  • i would like information about careers opportunities in korea since im traveling soon 2 hopefully work as an english teacher in sk, so i'd appreciate information on schools requirements, can i get a fixed position as a regular or do the only hire temporal?, what is the teachers salary in korea?, do i have 2 speak korean?, can i hit my students?, do i have 2 have the tefl qualification?, does the school pays for my housing?, please replies

  • Korea sucks ass

  • Teaching in Japan is better but with less money. Teaching in RSK is a nightmare if you choose to work in a Hogwon. Public schools are okay especially if there are other waygooks there with you. If you are alone at a hogwon there is a high probability that you will end up hating Korea and Koreans in general. The only good thing is the money and the paid for living apartment but don't be fooled some of these apartments would not be fit for living in my country (Aotearoa). Go for the cash then gtfo

  • I was in Korea maybe 15 days my whole life and it sucked balls this is pretty bad since I am half Koren. I would rather go to Japan its much better.

  • @dinamo4889

why, did the sweat shop rip you off at hagwon or were you a half breed loitering in itaewon for a job. subhuman?

  • @jisaw80 nope neither. I am not from SE Asia. I am a European. And yes I was there for my job protecting Korea from the other Korea.

  • @dinamo4889

what do you mean? Half breed of U.S army is a european protecting who from who? what? did your dad hit your head with an hammer? why are you like that?

  • @jisaw80 I am just stating factual sentiments I felt while in Korea it sucked go fuck yourself or eat some kimchee.

  • looooove korea!

  • "The most advanced IT country in the world!"

How's that?.... I think this one is a bit of a joke.

  • its not just that easy! if your going to teach and live in korea you need at least abit of korean to get by in daily life and for company to talk to others!

  • @patsybob

of course you do idiot. you need to learn the indegenous language in any country. you only need little korean to live, so feel grateful.

  • Also, ify you are a private person, it is not the place to go. I have literally been followed into the woods by packs of people, running after me, yelling and screaming. I have been told to leave public parks because I was a nasty American. I am not American by the way, but if you are white...to them, you are American. They drink too much, urinate in public, puke wherever they might be, think nothing of sexual assult on women.

  • I lived and worked in Korea. If your objective is strictly money, it is a good place to go. If you are looking for a quality lifestyle---DON"T. Korea is great for the first year. It is new and exciting but after that it becomes mentally and physically draining. Once you get over the newness it just becomes the most annoying place on earth. Korean people are NOT foreigner friendly, teaching kids is a nightmare and adults are just plain annoying. There are other options- Japan, Taiwan for example.

  • 2-3 grand a month my ass. You forgot to mention the part where Mr. Happy Hagwon owner screws you out of your monthly pay, forces you to work unpaid overtime, refuses to fix the leak in your apartment, and fires you in your 11th month to get out of paying your severance and flight home. And 14 days vacation is a good laugh too. Try 10 if you're REALLY lucky. Free flight? Your boss will likely hold it out of your salary for the first three months to make sure you're not a flight risk.

  • @joshdurey Oh yes....I forgot to mention all of the above! You are absolutely right. You might get lucky and find a school in which you wont get screwed but you would have to do a little bit of sucking up to make sure that doesnt happen. I have seen this sort of stuff time and time again, and worse!!!

  • @joshdurey

I told you idiot to get a certification for ELT specific and work at legitimate public institutions. OF Course Hagwon wil rip the shit out of employers. it's a sweatshop and you are a usless employer without education diplma.

  • This looks like a preproduction of a commercial.

  • Hey I'm spanish and speak both english and spanish fluently. I have an American(ie USA) passport. Black hair, tan skin, and Puerto Rican descent. Do you think I can get hired?

  • USA, UK, Canada

It got a lot of issues from the male instructors.

Alcohol, drug imports, to female sexual

  • English teachers in Korea are not discriminated against blacks.

The problem the United States and Great Britain, Canada, Men's English teacher is a problem.

Male teachers have too many problems common rape drug.

Alternatively, women tend to prefer English teacher.

