  • Cantonese is easier to learn.

  • hi! I like your videos .

    PLease write me : c.l85@hotmail.com

  • It's a little like purring, isn't it?

  • Hello. Do you have any techniques or tips for hearing the tones when someone is speaking? I'm having a really hard time with that.

  • I think the 4th & 5th tones sound so close when you say them.

  • love your video

  • Thanks for the lesson on Chinese, now here is one on English -- it's pronunciation not pronounciation.

  • Thank you, Sophie!! Good little intro to Mandarin tones, I learned something new! Can't wait to watch your other videos.

  • What does she say at 1:50 ?

  • MAAA!! MA MAAAA MA? MAAAAM MA... MAA?!?!?!?! MAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

    :D

  • damn, she's hot lol

  • 我會說一點中文!!! 寫寫!! ;)

  • What does the "ni ma ta" mean? (The scolding part) I tried to use Google translate but I don't know which characters to use

  • I cannot really hear any difference between the 4th and the 5th apart from the hand movement

  • @rafalbielec - I've had problems understanding the 4th tone as well. If you listen, there is more "energy" into it, and although the chinese tones do not in any way have the same emotional meaning that tones have in english, the 4th tone can be compared to an expression of excitement, like "Ohhh!", and if you voice it, you will hear that it actually does 'fall' in tone (or 'pitch').

  • this reminds me of the movie Rango.....

    animation movie

  • @memo9912007 - that is because the lead female role in that move is an example of the same/ a simmilar female archetype that this woman/ girl is demonstrating as a 'personality identity.' -its like an expression of 'helplessness' that presents itself as 'hard to get'; very attractive to specific expressions of male ego.

  • i loved it! thanks! i really want to learn manderan

  • Love the language :)

  • i don't think this video will be quite right when she explain the 5th sound. Chinese people always use 4 of them and how r u, in Chinese way will use the 1th sound.

  • @hjshzq do you have a lisp? there is no such thing as 1th.... it's 1st.

  • Chinese is a very weird funny language BUT as a business student I'm sort of required to learn this fucking language.

  • @rootiest who cares what u r learning, u r just a tiny little guy in the world. WHO CARE!

  • @mertopins well obviously u care enough to take the time to reply to my shit you fuckhead!

  • dude, that is one, fucking difficult language to learn. holy shit

  • Good job!!

  • There is a university in the United Kingdom called the University of Dundee. It's in Scotland. I would very strongly urge Chinese students who're thinking of coming to the UK to undertake undergrad or postgraduate studies to NOT enrol at the University of Dundee. Many Chinese students at this university have been racially abused (either verbally, and in some cases physically.) Some lecturers at this university are very racist towards Chinese students and the city of Dundee is also VERY racist.

  • @hujintao3 it's even bad if you're English!

  • Ahh I've beenw odnering if it mattered if yu held it out or mad eht ehigher sounds and stuff wether or not it made any difference to the meaning of the word/phrase. Thank you!

  • mâ = i have a numb leg?? hahah too short to be true

  • she is a very attractive young lady, nice lesson also

  • Tones are SOOOO important!

    Thank you for sharing!

  • Thanks. The tones are the part I'm having trouble with. The characters and pinyin spellings seem pretty easy by comparison. This month I've learned to read about 350 characters (on the memrise website, if anyone wants to have a look), and at same time working through rosetta stone but I still can't do the tones properly.

I'll listen to this a few times every day and see if that helps.

  • ma \ - maa V - ma | - ma/ - ma!

  • I'm in 7th grade and learning all of this but she never told us what it actually meant. So Shia Shia! :]

  • I remember the first time I herd that the Chinese had 4 a's I was like WTF how is that even possible. Lol I want to lern it so bad, or Korean..

  • Thank you. That was very helpful. I'm just beginning to learn Mandarin. And you are adorable.

  • ma

  • MA!!!

  • Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • @phaess fuck you!

  • Damn ma you're so smart, your english is perfect and your chinese is hot too ! Please tell us you're a teacher somewhere.

  • Would you like to work for CIA to spy on Chinese spies spying in the US, charming girl? lol

  • nose pero te re entro loco! we

  • it's bad enough learning pronunciations but diffrent tones as well? what about dialects? grr!

  • ni pigu buhao! thats chinese for---- your butt is no good! LOL!!!

  • I've been studying Mandarin for a while and watching Hero with Jet Li. Whenever the King of Qin talks about himself, instead of saying 'wo' he says something like 'guo ren' instead, i.e. 'guo ren ming bai le' for 'I now understand'. I cant seem to find what he is actually saying, anyone know?

  • @muddwell That is Gua ren. The chinese king calls himself 'Gua ren' instead of 'wo'. It's a special word in ancient china.

  • @kyliewongDooppi hey that's awesome. thanks for the reply.

  • chinese is like singng

  • nmmmm babty

  • im in love

  • Anyone try Rocket Chinese or Rosetta Stone? How accurate is they? I would like to know if it is a scam or actually good. Thanks. Good video, tones are probably the biggest challenge in Mandarin from what I have read.

  • Thank you for your videos! So far your videos are the best! You make the lessons very simple! XOXO

  • How do you explain that the hooker accedentely fell into my bed at 1 AM?

  • I'll never learn Chinese because I can't really see a difference between all the tones. If you weren't born Chinese, you have to be like a musician (those who can tune instruments), so you can tell the difference of the tones.

  • 谢谢!^.^

  • 非常標準!!!!!!!!!!

  • damn i've been doing mandarin for over 3 years and i still suck at understanding stufff when chinese people talk, my friend has the same problem, i guess it's cuz of all the synonyms

  • Chinese does have 5 tones, but the fifth tone has virtaually been subdued. There are currently only 4 tones that are basically used in Mandarin, so far the only Asian language that I have used 5 tones for is Vietnamese.
