  • this song is badddd asssss. i used to got to school every fucking day listening to this song

  • Original wins. Not a bad cover though!

  • I discovered this song by accident today when i had Deftones on random.. i actually thought it was Blur when i first heard it (i had them on shuffle too). Ive listened to it on repeat all day since. Ive just discovered its a cover from some obscure band from the early 90's. I just love music!

  • @padshardbank

Jawbox were not obscure. Not mainstream yes but obscure, definitely not.

  • I'm going to have to agree and disagree I think a cover should be different and you should make it your own like deftones cover of the smiths please please please let me get what I want is righteous but I still prefer this version over jawbox's

  • This is sick but I like the original more.

  • what a great song!

  • DREAM.3 Light Weight Grandprix 2008 2nd Round, nick diaz came out to root by the deftones. that be thy connection.

  • um if you like this version more you might just like the way deftones sound more than jawbox. this cover is note for note, down to the guitar solo even

  • yea tits

  • orgasm

  • @pauloskyreach I prefer this version.

  • Nice, but Jawbox > Deftones .... by far

  • this is just a lot better than the original

  • @TheMusicOfWhy Uh, no way

  • @proxist

    nicely said.

  • The beginning riff of this song is just classic.

  • Comment removed

  • and to answer the most poplar question here, (yes) this song (sexual in its nature) is about "going down on a chick." But what you must realize is that all the songs from the 90's that were about heroine, suicide, and/or cunilingus....look it up.

  • @666flatliner lol true words man

  • this riff off the disonant chord and the bass is so sweet.

  • Pretty good cover, but I like the original more.

  • this deftones song is never heard out of all there amazing songs this needs to hit the radio air waves with there other hits

  • @TheMetro666 the radio is the enemy nowadays

  • What does mean the lyrics?

  • Nick Diaz.

  • @MrSamyboi911 is this his entrance theam?

  • @MrSamyboi911 curious, what does Nick Diaz have to do with this song?

  • Never heard this one before just add it up to another one that I love from them : )

  • Great cover!!!

  • 4 people dont have ears.

  • I expected this to be overly heavy and metally. Props to the Deftones, this is an excellent cover.

  • @volvomantom clearly you don't know the deftones.

  • @xBillyTheKidx Sorry for any upset or offence caused.

  • You know man the cover of simple was okay the guys played great but the vocals of all things I'm criticizing ..lol were not to good the deftones style didn't sound right with the sound

  • even though this is a cover... im not gonna look for the original lol simple man was nailed better than the original anyone agree?

  • Deftones, the definition of beautiful.

  • From 3:35 onwards, I eargasimed.

  • some covers ARE better than their originals, not sure about this one tho...

But jimi hendrix's 'all along the watchtower' kills bob dylan's.

  • i heard a cover to savory, and it wasn't deftones. it was really good but i just can't find it now :/

does anyone know of any other popular or semi-popular bands that did a cover to this song?

  • @xOchaneldollOx This cover isn't just Deftones.... It's Deftones w/ Far. Far may have covered this on the road by themselves.... dont know.

  • @jnuhjnuh oh alright thank you, ill look into it

  • Deftones are a great band and they aren't afraid to show their influences. If you dig this check out more Jawbox and then check out Helmet, Quicksand and Barkmarket.

  • ola checa mi video

  • Not a bad cover. You can definitely tell how much Jawbox influence Deftones in all of their music :)

  • loved this song when I heard it years before it was released on b-sides, pretty sure it's been out since like 98

  • whos doing the harmony here?

  • @penandwhiteout chino and jonah

  • No cover song is ever better than the original. They are doing another Magicians Magic Trick, do you understad? If you don't dig it than you got no shovel.

  • @Unlockedgrooves Nirvana's cover of "Love Buzz"? Gary Jules' cover of "Mad World"? Hendrix' cover of "All Along The Watchtower"?

  • i think chinos range is to big for this song

  • Funny they would cover this since whenever I hear the original I think "and deftones was born"

  • dischord will always be in my heart, deftones forever. R.I.P. Jawbox, always a faithful fan.

