  • turtles can hurt farm animals you f'ing moron ... stfu... turtleman is a national hero and a good 'ol boy ... stick to your manufactured personality and the zoo... fool!

  • Nice do you kiss your mother with that mouth. Facts are facts . Turtles do not attack cattle or horses. A fool is only a fool when faced with facts can only respond with name calling. I was born in Kentucky and proud of it. But that doesn't mean we should not teach our children the truth about nature. Zoo has been in Kentucky 20 years and I have been working with reptiles for a living for over 34 years.

  • Turtle can not hurt farm animals. Your information is far from fact.

  • so if it bites the cow that wont hurt it?

  • Big question is how would it bite a cow? Snapping turtle forage in the bottom of ponds feeding in crayfish and fish. Sometimes ducks or other small animals. Turtles do not look at cows or horses as food. Having been bitten by alligator snapping turtles that would swallow the snappers he catches I will say it hurts but does not cause serious damage that can not be fixed on a human and cows have tougher skin.

  • in the other video ive seen about this guy it was talking about how they venture out and bite cattle and livestock. obviously they are causing some type of nuisance or farmers wouldnt be hiring people to have them moved.

  • He has no clue about the real habits of these turtles. They don't attack livestock(cattle and horses} They will sometimes take ducks so farmers don't want them in their pond. Problem is that if you remove them more will come to the pond. Only way to totally get rid of snapping turtles is not to have a pond.

  • and how is it that you know all this? im gonna go with the video that said that they can be a nuisance, and assume that they must be causing some amount of trouble if farmers are hiring him to move them.

how and why youve come to this position im unclear of.

  • I have been working with reptiles / turtles for over 40 years. I am the consultant for Kentucky Fish and Wildlife on venomous snakes. My wife has a masters degree in biology and has worked with snapping turtle research. Also we are one of the few places in Kentucky legally allowed to maintain alligator snapping turtle. I am the director of the Kentucky Reptile Zoo google it for more information. Believe the video or believe the facts.

  • well why dont you show me some of the facts instead of just claiming to have them? is there any reputable website that you can show me that proves that snapping turtles cause absolutely no nuisance at all whatsoever on farms?

and answer me this, why do farmers hire him to move them? why?please, tell me. you claim to have all this knowledge and background in the field, so why do they hire him to move them if they cause absolutely no disturbances?

  • I doubt that any website will 'prove' that snappers don't hurt livestock, because most biologists would laugh at you if you suggested that to them. I mentioned below that people want them removed because they think they eat fish or possibly game birds- which they do sometimes. What possible reason would a turtle have to bite a cow? Even if it did bite a cow, it would not be a big deal- cows are not soft delicate animals.

  • apparently (according to the herald leader video) they steal apples, bite horse, and clutch cow udders. obviously this has happened. just because you dont have an explanation for it, doesnt mean a thing.

ill go with the newspaper over the guy who claims that it is so ridiculous that there isnt any proof for it.

the newspaper reports that those are the reasons why, which they likely got from the farmers who hired him, and the turtle man himself, from actual experience.

  • Yes newspapers are never wrong. How would a bottom dwelling animal steal apples or reach a cows uppers. First read Dr Pritchards book on turtles and their behavior. Just google his name and turtles. I can not educate you because you don't want to be educated. I have an explanation turtle boy told the media that turtles do these behaviors and they do not. Why are my facts so ridiculous? I only have done this for an living fro 40 plus years .

  • and nice try by citing a book youve never read and if you have dont know if it mentions any of this. i know a bluff when i see one.

ive already found a link that confirms my point of view, type "snapping turtles biting livestock" on google, first link. it talks about it biting pets on land. this could easily happen with livestock.

and seriously, why would they hire him then? these turtles only eat little baby fish, not the type anybody would fish for in a farm pond and no way its eating a bird

  • Only bothering to write back to you because others may see this. First, did you try googling Pritchard turtles? He's a world renowned expert on turtles and I happen to own his book. Second, I googled that and didn't get anything about them biting pets- but I'm sure they would bite a dog if it was nosing at their face. But a cow is not a dog.

You are right that they don't eat the same fish that people fish for- but most people believe they do. Second, I've seen them eat ducklings in person.

  • when you good it the page will be titled "how to get rid of nuisance wildlife", then scoll down to snapping turtle.

and honestly, you are telling me that they lied here. you are saying that they have completely lied about the nature of these animals? for what purpose exactly? obviously the farmers have had trouble with them doing these things, and have reported this. come on, it it'll bite a dog, then it'll bite a cow or horse.

so really, what is the motive to lie about this? come on now buddy
