Level crossings should have these as it would stop car drivers jumping the barriers. Would like to see the faces of those idiots that try their luck only to end up wrecking their car rather than spooking the train driver as the bollards would give the trains better protection. These bollards would be a lot safer than barriers I think.
Controlled access, not speeding. Each vehicle that is registered in the system either has a transponder that triggers the bollards, or the driver may operate a manual trigger. The only way to get through without authorisation would be to be so close to the permitted vehicle that you would be touching it, as the bollards have a sensor which prevents then from rising when a vehicle is over them.
ALL THE IDIOTS ON HERE WHO THINK ITS TO STOP SPEEDING ARE SO THICK., THESE ARE SET OP ONLY TO ALLOW BUSES & TAXIS ENTERING AN AREA AND TO STOP UNAUTHORISED VEHICLES ENTERING, THE MOTORISTS WHO HIT THESE ARE IDIOTS TOO WHO DONT SEE THE TRAFFIC SIGNS INFORMING THEM OF THE RESTRICTION,,,
@cyclepod1 How's he/she a troll? They're telling you EXACTLY why they have the rising bollards around the city centre! You sir or madame are either a troll or just very ignorant! As for the thumbs up from the driver he was being nice to some gimp on the side of the road filming bollards! Highlight of your day!
@cyclepod1 think ass cunt. even tho dfraserml in BIG letters said what these are for u still not change the title. look the video at the start it says "Except authorized buses and taxis" the rest of that sign will say "no traffic" or something like it. u daft ass cunt change the title of this video coz if u stand there all day u will notice not one car will pass it and if ur lucky u may find the odd noob trying to get past but woop the car is fuckup dot com
@cyclepod1 Not a troll at all, genius... just because he's talking in all caps doesn't make him a troll. Here's the fact; Automatic Bollards are traffic restriction devices, intended to prevent vehicles from entering a restricted area. They're not different from the automatic-deploying vehicle barriers that we have here in the U.S. that protect sensitive public infrastructure.
The bollards are to stop unauthorised vehicles entering a restricted area - NOT to stop speeding.

Change the description and title, they are wrong and could get a new driver that sees them in trouble. They will think they are just to slow him down, and try to drive over them when they drop for a bus.
Yes but many of you help get yourselves killed with your lack of structured cycling, i.e. weaving. undertaking and over taking and many of you passing different sides AT THE SAME TIME...
It might stop me from mowing down children with my car, but they can't do shit to stop me when I've got a strimmer. Another waste of taxpayers money in Cambridge, let's see how safe you think your city is after I tear off a few revs with my Ryobi RBC-30SES.
Another cycle mentalist, you would ban all cars if you could wouldn't you? Unfortunatly for you the economy relies on cars and the people who drive them, some people forget that.
@cyclepod1 if you didn't ride in front of bigger vehicles it wouldn't be a problem... Besides, the fuel duty and VED motorists pay more than makes up for your loss.
Also you will find that the "motorist" was a taxi driver and he has to slow down so that the bollard has time to drop before he gets to it or he would have smashed his taxi up. These systems are not permitted for traffic calming, only traffic management.
I think would be a good idea. I think it is important that motorists see the signs in plenty of time and there are SLOW signs. Sometimes they go slow at the beginning and speed up and that often smashes up their car.
There are a few around Cambridge, it's mostly buses and taxis only in the centre, you visiting? I have seen the aftermath of a car (German plates) that must have tried to sneak past close behind a bus near Drummer Street, it looked ruined and bleeding oil everywhere.
I visited Cambridge at the weekend. Was surprised how advanced it was. It was strange not to be 'terrorised' by motorists for a change. I bet there is no end of carnage at these points but do motorists every learn? I think they need these at Ashford Shared Space.
Cambridge urban and city area has at max 300k residents. How many reside in London? 8 MILLION. And that's not counting the rest of it.
I welcome urbanised areas, I've visited many places in Europe in which cars have been closed off, Nice, Turin, Amsterdam, Bern etc.. But you have to be realistic. At most you might expect Oxford Street/Regent Street to be pedestrianised... what about the rest? Simply not going to happen ever. Let's get reallistic.
I seen something like this in Bruxelles at the entrances to Courtyards in Premises and Hotels. When I was in Bordeaux I saw a couple ,that was in 05. I think they are Brilliant really frightens those Motorists, teach them if they try to Race them and get their Cars Smashed up.
It is like Mr Bean trying to Duck through Barriers.
I think these rising bollards should be in the driving test as many motorists ruin their cars because they don't how to use them ie go slow. Let me know if Dublin has them. I am surprised they are still there as motorists are bound to moan about them.
You can see them a mile off. It is amazing how some motorists still try and outwit these bollards by speeding. It serves them right if they smash their car into them. Staggered that these nitwits want to sue the council. It is great entertainment to watch too.
I think those bollards are brilliant. Theres a BBC video from a Manchester street showing these and how drivers tried to take a chance. Van driver (without seatbelt) smacked his head and some lady wrote off her car - both tried to sue the council iirc. Didnt get far, LMAO!
Prolly safer to do thumbs up in the bus compared to a car. They're perhaps too heavy to turn like that (could be wrong)
These bollards should be outlawed-they are dangerous and cause unecessary accidents!

@Elliott1108 - There already is one, motorists are already killing doctors who are cyclists on the road too.

@cyclepod1 The moral of the story is don't weave about on the road annoying everyone with your bike and save up for a car then.
Elliott1108 11 months ago
@Elliott1108 - If all cyclists got cars, then traffic queues will get even longer and more car parks would be full. We are helping reduce traffic.
