@AEgamesFtw Because Netball is a non-contact sport (though many penalties are given for contact..) This is not basketball; step with the ball and it's automatically given to the other team. Jumping to defend sometimes makes them lean in. Get within three feet and it's a penalty. A lot of players prefer to get on their toes and keep their balance instead of jumping.

@AEgamesFtw Most of the time when the shooter releases the ball, the defender turns around ready for the rebound. It isn't a salute though; players aren't touching under their noses, and most girls prefer to have two hands up. But isn't every time a basketball player goes for a shot, their arms are up in a kind of salute, too? Or most of the time, aha.

@Tarklovishki I don't think a comparison to basketball is possible there in that sense, since a basketball player with the ball wouldn't just stand next to a defender like that and shoot and if they did, the defender would actually jump up to block the ball directly.

Not allowed to bounce the ball and move at the same well that sucks, but then again the skill between basketball and netball is still debatable. It's particully very hard to get in the right position to put the ball into the ring.

In the CWG'10, Coxy could have won the game for the aussies during double extra time. Now, it's golden girl Tuta'ia to feel the heat. I'm a huge fan of the Silver ferns and i don't think the loss should be put onto Tuta'ia entirely. Anyw, it takes a team to win or lose, right? All the way ferns!!!

P.S. I hope the ALL BLACKS will avenge this loss by winning the Rugby World Cup on home ground. I'm sure that would be sweet victory for all kiwis.

It is a pity that Netball has never been taken up by the Commercial TV networks.

There is nothing as nerve wracking as an Australia V New Zealand Test in Netball.

I just drove past the local netball courts where I live, and there are 20 courts, side by side. on one huge concrete pad. And the games go from early morning till mid afternoon. Very popular sport for girls throughout Australia and NZ

this is one of the best sporting rivalries ive seen in the world i saw this match live and it was freaking amazing at the halfway stage i thought australia had lost it but it was incredible play by bassett that got australia back into the game...she should have got player of the match rather than medhurst though they both had a fantastic game

I'm reckoning Grant would've done way better against Bassett... Scarlett was to nice to Bassett. Needed someone to really get in there. If your going for the ball and you know that your going to be called for contact. really make her work hard and really grab the ball... Grant would have played great.. Great swap Norma putting Pittman on for Green... jody was getting under her skin and putting so much pressure on her. Love Casey Williams and Van Dyk.... Loved Gerrard in this game. Smashed George

I think its harder to dodge 12.5 paintballs a second than throwing a ball into the net but i have found a dumber sport than netball tho....curling but its all a personal preference didnt mean to make anyone mad but try paintball its actually really fun and i guess netballs not that dumb giving that there is a pro arm wrestling league.

One advantage of watching this on TV is that you know exactly how much time is left. It is traditional during netball tournaments that the on-site scoreboard stops the clock with 1 minute left, but when you watch it on TV, they keep the clock running.

Great game. Proud of both teams. Casey Williams, playing with that bad leg she still went hard. Bassett was too awesome. Scarlett wasn't mobile enough to beat bassett... She really needs to position herself better to get Bassett out of her comfort zone. Need to force her to lead to her left where she's not as comfortable shooting from. And yet again like ive always said. Australia VERSED the World in that final. south Africans and NZ .

I almost cried at 14:48. Makes me so sad that the girls couldnt win it for players like George and Van Dyk. I just wana give them a big hug for thier effort:). They deserved to go out with a win.I highly doubt they will be around in 2015. Players like Catherine Latu will have to step it up if she wants to fill th shoes of Van Dyk. Shes not as good as Van dyk but shes still young and will improve more.
