  • Lul school at his age?

  • @jderhak I dont take adhd meds. Never liked them. But if you paid me to pay attention, even if it was something exciting like an action-packed movie or live show, I will 95% of the time not end up getting paid because I cannot for the life of me control my bouncing ping pong ball-like, hyper, distracted mind.

adhd is real. the drug companies just decided to bank on it :-)

doesn't take away the fact that the disorder is there.

  • I take my notebook to meetings (write down tasks) because i will never remember it when i walk out.

yes, im a compulsive procrastinator - so I overload and overwork. when i use alcohol to make people more interesting at parties, i become hyperactive. i can hyperfocus if the work is interesting and challenging. I dont think of it as a disorder, my brain is just wired differently and im trying to make the best of it.

    I have never taken drugs.

Im an engineer with ADD, & my solutions are amazing :)

  • @SSuperCuriouss I second you ! Amen

  • It's a problem, yo.

It would be great if society weren't rigid on defining "disorders", "drugs" and "doctors", so one wouldn't have to grovel before some no-brainer lady "admitting" to "an illness" to get some useful "drugs".

It's hard ENOUGH for us to get around to getting help without the additional obstacle course.

  • I am 34 and this conditioned has absolutely left my life in shambles! What a curse if you don't learn how to manage it ! My case is far severe and I am slowly learning to workaround the problems and it has helped.

  • @AJBluesman How are you doing on it? It seems to get worse the older I get =( I refuse to take the meds because of the side effects.

  • @theyanna Thanks for asking. So sweet and thoughtful of you indeed :) I have made my requests known with thanks to Lord Jesus. If he would take it away, but not my will and that his be done in my life. I have learned that his grace alone is sufficient for us and he is with us believers to the end of the world. So I have nailed that worry and anxiety on that cross and have never looked back since...If this is part of the cross that I am to carry so I will thankfully..Praise God Amen :)

  • I unknowingly struggled with these symptoms for most of my life. Now, at 27, I'm finally seeking help.

Has anyone else had problems explaining their problems to an M.D.? When I explained my problems to my doc, he gave me the feeling that he it was a willpower problem (or even a lack of intelligence!). He really didn't give the disorder (or me, for that metter) very much respect.

  • @MrMithchellLagle: For me it was a nightmare. Doctors in my country don't know adhd at all or they are convinced it is only childish problem. One of them even mocks me and sad that my symptoms cannot exist, or I couldn't be a university graduate. But finally I've found a good doc. Keep seaching for a better doc, I'm just going to cross my fingers for you.

  • @MrMitchellLagle man I can,t even count how many do that.i think if you find one who has it that one be really helpfull.

  • They only symtoms i DON'T have is Impuslivness and Hyperness.

  • You could have ADHD-Primarily Inattentive. Hyperactivity is only an issue for certain people.

  • So adderall(amphetamines) increases the levels of dopamine, as same as cocaine does, your brain gets used to such higher levels of dopamine so when you stop using adderall you can tell the difference, you get addicted to amphetamines for life, you make psychiatrists and pharmaceuticals rich. What a beautiful American dream.

  • I dont do well at school, I dont like to read, I dont have any attention at class, my mind is somewhere else instead of the black text I have in the top of my desk, that makes me mentally ill? Theres no physical brain evidence in a ADHD patient that can tell if either what he/she has is a normal imbalance of chemicals/vitamins/nutrients in his/her brain due to psychological traumas or diets, or is actually a real genetic illness.

  • ADHD is not considered a mental illness.

  • @kiggity9 yeah, its considered a developmental disorder. And its real.

  • @buenbum55 Ya, that was my point. When I posted this, there were comments referring to it as a mental illness.

  • @kiggity9 cause it is not one.

  • For Women with ADD.. Go and see Sari Solden Michigan.. She wrote a book called "Women with Attention Deficit DisOrder" .. We need an ADD coach.. /Organizer/and counsellor

  • I have autism with tendencies towards ADD (apparently the two conditions can sometimes overlap). It's so true that ADD symptoms can get in the way of getting help. I don't get it when people talk about overdiagnosis as if it is a global phenomenon because outside of the USA it can be really difficult to get a diganosis.

  • Where do you get tested if you have ADHD as an adult?

    I am in NYC

  • Here in Greece it is impossible to get diagnosis or treatment as an adult.

Everyone who says that it doesn't exist should spent 24 hour with me,than he will change opinion.

  • hehe, sometimes i wish i could give my brain to someone who doesnt understand for a few minutes.

  • Thanks for sharing your story, Thomas! Great job!

ADHD is real, folks. And it's a heckuva lot more common than most people know.

  • Yes, it does exist!

And Dr. Adler's right: Many people with ADHD need help following through on getting help.

Don't believe the old 1960s therapy line: If someone really wants help, they will get it. Most people with ADHD don't have any idea that the "noise" in their head or their distractibility isn't "normal." Or, if they do realize it's a problem, they often have no hope that life can be any different -- because they've tried many organizing systems, etc. to no avail.

  • Sluggish Cognitive Tempo (SCT) is a descriptive term which is used to better identify what appears to be a homogeneous group within the ADHD predominantly inattentive (ADHD-I or ADHD-PI) classification in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fourth edition. It has been estimated that the SCT population may make up 30-50% of the ADHD-PI population.

  • I have severe adult ADHD.I have always been ADHD,but coped & really well i was a workaholic for many years until a serious car accident-i could walk for quite a while & thats when my problems started,& the need for medication-now used for 2 years.

my father admits now that he always had ADHD-really DAD no kiding, like we didnt notice-lol

  • It is not that it doesn't exist. Just don't use it as an excuse to be unhappy or special if you know what I mean.

  • they say it doesn't exist? but it describes everyhting about me perfectly! Thanks for the video x
