In terms of raw damage, yes it can be very insane. But to be honest I prefer the normal mode better as it provides more versatility in moves and maneuverability since doggies don't get thrusters.
However it's fun to try doing a doggie battle without touching the ground. It is possible, you just have to time your moves right. Though against a very hard AI they'll block you most of the time.

nice! the 2nd round is what i'm talking about... but the dogfight can be even more insane, from what i've seen :)
