infection that the mom caught during her 24 hour stay at the shelter. Our own pets are spayed and neutered.
i know tht when puppies are born if they're not breathing u hold them in both ur hands and u bend over and then come back up, it's kind a like throwing them, but not letting go. it works, i saw my mom do it after a c-section( she owns a vet clinic and is the doctor) ( i dont know how to spell it)and u can do tht for an hour until they start to breathe, i dont know if you're supposed to do it with kittens, but u probably can

@KittenloverUK The illness the mother had was passed on through her blood. Are you familiar with the way pregnancy works? That's a pretty stupid comment to make because even the mother cat was touching the kittens. Also it is quite rare that a cat "dis-owns" her kittens. This is obviously not a feral or fractious cat giving birth here. That sort of thing happens in the wild- and not often enough to state that as if it is the norm.

oh, what a tragedy for you, but it certainly wasn't for a lack of trying. thank you for being such a wonderful foster mom. I adopted an adult kitty who's been with me almost 10 years now, and I just wish I had room for more!

when you say they died, did the momma die too?? So sad for her to see her kittens die, what did you do to comfort her (if she lived) ps i read about cats sometimes eating their young my dog ate a few of her young once but looking back on it they seemed to be the weakest ones and she had such a handful I even had to bottle feed a few with special vet milk :)

We need more people like you. You actually inspire me to do this kind of volunteer work. Its really rewarding and the mommy and her babies can be around people who are caring. Sometimes you might lose a few witch is sad but thats life sadly. Keep up your good work.

My cat whisker had two black kittens but one of them died because she didn't lick it. Sadly we weren't there so it didn't survive. Nice video though!

its sad they died..it reminded me of when i was walking with my friend today and we found a dead rabbit with like 5 newborn dead babies around it.2 were completly run over and 3 died prob. because the mom was dead..it looked like she was giving birth in the road when she was run over :`( poor baby animals

I remember my father helping a cat of ours "birth" 40 years ago. She went into a room where we kept the washer and dryer, and he put a box for her. When she began to "push" he put his hand so that she could push her paws against his palm. I wathced as she would grunt, and push against his palm. I always thought it was neat that my tough old man could be so gentle with an animal.

When I saw this little one in the placenta for such a long time I was pretty worried because the mother cat didnt do nothing but licking herself, that drove me crazy, i would removed the placenta before, when i've read that kittens are died i felt soo sadd, :(:( i'm so sorry specially for this little one... tomtom :(

I found this cat, Hobbes running around my apartment and she was pregnant I urged my mom to take her in..she finally did and then a couple weeks later she had 5 kittens! They were all healthy except 2 of them had they had the flu but we took care of it. I am sorry to hear that about the mother and her kittens. My kittens all had safe homes, but Hobbes ran away and I just hope SHE is safe

My family once fostered a pregnant cat and I got to see one kitten being born. But only one kitten because she gave birth in the morning on a school day.
I'm sorry to hear that these kittens died. One time, my family fostered a litter of kittens and they all died. My sister took it the hardest because she believed she was responisble for one of the kittens death. It was so sad.

I have been through this with two litters i found in my yard. of 10 kittens, we saved 4. three we have kept. it was a struggle...I can't describe it. I know how tortured they looked, and I know how exactly they were dying, so I can only say - you are very brave. It takes a lot of strength. I would always go through it again for the sake of these helpless beings, but the pain is almost unbearable. They suffer so much.

Ive seen kittens that were just born but they were tinier. They were wild cats but the mommy cat put them in the front yard. (There was three kittens) My sister, and someone who works for my grandma put them in a little pillow basket. Eventually the mommy cat moved away with the kittens. Everytime we looked at the kittens and the mommy cat was there the cat stared at us

I have been through this too. my cat almost died when giving birth and the kittens father abandoned us when they were born. i think that kittens being born is one of the most touching things you can ever experience and you can only REALLY experience it in real life. they are not just cute, bottle feeding kittens is fun, but it should really be done as minimal as possible because the powdered milk doesnt have as many neutrients as breastmilk.

If someone wants their kids to experience the "miracle of life," they should do this, foster a pregnant animal from a local shelter/rescue. The kids see the beauty (and ugliness) and the animal gets a temporary home to give birth in warmth and security. It's win-win!
Love how you give your kids straight facts rather than cutesying it up. And they totally understand it, lol

She helped me the whole time to try save them so I didn't really have to tell her about it. We just talked about how this kind of thing happens and that death is a part of life. She cried and I held her. I cried too. Who wouldn't? Once each of them passed on, we felt sadness but most of all, we felt at peace just because their suffering was over.

I lovd this video. It's sad that all of your kittens died.I also found a stray cat and took her over. About 3 1/2 months later i foound out that she was pregnant. After a while she gave brth to nine kittens, and they all survived! It's nice of you to foster mama cats. It makes you appreciate animals. :)

Our cat has just had four kittens within the last half hour and I was looking around the net for a bit of advice. Thanks for the old wives' tale on touching them because she had them in the most awkward place and we weren't sure if we could move them.

My friends cat actually did eat her young. Well she ate the head off of one and let the others freeze to death. I'm not sure if she would qualify as a pet cat though, because she lives on a farm and doesn't really stay indoors much.

I'm SO sorry to hear about the loss of this litter. What you're doing though is such a good thing, think of how many animals you've already saved! We rescued a pregnant stray that had babies 6 weeks ago. All together 9 lives were saved, and it is the greatest feeling in the world! Keep up the good work!

Aww, it's terrible that the kittens died, but that's the way life is sometimes. =( I'm just really glad your kids were there at the moment of birth. Kids are really sheltered these days. From letting them help you and stay with you and talking to them about a birthing cat - I think you're doing a good job. Thank you for fostering these animals.

I am in tears! God bless you for helping cats! We have fostered mother cats before, & helped them with birthings. What a joy it is. Also, nothing more sad than having to witness kittens passing on. However, you gave them a chance they otherwise would not have had. Sharing this experience with your children is wonderful. As your notes are so informative, I hope everyone takes time to read them.

I am not sure where you came up with the idea that I bred the cat just so I could kill the kittens. Again, the cat was a pregnant stray that was dumped at our local No-Kill Shelter. We took her in to foster the kittens until they were old enough to be adopted. Unfortunately, the mother was sick when she gave birth, the kittens caught it within three days. For 5 days, I tube fed them and gave them antibiotics around the clock in order to save their lives. They died OF THE SICKNESS.

I am sorry to hear the kittens died! I foster mama cats too and it is interesting how alot of the mama cats want help. On their terms. You know what I mean? They don't want the baby taken too far it picked up during stimulation. What a great experience for your kid to have! And a great to teach humane treatment of animals.

You do not have to be quite while a mama cat is giving birth.. She little! How is she suppose to know how to keep a camera still, most people cant while they are free handling a video recorder/ camera.

I am crying thats so sad. When the kittens are about to be born, you should really leave all that stuff to the vet. You should have spayed her if she had that problem. The mama was a stray who was already pregnant when she was dumped at the humane society. We took her to care for her until she and the kittens were old enough to be adopted out. The kittens died from an infection that the mom caught during her 24 hour stay at the shelter. Our own pets are spayed and neutered.

i know tht when puppies are born if they're not breathing u hold them in both ur hands and u bend over and then come back up, it's kind a like throwing them, but not letting go. it works, i saw my mom do it after a c-section( she owns a vet clinic and is the doctor) ( i dont know how to spell it)and u can do tht for an hour until they start to breathe, i dont know if you're supposed to do it with kittens, but u probably can
