@Korsad1123 "running rich" maybe... however thats from an aftermarket programmer... which makes them use excess fuel.. regardless 6.7 dodge diesels are much more efficient thanks to the VGT and will thus blow less smoke.. VE, P711, VP44 and commonrail 5.9L trucks are all much more "smoky".. it is much easier to get more smoke out of an older truck, as older tech is generally less efficient.
@onestepcloser28 are you serious? nearly every aftermarket company out there flo-pro, AFE, Banks, Silverline etc) makes a DPF(diesel particulate filter) and catalyst delete. ATS even has even had a prototype performance dpf that is far less restrictive. Nevertheless very ill informed..

Ever watch tractor pulls or diesel's on a dyno or anything under a real load? Yes the everyday ISX is going to pour black smoke due to a lot of things such as a DPF filter, EGR, and all the other Emission requirements that make it so these engines have to be HUGE displacement monsters so they can basically starve them. just my .02

@sommermatej Umm...yes and no. The jaring fact is that all that soot is unburned fuel. Ideally, you want to burn all that fuel. More power! Balancing out your fuel/air mixture in a diesel engine can be a little laborious. Remember what diesel engines lack: throttles. So this can create some rather interesting results when pumping fuel into the mixture. Finding that balance of air and diesel fuel while maintaining stability can be a headache.

@vdubz757 How is black smoke a bad thing? It's burnt diesel fuel. None of the fuel is being wasted, gray is unburnt, black is burnt. Ever watch tractor pulls or diesel's on a dyno or anything under a real load? Yes the everyday ISX is going to pour black smoke due to a lot of things such as a DPF filter, EGR, and all the other Emission requirements that make it so these engines have to be HUGE displacement monsters so they can basically starve them. just my .02

@vdubz757 On diesel, it is quite normal because diesel burns pretty much slower than gasoline. that's why everything on a diesel engine is made of metal, to handle more pressure because the burning explosion is bigger than a gasoline powered engine.

@sommermatej Umm...yes and no. The jaring fact is that all that soot is unburned fuel. Ideally, you want to burn all that fuel. More power! Balancing out your fuel/air mixture in a diesel engine can be a little laborious. Remember what diesel engines lack: throttles. So this can create some rather interesting results when pumping fuel into the mixture. Finding that balance of air and diesel fuel while maintaining stability can be a headache.