  • dischord will always be in my heart, deftones forever.

  • am i the only person who thinks far don't get enough credit for being involved with this cover

  • @djentagogo no their voices blend great...!!

  • Deftones <3

  • Eh. I'm on either side with this. The original was soo kickass but I find it impossible to hate on this. Both sides get an A+

  • I'm embarrassed for Jawbox that the Deftones covered this song. Sounds almost just like the Jawbox version, except the Deftones lick my ballsack.

  • @italiaholic If it sounds just like the original, it means they are good and credible musicians. And they're called Deftones, not THE Deftones.

Now you cover a song. Asswipe.

  • @dicked2 Funny, I get paid to play in a cover band. And THE deftones still lick balls. As do you, "Dicked"

  • @italiaholic

Wow, you play in a cover band... I play in a REAL band, who write original songs.

Go cover Justin Beiber, it would definatley suit you.

  • @italiaholic you have a ball sack?! wow I never new you could have a pussy and a ball sack at the same time.

  • Wow. You guys should stop wasting your time on the comments haha

    Fucking pathetic.

  • parts of this cover is better than the original. but i think it's more the mixing than the actual playing-- for example i like that the bass drum is more prominent in this version, so it adds a bit more oomph. the bass guitar is pretty true to kim's original bass line, which is freakin' awesome in this song... but it feels overall a bit "sloppy" but then maybe that's just the deftones... jawbox was pretty tight and technical in their recordings, so it's really hard to duplicate that...

  • perfect cover.

  • sounds like he's singing with Jonathan Davis from Korn.

  • I have to disagree with Proxist11, I think covers are great when played as the original, but when the covering band makes a few minor improvements, it sometimes makes the song so much better, i.e Reel Big Fish's Take on Me cover, yeah they played the way Aha did but with their horn section, just made it more fun to hear. Another good example Killswitch Engage's version of Hold Diver (Dio) and Atreyu's You give love a bad name (Bon Jovi) both covers show case the covering bands style...

  • Deftones, Marry me?

  • Remember I was here.Thai

  • i'm sorry for sounding like an idiot to all you jawbox fans, but i heard the deftones version first. and when I finally did hear the jawbox version on the radio, i thought, "why are they playing this crappy cover of my favorite deftones song?" sorry, but if you look at it from an objective point of view, the deftones version is like the original with a better singer

  • @gogobaga I completely agree

  • I couldn't love this cover more. I even named myself after it, hence my screen name. haha. :)

  • @Yammi50 There's no such thing as Emo.

  • holy crap ths is soooooo good!!!!

    get bettr chi

  • I think both versions are good, but the Jawbox version just feels right. It is their song after all and their version just gives me goosebumps. It's just perfect.

  • esse foi um belo cover.

  • i'm doing burlesque to this. SO hard. * gonna happen.

  • I really like deftones, but they messed up the song. If something is perfect (and that song is just the way jawbox recorded it) you better not touch it. if you do a cover song, add something to it, play it a really different way, or just leave it.

  • decent cover...doesn't do the original justice, but not much could.

  • what exactly is this song about? i heard its about going down on a chick lol

  • "better than the original"? ROFLMAO

  • I like the deftones but this is sloppy and weak compared to the original.

  • i believe in skateing, deftones, pussy, satan, kfc, beer, and hot wings. the love for pinback, team sleep and deftones is so strong within all of you. you cant describe it i feel your pain.

  • Doesn't compare to the original though....Jawbox's original is better.

  • eargasm. better than original :)

  • Like all 2 other versions I know (Jawbox and Jonah Matranga's oneliendrawing) this is a Great one too!! Is it just the song? I love it!

  • first time iv heard this but pretty sweet

  • One of the songs of this album that i like too much. Thanks for this!

  • @85east you know nothing. I assume you have no idea of the emotional hardcore bands around in the mid 80's like Rites Of spring and Embrace.?

