Should have mentioned Kennedy's 1961 inaugural, which was delayed by around 15 minutes because there was a fire on the platform! One of the portable floor heaters overheated. This was just before Kennedy, Johnson, Eisenhower and Nixon arrived on the platform. There is video of Kennedy being held back in a staging area inside the Capitol and NBC cutting away to the stand where you could clearly see smoke. Fortunately it was extinguished quickly with no injuries or damage.

The two anchors were laughing, laughing, and laughing...i think they just being sarcastic, and that wasn't even really funny. The man being interviewed was just trying to explain the basis of the inaugurations.

he may have screwed up quite a bit, but he's still the commander in chief and that denotes a certain amount of respect. Besides Washington wasn't god by any means. He believed that the president was above the common man, a higher entity so he refused to shake hands with anyone, believing it to be something that someone would do with their
