First of all, our knowledge of plate tectonics rules out the possibility of sunken mystery continents. But there's a far more convincing reason than even this: That is, Atlantis was something that Plato completely pulled out of his ass just so Socrates could have something to talk about, and he specifically mentions in his writing that Atlantis is a completely hypothetical city.

Atlantians traded regularly with Africa, particularly Egypt, as well as India and a few other countries. It's marked down in their historic records, hence everyone looking for it for so long. Probably sank during that huge tsunami that almost wiped out China hundreds of years ago. Their streets were carved into the ground and lined with stone and gold. That wouldn't vanish just because of some Earthquake and flooding. Buildings falling? Yes. Streets vanishing? No. lol