  • i am so not having this cover hahah

  • emo is just a werd that goths created late 90s to try and push back the on coming wave of "rebels" there is no such thing its just soft rock... and probably the most over used word rock music..

  • @85east in fact there is no such thing as emo + rebel

    just "rebel"

  • Both the Cover this cover which is the Deftones and Far, and The onelinedrawing cover got me to do research and become a fan of Jawbox and other '90's 2nd wave emo bands, and that in turn got me into the 80's 1st wave stuff, so covers are a great way to get younger people into music they might not have otherwise has a chance to hear

  • Yeah me 2 im 15 but i love second wave emo stuff (:

  • This is good, for Deftones belting out a cover, but yes, I agree with a lot of the comments below, Jawbox's original just has something special. Can't really put a finger on it but it's just better by comparison.

  • its special cause its the original let ppl bitch and moan i thin the cover is great. It wouldn't exist if they didn't make it lol.

  • waaaay better.

  • The point of a cover, you fools, is not to improve upon an extant song. It is to pay homage to the song. Deftones are simply saying that Jawbox rocked here and the best way they could do that was to do a cover which could expose them to a larger audience.

  • Imitation is the highest form of flattery. Well said Proxist1.

  • yep

  • Word.

  • @Proxist1 eXactly!

  • @Proxist1 : agreed. And they do it pretty much spot on. They don't try to embellish too much or bring too much of their "flavor" to the song. This is one of my favorite 90s covers, just behind Snake River Conspiracy's cover of Cure's "Lovesong."

  • @Proxist1

That is absolutely ridiculous. If anything, the ultimate homage is to preform the cover better than the original band did. I would feel honored if one of my favorite bands covered one of my best songs and did it x100 better. It shows me that someone loved my song enough to out-do what we started.

Why are many Deftones fans so full of themselves? Just relax. No one is out to take your precious music from you.

And before you accuse me, Deftones are one of my fav bands ever!!!

  • @Proxist1 Holy shit, thank you so much. Common sense just isnt cool anymore.

  • @Proxist1 Not to mention, um, the song is from B Sides and Rarities...lol.

Pay no mind to morons. I feel your pain.

  • definatly

  • stupid deftones fans thumbing down my original comment. I'll say it again: THE ORIGINAL IS WAY FUCKING BETTER. Get a clue, lol

  • Totally agree The Orginal version is that much better. Despite tha fact that I'm a deftones fan and just discover Jawbox through that song.

a slight loss in BPM make it heavy

    The original is more distinct.

    Cheerio's

  • i dont feel like scrolling down to see your original comment, but i wholeheartedly agree that the original is WAY better. better vocals and clearer production. fuck the fools who thumbs downed you.

  • calm down lmao

  • sounds nothing like chino, but he still sings it great.

  • Jonah Matranga (from Far and various other bands) is singing with him on this recording as it was recorded with both Far and Deftones jamming in a studio in Sacramento. Far's drummer is playing the first half then Abe (Deftones) jumps on the kit during the guitar break and plays to the end and Stef (S.Carpenter of Deftones) was playing bass

*info is from the ledger notes in the B-Sides & Rarities CD by Deftones :)

  • jonah also covered this song in his Onelinedrawing project. it's on one of the Sketchy EPs, i forget which.

  • I like this version

  • yeah there's alot of cover on this album.

it's pimp to see the style of music deftones respects.

  • At least they had the good taste to cover this, but the original is way better.

  • i heard the jaw box version when i was about 11 but i still like this version a bit more.

  • Def. a cover, i love when people act like the know what they are talking about!

  • It's ok. Not a patch on the original though...

  • Jawbox wrote this song in 1993, this is most definitely a cover.

  • What are you saying you dick! Its a Jawbox cover. Think and do some research before you open your trap and tell yourself its a good idea to type about shit you have no idea about. My two pennies. We don't have cents in England

  • Love you too sexy pants

  • It's a Jawbox cover, not Sawbox.......moron!

  • Oops.. my bad.. thnx for mentioning :p
