  • what hook size do you recommend? Also could you show me how to make a flower to put on the beret?

  • @lewiesgirl94 I (5.5mm) or J (6mm)hook.

  • @Bethintx1 awesome I have both :) thanks!

  • what an awesome teacher you are... can this beret be unisex?

  • OMG this is great,,, just what I need!!! What a wonderful teacher. You ROCK!!!

  • Oh dear bethintx...what a super teacher you are! How can I find you on Facebook?

  • @haylinmilsam facebook dot com slash bethintx1 also the group, Bethintx1 crochet club.

  • luv it! i'm a guy, and might make a black one. luv the double crochet! thanks!!!!!

  • how do u keep it flat

  • @jadamaze The stitches number of will make it flat. Why do you ask? If you piece is cupping too soon, then you need to re-count your increases, if it is rippling, then you have too many increases. If it's floppy from your stitches being too loose, you either need to use thicker yarn or a smaller hook.

  • I will give this a try when I have some down time.

  • I can't find the next video to continue making the hat. How do I get part 2 out of the 4 videos?

    Thanks

  • @grammi24 There is a Basic Beret playlist. go to my channel and click playlists and search for basic beret. all of the vids in the series is there.

  • @grammi24 PS I added an annotation linking to it at the end of this video.

  • where can I find this pattern so I can read it as I crochet//??

    Thanks

  • @grammi24 Sorry I never wrote this one out.

  • woah you're fast

  • @aKsuper0 Viewers who follow my Back to basics videos should already know how to make the magic circle, chain stitches, single crochet, double crochet, & double crochet flat circles. Go back to my back to basics flat circle video if you have trouble following this. You also can pause & rewind.

  • @Bethintx1 okay, i was just admiring how fast you are. i wish i was that fast. i know how to crochet.

  • @aKsuper0 Okay. Sorry! I get the complaint that I'm TOO fast too often. That's why I didn't read it as you intended! Now that I re-read it I see what you were saying. Thanks. You can get fast too. keep practicing!

  • @Bethintx1 its alright no worries! :)

  • Can you slow down

    next time please

  • @smartynerd1 There is a pause and rewind button.

  • you have me confused, lady

  • @mzveronica890 What is confusing you? perhaps I can explain it differently.

  • I wanted to let you know that I have made 2 of these now, and they only took me one day each! Originally I started with a pattern I found from a yarn website but got frustrated with it and googled how to crochet a hat and your videos popped up! Thank you so much for this step by step tutorial! They were so easy to make. I made one for myself and one for my son. I am about to make another as well!

  • My eyes can't keep up!!! :(

  • @MissAlyssaAlinda Watch without crocheting a couple of times, the grab your hook & yarn. Then watch. pause the video make your stitch, watch, pause the video make a stitch etc.

  • Thank you so much for this tutorial! This is my first project that's not a scarf, lol. I have a question though: all of my chain 3's are kinda tight to each other but are forming a slight hole where i join it to increase, so it looks like i have a slight gap between stitches. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

  • @smoochacha Try a ch-2 instead.

  • Do you have to double crochet the flat circle to make a beret? Or can I single crochet the flat circle? Thanks

  • @kinzluvs2cheer It's your beret! Do whatever stitch or stitch pattern you like! Just remember, the drape will be different and sc stitches are a little tighter than dc. To make the sc drape a little softer (sc can be rather stiff) you can work in the back loop only. The fun thing about crochet is that you can play with the different stitches and if you don;t like it, just rip it out and try something else.

  • @Bethintx1 thanks so much! Your videos help me a lot too!(:

  • Thank you for the the tutorial, however I am still having a hard time with getting around round 2 you say that we need 24 and also how do you keep your circle to look so tight without it starting to curl in. Because that's what is happening to mine.

    Thank you again! =]

  • @azngrlID Increasing is what keeps it from curling. It does take practice.

  • @azngrlID it's not how tight it is that makes it start to curl. i thought that at first to, but she's right, its how you increase. when i watched this i really didn't get what increasing was, but all you have to do to increase is when you make one stitch, you make another one in the same space you just made one, so two come out of one stitch. also, its a trial and error as to how often you increase, but i found it best when i do every other. so one normal, one increased.

