  • awesome!! whatever happens after the lights r switched on again but the measure taken is very inspiring..atleast australia cares for the earth...we all should take steps to reduce the use of electicity in our daily lives...this will help us to survive or global warming may kill us all!!

  • WOW!!! Google has a black version called: clean black [dot] com. It saves energy as it uses a black background. Similar initiative as Earth Hour!

  • I did it this year (2008)

    DID YOU?

  • The songs are from the Blood Diamond soundtrack.

  • starting to sound like a cult at 1:30

  • w8, this was in 2007

  • Its also in 2008. Turn off your lights at 8:00 on March 29th (Tonight) and turn them back on at 9, and you can say you participated in Earth Hour.

  • the person who came up with this is a smart person

  • ok but what about when everyone turned the lights back on, the power draw would be immense, hence wasting more energy than was saved.

    Earth day = Fail

  • finally someone with some sense!!! Glad to see that there are still some people left in this world with real intelligence rather than just being led around like sheep by people with huge political agendas.

  • The point isn't to save energy.

its to like.. show us how many people really care and that if we actually did try and work together.. we could do something.

  • we r not alone

  • what the name of the song at the begining

  • that great

  • thats awesome. im doing that

  • me too

  • cool..

  • MERCI MERCI!!! Finalement, un sense d'èspoire pour le monde. Peut-être les choses v'ont changer pour le mieux... éventuellement... on èspere :) Solidaritée Mondiale? J'èspêre beaucoup.

  • that was amazing!! if everybody do some like that, at least 30 minutes every month, we should be more paceful with our "house", the unique

  • I would be happy right now if everyone across the globe would just participate for one hour this year! I'm hoping for lots of people to embrace this event so we can move this agenda to the forefront of converstation.

  • good work,great message!

  • that was so inspiring and inspiration is what we need. let us all now take some action!

  • thankyou YARIM for sending this to me.

    love you MUJUK MUJUK

  • it's a start

  • if anyone has seen Zeitgeist...it is dangerous to tell people that global warming costs more than war....they would love to hear that...

I will do all I can to help...all.

Thank you Australia, very much :-)

someone send this to Mayor Bloomberg of New York City!

  • Great EARTH HOUR video! For more environmental and alternative videos please come visit us at SCOD Green House Channel, here on YOUTUBE!

  • You're ahead of many of us Bro but it's just a matter of time that our fragile ecosystem with her finite resources becomes the most important priority for everyone.

  • Ah ParaE! Sometimes I get very sad, angry, and depressed about my perception of nature as fragile, and ecosystems are I suppose, but then something shows me how immortal Nature is and i can laugh again for awhile... - Drogo

  • I LOVE THIS!

i wish it was done in brissy too

  • Get this video to as many people as you can.

  • It truly is a brilliant piece of advertising. Call me a cynic though, but wasn't this whole event planned as a means of providing a major publicity boost to their home town?

  • Um, thank you for stating the obvious georgemelb. And you know what, it will work - just wait until March next year when other truly GLOBAL cities are all following SYDNEY's example. Jealous?

  • True this idea may have been concieved by the city of Sydney, or the advertising agency who produced it (Leo Burnet, Sydney) to promote their city, but even so, props to Sydney. Wouldn't you rather visit a city that understands the problem of global warming? Or even a city that bought on to an idea that makes a difference? One thing is for sure, if this is a campaign to boost interest in Sydney, they sure as hell didn't take the traditional "Visit Sydney" rout.

  • Certainly would be an interesting way to encourage polluting air travel. But really, it is more about image than the tourist dollar. The aim is to show Sydney as a progressive, enlightened city, when in reality it is rather a conservative and intolerant place, obsessed with its own image and being seen as a 'global' city. I don't mean to be so harsh, it's still a great city by any standards. But it's a shame that such a worthy environmental cause had to be mixed so heavily with civic propaganda.

  • Haha George "Melb" you are just jealous that Sydney is seen as Australia's GLOBAL CITY and thoe whole world has never even hear of bleak little Melbourne. Sydney is hosting the APEC meeting right now - the most important Meeting ever held in Australia. I hope they come up with something on climate change to replace Kyoto- and it will be called the Sydney Agreement of course!

  • Looks like you got your wish then, an agreement that says nothing but at least it's named after Sydney. Moving right along...

  • You know what?

    Save it to your favorites-

maybe then more people will see it and change somethings in their lifes...

    Save it to your favorites!

  • I'm in advertising. This was done by an advertising agency. It is probably the best advertising I've ever seen

  • So how did you find out about this video?!

  • This is an amazing idea.
