Wellness Revolution? Health & Wellness was $200 billion in 2002. Today it's closer to $500 billion per year. America looks like a Third World Country where "sickness" is concerned as we spend $315 Billion on "reactive" pills in the form of pharmaceutical's that do not cure anything. Cancer? Simple, it's just like a weed, the human body is the Periodic Table, bring 90 nutrients in balance!
the bone that is "shaved" from the distal clavical is done so in order to eliminate any impingment from the bone onto the cuff which could ultimately lead to a rotator cuff tear. Think of a your fingers in a completely relaxed state and how they curve downward. That downward pressure is applied to your rotator cuff causing it to tear. Now if you straighten out your fingers, that is what the surgeon is trying to achieve by resecting that portion of the bone. I hope this helps.
@powerliftingaddict A surgeon said they shave some of the bone off because when the person uses that joint the bone wears out the rotator cuff and it'll undo what they did to repair it. Hope this answers your question.
i was operated 2 weeks ago 4.4.2011. ( supraspinatus reconstruction) and of course asked surgeon about this.He said that it has no affect on that, that your shoulder would get dislocated easer because there are other structures that keep it in place ;not acromion
I just had mine done two weeks ago, exactly as the animation shows. Its still early but results so far are very promising, Ive got a lot of healing to do before I can really get range of motion but even with the limited motion I can do, my shoulder feels slick as ball bearings... Now Ive got to get my left done, its not a torn tendon, but an impengment.
@dieselwarriordotcom hey does it hurt cuz some fag messed both myne up in a wrestling turnament nd da docs said it should heal but it still hurts nd idk if it tore "/ nd its been like since like...lets just say long time
@CUPCAKE916408 OMG IDK. :-) If its been a while, go see another doctor. Some doctors are lazy, because they are human... maybe he is ignorant. Maybe nothing is wrong. Give it some time to heal up, if it still hurts then... see him again or find a new doctor. GL
Surgery done 2/11/10,now comes the rehab. Can't wait to see if this works well. My brother had his knee replaced and he is doing great. He can run like a mad-man again. My shoulder had become useless.
I have a torn rotator cuff. And it's the reason why my sophmore year sucks now for the rest of the school year. I missed out on my whole football season ( I only played one game), why I can't participate in activities such as football, boxing, track and taekwondo. Guys in school pick on me and I can't fight back because of my shoulder and I'm always depressed. Now I have to wait till summer to get the surgery and I'm now finding out it's painful and they have to remove/cut bone. My life sucks.
dont give up bro , a warrior doesnt give up on something he loves ;) .. u just have to fight it mentally not physically .. im not trying to tell u that by trying to be a philosopher .. im talking to u cause i had a similar case .. i had an experience :) gd luck !
@TheSuperEntertainer Dude exact same thing happened to me, except im a wrestler/martial artist, had the surgery on my right, make sure to be extremely disciplined with rehab and exercise the rotator cuff muscles on both sides, best of luck
@TheSuperEntertainer It feels sooo much tighter, still trying to get the full strength back after 3 months but range of motion is perfect, now my other one's fucked up though lol But the difference between the two is amazing, i have genetically loose shoulder joints though
@Kaelan66 A few more questions..., so is it better that it's tighter, is it ever in pain, have you been to physical therapy yet, and I'm only 15 so will mines heal greatly because I'm young???
@TheSuperEntertainer Yes you want it to be tight so it doesnt come out easily. it still hurts sometimes when lifting a lot but im not fully healed yet, i did do physical therapy, and have continued doing the execises everyday at home, and im 16, and healed very very fast so probably, yea
The most painless way to have this operation is on the Merivaara Practico Shoulder Arthroscopy operating table, the surgeon has better access and the operation takes a lot less time. Contact Europa Medical for details of your local hospital using the table +44 (0)845 658 4328
I was told yesterday I have to have this surgery on both shoulders! One at a time I hope! But I need to know how long it will take to recover, I drive a motorbike, how soon will I be able to drive it?
Yess it hurts, and no yur not gonna be able to run not unless u tape yur arm to yur body and run swinging one arm! I doubt you'll wonna run looking like a retard!
Well yea ~ I'm thinkin the same about injections ~ waste of time! ~ I was sent for an x/ray, god knows why when its obviously an (mri) i need! Never been referred 2 specialist, That is defo my next port of call as im getting no-where with my family doctor!! In so much pain and as im only 29 i dread 2 think what it could be like when im older if something isnt done now....
Just wondered if any1 wud hav some advice as i have been told some time ago that i have this injury ~ Ive been in alot of pain for the last 4yrs now. Physiotherapy x3 never helped! I keep gettin painkillers thrown @ me by my Doctor!
i got the surgery 3 days ago and it is really painful! they are going to make 3 incisions (about 1/2 in wide) on your shoulder and 1 small incision for a pain pump. i have to keep my arm in a sling and have weekly physical therapy until i'm fully recovered. good luck to you
Hey ~ Thanx 4 message but surgery has never even been mentioned to me ~ They are talkin about giving me steriod injections to stop all the pain ~ Would it not be easier just to have surgery?? Arnt these injections just putting things off!? :O(
is your doctor an orthopedic specialist? my family doctor referred me to see a specialist and from there they did a mri on my shoulder and scheduled my surgery a couple of weeks later. i wouldn't waste my time with those steroid injections.
In my opinion the cortisone is just a stop gap measure to lower the pain until surgery. The shot did help me quite a bit and physio has helped me regain quite a bit of range of motion, but I expect the surgery in 1 -2 months. You are right, Xray won't show the full extent of the injury. I was in much the same boat as you for the first few months after my surgery until I convinced my Dr to send me to a specialist. Best of luck.
Thankyou ~ Same to u ~ Hope surgery goes well 4 u!
I will carry on pushing my case with the doctor ~ 5 yrs of putting it on the backburner is literally taking the piss now ~ Im just gettin weaker over time on my right shoulder now....
I had my surgery Jan 11 and have full use of my shoulder- Some exercises need me to wait a few more months as I had alot of bone removed.( I've even gone backpacking, starting in April) My shoulder feels good now- almost like it has a girdle tightened- There is still pain with weight lifting and yoga but my MD said I'd be like new and never would stop noticing any difference. Sling for a month,PT 6 weeks- I went through June. Have the surgery at HSS. My MD, Dr. Maynard, is a genius.
I had a small tear in cuff, needed acromeoplasty and coller bone shaving as well as having removal of earlier surgery remains from poor surgery. You will not have your strength back for at least 6 months so you will need to use your other arm and sailing partners. Listen to your MD- they will tell you restrictions. Mine said I could ski after 4 months. but most recommend up to a year, For most, its much more difficult a surgery than surgeons prepare you for and an extended period of PT.

Great animation that really illustrates the point.
I wonder if you are more susceptible for shoulder dislocation after that kind of operation where slices of acromion are taken away.
It is the roof of the shoulder all the same?