  • This tutorial is fantastic. I taught myself to crochet a few months ago, but never tried a beret for fear of messing it up. I followed your 4 part tutorial and I DID IT!!! Your instruction is very clear even for people that don't know the technical terms for stitches, etc. Good job and thank you!!

  • thank you. i'm figuring it out slowly. :)

  • thank you for this video. it is helpful but i can't do the magic curcle no matter how much i try, sorry. i really like these types of hats. can't wait to figure it out.

  • @Silvershadowdemon18 You can chain 4 and then slip stitch in the first chain the same way you start a granny square.

  • Thank you so much for posting these. I have not been able to successfully crochet a beret until watching your videos. I have also not been able to crochet a flat circle for the life of me; even though I understood the concept and have been crocheting for years. I couldn't even make heads or tails out of pattern books I had so thank you so very much! It is much appreciated =)

  • Instead of doing the magic circle, can you chain? I prefer to chain, but I know how to do the magic circle too, if that's required... Thank you so much for this amazing tutorial :)

  • @TheGimper93 absolutely! change it up anyway you want!

  • im making my first hat right now but it isnt from ur tutorial and i really wish i saw this video first so i wouldnt have wasted all that yarn making that other hat

  • ahhhhhhhh...I finished the beret but it has holes ,is not tight. Is it because I used a slightly thinner thread??? please please help

  • @sweetgirl93p Yes. finer thread wusing the hook for thicker yarn will have holes...Just call it lacy!

  • Thanks for the wonderful Tutorial! I was able to make one for my daughter she loves it!

  • This all i needed a simple beret for a beginner, love your instructions, I Look forward to make a Rasta sized one!

Any chance you could do a tutorial for a brim please?

    Thank you :)

  • wow that was so helpful that fisrt part...no wonder I could never start it right haha...thank you soooooooooooooooooooo much!

  • Love the videos Beth!!

  • It would be really useful to know how many dc's should be at the end of each round so I could check that I'm increasing/decreasing correctly as i go along. Love the totorial, thanks.

  • @michelleybach The totals are on the written pattern in parentheses at the end of each round in the instructions. The link to the pattern is in the description bar below the video.

  • I really appreciate this tutorial so much! Thank you, your instructions are so clear and easy to follow. Are these directions printed somewhere? What kind of yarn did you use?

  • @MsSilvercurls

The written instructions are on the link in the description bar below the video.

I used medium worsted weight yarn. Specifically, Red Heart Super Saver.

  • Are you saying you are increasing by doing 2 double crochet in one stich ?

  • @Mshardworker3 yes!

  • I didn't know that. Well I'll try to fit it, in my little head. Lol !!

  • Hello can I use F 5-3.75 mm

  • @ghoryhuon You could, but the beret will fit a doll or an infant, not an adult. You could make it with an F but would have to adjust the pattern to make more increase rounds and make that hat band with more stitches.

  • thank you very much for your video and crochet tips.it was very helpful.i am learning so much from you.you are a very good teacher.

  • I got to my sixth round and stop being flat, It bcame slightly wavy. What am i doing wrong?

  • @moonira0209 maybe you are increasing too often. Round 6 is double crochet in 4, then increase in the 5th.

  • When I was first learning to crochet I created a beret by accident just playing around with the yarn I still have it!!

  • these are definitely some of the best tutorials ive found! thank you so much! so easy to follow :)

  • you sound like you're crying

  • @AfrikaKween13 LOL! I have allergies & they make me sound that way sometimes!

  • Thank you! I´m not good at crochet, I´ve just started, but my circle it´s looking pretty well!

  • @fandelesluthiers Yay! Keep on hookin'!

  • @fandelesluthiers Yay! Keep on hookin'!

  • @fandelesluthiers Yay! Keep on hookin'!

  • also if i increase incorrectly, will it affect my beret?

  • The increases and decreases effect the shape of the circle. A minor miscount will probably be okay. Just be sure to get the right circumference on the band.

  • Oh! sorry... play it back... I'll probably use this on my Q & A videos. I already have a video that shows this, and assumed (I shouldn't) that folks have seen it. I'll post the Q & A as a response as soon as it's done.

  • great job :]

  • Thanks!

  • what size needle are you using for this pattern? thanks josie

  • OOPS! I forgot to say! It's an I/9 5.50mm hook.