  • @kikijang What? I'm Haitian-American and I teach English in Jeju. How the hell can you generalize like that. What facts do you have? Many of us have wives before we even come to Korea. That's like maintaining a sterotype for Korean men that come to the US. Foreighners (non-Chinese and Japanese) make up less than 1% of the population, any dumb thing one teacher does should not be represented to all of the teachers. Don't use us as an excuse for crimes.

  • Get out criminal teacher.

    do you love children?

    come on, koreans don't like

    paedophile

  • there is alot of dicrimination in korea! i don't wanna go there

  • Yes. Korean people have a lot of diScrimination... We care a lot about your effort and attire you have. especially sincerity

  • I would like to say. Koreans do tons of hate,,, and believe in the stereotypes.. iam sorry about that... but,. we are not that sincere. we just believe what movies have shown.

  • there's always discrimination everywhere. everyone doesn't discriminates don't believe in stereotypes. If you take your job seriously they'll respect you, if you don't, they'll think your a joke.(which goes with everywhere you go) And nobody really cares if you want to go or not. That means more opportunities for other people to go.

  • you can get everything in korea

if you are just a normal white guy who using english as mothertongue.

    money, pussy, everything.

what a nice country to you.

  • where do you think we live in, the cavemen era. Sorry but your looking at one of the most advanced countries. Don't be jealous of Korea.

  • @xXDavitchiXx Advanced??????? What??????? Where a person of a different race and culture cant walk down the street without being yelled at??? Where a foreigner is told they cannot sit quietly in a park because they are a different color? That is advanced? Where people beat and torture dogs for meat????? Advanced? Sounds pretty primal to me.

  • @vicnbud

what the fuck you talking about? go to america and see all these niggers doing drugs shooting killing people. aliens around me never suffered that way. you're just intimidated. I'm sure more people were nice to you. torture dogs for meat..? haha..ignorant bastard, ask yourself whether you had any intentions of learning our culture. one of my nigger boy was fine, even had a korean girlfriend. you wasted your time.

  • @jisaw80 Seriously, Korea sucks

  • The song seems inappropriate for this video. xD It's like a bondage song or something.

  • They told me I could get hired because I was Black. They said I had the qulifications and everything was nice til I showed them my picture. I'm just looking for a school that will not be racist about hiring me.

  • Wow what a job? You can have fun and save your big money while you stay in Korea ... But the best part is that you can meet the super race people who should deserve everyone's respect and love...

  • I don't understand the degree thing - why four years? I've taken numerous courses and am a certified English teacher, and yet I can't get a job because I don't have a four year degree? I know people who have Math degree's and yet they've been accepted to teach in Korea - I don't understand it.

  • Because a degree shows a person is willing to go for the long haul. And I have a degree but imagin not getting hired because of the color of your skin? One person I was dealing with told me they only wanted White skin teacher.

  • Next thing we know they will be handing out complementary blow jobs for anyone willing to teach them English.

  • any one wanting and passionate about teaching English in Korea - in a reputable institute - should contact me and I can put you in direct contact with the institute's HR guy. I used to work there and keep in contact with the HR

  • you say 4 year degree but most uk degrees are 3 year , like the bachelor of science i just earned only took me 3 years will that still be fine?

  • ofcourse!

  • I'm hearing so many negative things about teaching in Korea...I'm kind of worried.

  • Is it really illegal to tutor if you are already teaching ESL in a school in Korea? Is there any way to do it legally?

  • Some Private schools do! But Public schools don't do like that!

  • I heard that you have to be "white" to teach ESL in Korea!!!

I'm a US citizen who was born and raised in the US and was rejected because of my ethnicity (non-white)....True story!!!!!!!!!

  • Really? What race are you? I would like to know more about your experience.

  • Why are you so quick to pull the race card?

Do you have a bachelors degree from a 4 year university in America?

How do you know they maybe just denied you because you didnt have the credentials?

    Some people are so dumb.

  • Because the recruiter specifically told me that it would be more difficult for me to get a teaching job not being white.

