  • Pavel Bure is freaking amazing.

  • @ECWnWWF so your saying because there are empty seats ( which tgere aren't! I looked) in a playoff game in calgary in 1994 canadians don't like hockey as much as tgey say they do......thats some dumbass logic

  • best game ever

  • wow the Flames fans are very passionate, a big time playoff game, against a bigtime rival, and lots of empty seats... are you sure this isn't the Atlanta Flames? I thought Calgary, being in Canada, would be hockey crazed ... wow! way to support your team, Canada = hockey frauds.

  • who knew that canucks were diving since 94

  • Thanks for posting this. I've never seen the whole game...

  • R.I.P Don Wittman

    We miss you

  • Such good skaters on both teams. I see lots of hooking and holding that would be called nowadays but none of the slashing that ruined this years playoffs. This was great hockey.

  • Wow, the whole game. Awesome!

  • Incomprehensible that they didn't win the cup with that lineup but here's hoping for 2011. Love the Chrysler Neon ads and forgot that Molson Canadian "Ice" even existed. Egads. Linden for Bertuzzi, Bertuzzi for Louu. Basically equals Linden for Louu with some boredom in between. Not so bad when you think about it, no slight on Linden intended. Let's hear it for 1994.

  • One of the best games ever, always a tilt when these two get together. It's not often that a team wins three straight games in a row, much less all of them in overtime. And the Bure goal was just sick. The Canucks need to stop playing and hang his number in the rafters already.

  • all 3 of those times (89, 94, 04) the team that won the series went to the Stanley cup finals

  • Watching this game compared to the NHL now, man has it ever changed, contact back then didn't automatically result in a penalty

  • I already knew what would happen, but when Memesso hit the post of the draw, my heart raced, this, along with game 6 of the finals from '94, were the two greatest games in the history of the Vancouver Canucks, and that goal judge was an idiot, that wasn't a goal, it was the greatest save in NHL history, courtesy of Captain Kirk McLean. Luongo has a thing or two to learn from McLean, one is consistancy.

  • This is the first time in nearly 17 years that Ive seen the entire game replayed and I still get chills. That save by McLean was the BEST...And Bure's winner in double OT got me as wound up as Ive ever been by a hockey game. That 94 team was very much similar to the 82 squad.Linden=Smyl..Brodeur=Cpt Kirk.....but perhaps with a bit more talent. Lastly, Don Whittman was a damn good commentator. The Bure goal and his call on Donovan Bailey in the 100 m at the 96 Olympics..Classic.. RIP good sir.

  • @rhettinski The '94 team was definitely much more talented and skilled than the '82 team. The '82 team likely would not have been anywhere the Stanley Cup Finals had Edmonton not been upset by the L.A. Kings in the 1st round. Then again, they weren't even good enough to get by L.A. when it mattered the most. That upset proved to be the precursor to the Oilers dynasty of the 80's.

  • The last three time these teams have met in the playoffs ('89, '94, '04), the series has been decided in game 7, in overtime. That's pretty insane. It would be amazing if these teams met in the playoffs this year.

  • @wcwnwoflamesrule

Not only that the winner advanced to the finals and when the canucks made it to the finals in the early 80's they played you guessed it Calgary in the first round!

  • @wcwnwoflamesrule 1994 and 2004 both clubs were pretty evenly matched up, 1989 series going into OT of Game 7 was a total fluke. Calgary was a dominant squad that year and Canucks were middle of the pack team, but McLean played terrific in Game 1 OT victory and McDonald missed almost all of the series. Otherwise, the series would probably have been over in 5 games.

  • Wow this was such an amazing game for both teams! its not easy to see your season end that was a tough loss for Calgary. but give Vancouver so much credit for sticking with there game plan and to tie it up!! and man what a kick save by Kirk it has to be the greatest save in Canucks history. And what a goal buy Bure great pass! I never did get a chance to watch these games when I was 11 years old so thank you for keeping this and displaying it hear! Canucks and Flames rock!

  • oh man I did not think it could be possible to upload the full games thanks so much!!

  • Huge save by Kirk McLean, huge goal by Pavel Bure to finish it for the Vancouver Canucks. One of the Canucks' all time greatest playoff games. Thank you NHLVideo for posting this classic hockey game.

  • this should be in HD

  • 1:48:11. Save of his career.

  • @rovert40 not just of his career but one of the best saves of all time

  • @rovert40 save of all time

  • I had just started watching the NHL in `94 and this was not on in the U.S. but after the espn game was over they switched to this one, I quickly learned that the CBC was much better at Hockey broadcasts than ESPN. Calgary was snakebit during the mid 90's with Bure in 94 and even more demoralizing was the 1995 series with San Jose, they outscored them 35-26 but still lost in 7.

  • Great to see that entire NHL playoff games from the past can be uploaded -- hope more will come

Did view part of this game on espn at the time however I would rather see this game again on CBC -- so thanks for that

Vancouver-Calgary series match-ups (all 1st rounds series in 1989, 1994 and 2004 have proven to be a bellwether -- winner advanced all the way to the final round

  • @rcviolet6 This loss was a heartbreaker, especially that the Flames were up 3-1 and lost 3 straight in overtime.

  • Great to see this game posted on nhl.com and youtube, but at the same time I have to ask why the hell NHL Network doesn't show anything like this on their network seriously. Seeing the same years playoff games over and over is so lame and lazy.

  • thank you oh thank you for posting this.

  • Kirk McLean made the save off Reichel that not only saved the Canucks playoff lives, but it was the one which was career-defining for him!No doubt that Robert Reichel didn't live that one down!

  • As a Flames fan myself,it was heartbreaking to see them put a strangle hold on Vancouver and lose 3 straight, especially in overtime, but the Canucks eventually proved that this series win was no fluke as they pushed the NY Rangers to a seventh game in the Stanley Cup Finals that year.

  • The Flames were always snakebitten when it came to Game 7s that went into overtime in the 1st round,or just period! One of the notable exceptions to that rule occurred the year they won the Stanley Cup in 1989 when Joel Otto scored the OT winner against Vancouver. Then again, that was prior to the 90's where they couldn't seem to buy their way into the 2nd round!

  • wow this is awesome! Thanks NHL Video!

  • @wookie11 I take it you're a Canucks fan then?

  • @landrykkb yes I am. Since 94

  • This sure was one hell of a series though, even if my Flames lost!I just finished watching tonight's game where Chicago eliminated the Canucks for the 2nd straight year, and the '94 team seemed to have a much better team every which way than this current one, except for maybe a world class goalie in Roberto Luongo, but he can't score goals.

  • @landrykkb 94 team was solid. This year, D was lacking, especially tonight's game when we played injured Salo and Edler went off in the second. Not much you can do there other than sign more and better d-man next year. It should be a long ride next year for us. Hope the Flames do well too. We need more Canadian teams to make the playoffs.

  • @wookie11 Absolutely, and Gary Bettman makes me sick when he justifies keeping the Coyotes in Phoenix by comparing it to all us Canadian cities and traditional U.S. hockey markets when we'd be frustrated by our own teams lack of success, patience, taking it out on the officials and what have you. That's because we're passionate about hockey whereas the residents of Tampa Bay could care less that their team, for example.

  • @landrykkb exactly. I'm sure some American cities will not give a rat's ass when the team moves to another city. Phoenix had 10000+ fans until Balsille almost bought the team. American people are major bandwagon jumpers when it comes to hockey for sure. Bettman's contact is up soon and I pray to God that he does not re-sign. If there's one thing wrong with the NHL, it is Bettman.