I have a 4 year degree from a University of California (IN THE US).......I'm a US citizen (born and raised)....Speak English only......Never been arrested....No drugs...ect!

Obviously I have the credentials.....SO YOU'RE THE ONE WHO'S DUMB!!! You might want to watch what you say before you put your foot in your mouth and start making false assesments about others!!!!

  • Dude. Look up some video blogs of people who have taught in Korea. You will notice that some of them are NOT white, for christ sakes there are black people that made video blogs of teaching in Korea.

What the hell does that tell you?

Stop assuming an entire country is racist just because you were to stupid to get hired.

  • Hey I never said the whole country was racist. I said there were a couple instances where I was rejected being non-white. Its a reality.

Of course not all schools are like that.

  • Don't get mad, I'm Black and it has happened to me. Alot of people can't relate. I want to fight this prejudice. Our president is Black so why do they feel it's ok to be racist far as hiring as teacher goes?

  • Hey

I'm NOT Black!!!! I'm actually Southeast Asian....Yeah I sent my picture too and had the same experience that you did.

It's funny because I've been in the Philippines for about a month and seen Korean restaurants that have signs in front saying "No Filpinos Allowed"....Go figure!

  • ha who is this kid, what a clown.

  • I'm Korean, but we do not differentiate between a black English teacher.

Rather, the problem is that many white teachers

  • Look at all the people with racist experiences in Korea....Dumbass!

  • Shut your ass up!

YEAH...Thats why all those Koreans go to the Philippines to study English....

Why??? Cause they were too fucking cheap to afford a third rate teacher. So they go to a 3rd world country and act racist towards the people in the Philippines. Its not even their country and they are racist towards the locals. Bunch of fuckin' retards!!! So yeah...Koreans who leave Korea are THIRD RATE PEOPLE (Korea Rejects) studying English in a THIRD WORLD COUNTRY.....Go Figure!!!

  • Most Koreans go to America or Canada. The minority figures of Koreans in Phillipines are attempting to avoid their military duties and find a decent job as a foreigner.

  • Not really true...I've seen tons of Koreans here to study English. There are lots of English schools catered to Koreans. And its a lot cheaper to get 1 on 1 instruction.

I find it hard to believe that Koreans would find a decent job in the Philippines. Most people want out of the Philippines because of lack of work. The only reason Koreans go there is the cheap cost of living and the luxuries they can't afford in Korea. Just what I've seen in my time in the Philippines.

  • You're right.

  • ummm...I want to do this when I'm older because right now I'm not even in college yet...is there a way that I could tutor some kids individually? I need the money for college and I love Korea...And I have a job right now where I tutor kids in math and reading...but... Should I wait until I graduate from college to try to tutor in Korea?

  • Hmm well,it's illegal...

  • yup, unfortunately it's illegal to get paid to tutor separately from a school or agency in korea. people still do it, but you probably shouldn't, lol. i was going to do it once while visiting relatives a couple summers ago, but opted not to... i don't wanna get in trouble with the law! (i'm half korean, btw)

  • By University degree you mean bachelors degree correct?

Also, do you think this will still be offered 4 years from now? Because I am going to be starting college in the fall to get my bachelors degree and I have been wanting to teach in Korea for years. I know fluent English and I am currently learning Korean (although I know I don't need to). Also, can I stay longer then a year? I really would like to just live in Korea forever and teach English as long as possible.

    감사합니다!

  • Yes, it's a 4 year degree. If you have 2 year dipolma, you can also teach in Korea, but the salary is lower

  • so are they only looking for Caucasians (aka whites)? i've heard having a canadian pasport and a university degree is no good if i dont have blond hair : )

  • Oh well, some private institutes prefer to hire Caucasians, but not all schools!! Much more schools don't matter it!!

  • thanks for responding. so how do i find the more open-minded schools? does it have to be through teach-abroad agencies? do i have to have the certificate (tesol) i need to have to get that kind of job?

  • I've heard that too about private schools. But are "Public Schools" willing to hire someone who is not caucasian?

  • Sure! They don't discriminate...

  • How is the cost of living and the ability to save money teaching in Korea these days? I've heard since the Korean Won has gone down you really can't save much anymore. I think 2 million Won is only $1400 now.

With the cost of living is it still possible to save $700-1000 a month if teaching in Seoul????

  • Now Korea won is not good, but it will get better soon. Even Korean won is low, but it does not effect on living cost in Korea.

Living cost for a month in Korea is around KRW 500,000~700,000? Well it depends on the life style.

  • How does the free plane ticket thing work?

  • Oneway to Korea is reimbursed after arrival at Korea within 7 days. The flight ticket to your home is provided by schools after the completion of 1 year contract.

  • Is there a limit to the cost of the ticket. For example if you were to take a job in Korea but you were flying from Singapore at the time. Would you be reimbursed for a 1st class ticket or only economy?

  • If you have an Australian passport can you teach in Korea?

  • If you educated in AU from Secondary, yes! you can teach English in Korea!!

  • The won is bad now but you can live very cheaply here! If you stay over a year the won will recover! You get 21 days holidays in seoul now too!

  • Korea seems to be the most efficient country when people from English speaking countries want to make money easily

  • I hear that you cannot save money in Korea anymore. The Korean Won is losing value fast and Americans are leaving Korea because of the bad exchange rate.

  • Even the won is bad, but it doesn't effect on living in Korea. There might be not good to wire money to US. Save it and wire it late~

  • to peter

go to jap then y'll be welcomed and give to japs your ass

  • you mean will be changed...and even lots...okay...hopefully..

  • i would disagree with that

  • I like that joke

  • i live in hawaii and 90% of them have nasty esl talk.

  • Hopefully, the law will be change soon, but I am not sure, I don't know why Filipinos can't get E2visa...Event lots of Korean go to Philippines to learn English.

  • Is the pay not as good for associates degree holders? (2 year degree). And can you get a job in Seoul with a 2 year degree?

  • The pay scale is lower, but you can teach English Gyeoggi Province only where is closed to Seoul! Housing and Flight Tickets are provided also! ( The course is called Internship Program in Gyeonggido)

  • @Dethdik yes possible but u know its not ez bcu a lot of ppl who wanna teach students in korea. also they had got a 4 year degree not at all , so u can try but must be in 6 country.

  • Where do I need to contact with regard to Teaching in Korea?

  • I am not a native speaker, but I can speak English very well, is there any jobs for me?

I would like to take a teaching job in Korea, how can I find it?

  • Sorry to tell you this, Korean government issues E2 Visa ( English teaching visa ) to English native speakers from the USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, or South Africa.. Why don't you try another country?

  • I have a citizen ship in Canada, and I have been living here for 15 years. In my case, can I apply for the job?

  • If you educated from Seconday in Canada, you are qulified to teach English in Korea!

  • The salary doesn't look high, how can teachers save money? I can't get it!

  • But the lower taxes and living cost make you earn and save money. Let's say if you get $2000 a month for your salary, you will get around $1830. And also a school provide you with FREE furnished housing.

  • Is there any lesson plans in a school for teachers to use and learn how to teach English well?

  • There are different lesson plans in schools. No worries!

  • Do I need to have teaching experiences to teach English in Korea?

  • Nope, you don't need to have teaching experiences. If you are an English native speaker haivng university degree in any field, you can teach English in Korea. Nowadays, Korean government hires native speakers who have 2 years college diploma.

  • Salary in Korea is getting higher!

  • How much money do I get for my salary? I have no teaching experience. I need to save money a lot. Is there any way to earn money more?

  • If you are looking for a teaching job in Korea, taking a public school job is best in Korea!

  • WorknPlay Recruiting set me up with a great job with one of the most reputable schools in the city where I am living. My bosses are so nice and helpful and my apartment is perfect--clean, modern, and in a neighborhood with plenty of restaurants, bars and things to do.

  • I am going to Korea soon as an English teacher. I am so excited!!

  • Where are you going to teach?

  • No male and animals allowed.
