  • it's ozzys drummer tommy thats why

  • the drummer in the vid reminds me of Tommy Aldridge a bit

  • I think Dean Winchester appreciates this

  • for friend Icaro .In drums is the amazing Tommy Aldridge not the Anders Johanson

  • Yngwie. Fucking. Malmsteen

    \m/

  • Malmsteen is a fucking beast.

  • thanks 4 the update.never really liked yngwie covers,except hendrix,peace!

  • sorry icaro, you need to revise the lineup, thats tommy aldridge on drums and i know thats not jeff scott soto on vocals

  • Comment removed

  • @grandpap131 No it's Jeff, it's his voice, but in the clip it seems to be M.Boals. Jeff Scott Soto – vocals (tracks 1, 3, 6) (wikipedia)

  • The guy who edited this video should be shot. Why did he keep flashing to the drummer right in the middle of Yngwie's shreds.

  • i know right

  • @winston846 Cause it's not about Yngwie.. It's a tribute to Kansas.. Screw that fag!

  • @winston846

He was probably one of those dicks who thinks guitar soloing is 'elitist'.

  • the drummer looks like the guy screech off of save by the bell lol

  • @whitelighter90 Hey, like the comment but Screech doesn't get the limo, Tommy Aldrige usually does. Check out his resume!!!

  • @whitelighter90 Sorry that is "Aldridge"

  • Adoro essa música queria que aki no brasil tivessem mais musicos assim

mas a boa música acabou junto a década de 80

    valewww!!!!

mas essa música e original do kansas

  • Marcel Jacobs!!

  • Smokin!! Superb cover of Kansas'....Note @3:15 Yngwie flips the bird while shredding!! Jimi Hendricks would have been proud of YM.

  • yeah! that's tommy on drums!

  • Anders Johansson on drums? no it aint its Tommy Aldridge

  • I know Yngwie just from his neoclassical version of Beethoven's 5th Symphony...

I didn't know he performed in America xD

  • in MY opinion this "oriental" style especially of the solo-parts doesnt really fit into the original song.

  • bom

  • yngwie wishes he could spell his name Ritchie Blackmore.

  • I love the original, I'm a huge Kansas fan. But it's awesome Yngwie also likes them :)

  • Hmm.. The key shift in the main solo kinda woke me up again. It's cool, but it's also kinda weird. Not really a solid statement, but nonetheless this is a great cover that I enjoyed to listen to.

  • This may be better than the original... seriously, this smokes. I can remember jamming to this in my MG Midget with my supertuner... this a great choice for Senor Malmstein.. he is a greater wizard than Harry Potter... the lead vocalist and backups do a SUPERB job

  • I can't believe i never heard of this guy

  • Great cover until the solos, they would be great on their own but they don't fit the song.

  • love what he has done with the song, but I like the original better.

  • The man is simply genius. Few people can take a song like this and bring it to a totally new level. Malmsteem is one of the greatest - period. Those who deny that are obviously tone deaf or have no recognition of what a real musician is.

  • Yngwie and Kansas are both amazing, but this is an odd choice for a cover on Yngwie's part.

  • what. the. fuck. is the drummer doing?

  • whose joe sackmyhairy aint thay ozzy's drummer Dazley? zzzzzzz

  • whose joe sackmyharyony? aint thay ozzy's drummer Dazley? zzzzzzz

  • whose joe sackmyharyony?

  • haters need to die this song is legendary he plays as well as joey satriani but in a entirely different league

  • @chairchuckee shut the fuck up

  • fuck you yngwie haters you really pisses me off i wanna kill you alll whyyy you muther fuxkers do you want a fuckin fight i will kill your throat out after when im finshed you will feel a rsing force !!!!!

  • I hate Yngwie's personal attitude, but damn I love his playing! What a legend.

  • Is the key dropped in this song guys? It sounds like it is to me

  • May be the odd Yngwie fan out here...But I really think this the best solo he's ever done

  • urgh

  • Jeff Scott Soto's voice is so similar to Paul Stanley's...

  • Yngwie Malmsteen is god. He does really well, besides hes done a COVER of the song, covers are songs that are remade with added bits and changed a bit, besides none of you haters couldnt do any better

  • @tizlls3 ctually...I think the best covers are the ones that keep to the originality of the song...And this one did, for the most part. I do think I would have liked to see if he could have done the same solo as Livgren with the original. Because of this reason, I like Kansas' version better, and Stryper had the second best version of the song. Oz Fox shredded the hell out of the solo man! But Yngwie is awsome. You, just dont remember, I'll never forget...was his best tune!

  • @vicioustrucker68 Yeah i cant think of many cases where the cover is better except for the Punk goes Pop series

  • there is only one way to play this song. EXACTLY like the original. It cant be improved in any way shape or form.

  • @fight2Bfree WHICH IS WHY I LIKED STRYPERS cover better than this version! Oz Fox was awzsome on the solo!

  • i like the way he kept his cigarette on the fretboard while playing, maybe tryin to make his guitar look smokin hot

  • @mcamilleri89 Guess it aint too hard to please you! A CIGARETTE impressed you? Dude, every damned guitartist that smokes does that...Eddie, Keith Richards, Both guitarists from Maiden (Tipton and Downing) even Bruce "FAG" Springsteen! I told you....DONT SMOKE THE BROWN HASH...It makes you STUPID!

  • @vicioustrucker68 erm..... Tipton & Downing don't play for maiden..... you maybe thinking of Judas Priest

  • I like it all except for the end, wish he kept playing it similar to the original, i think it would ve been better. is there a rhythm guitarist somewhere? Cos i dont see him, yet yng is rockin his solos and and i cant see the rhythm guitar

  • is there a rhythm guitarist somewhere?

  • I personally like spirit more then skills but this fella has the skills to pay the bills :P

  • PPL R nuts if they say Yngwie cant play,Damn I get so tired of the ASS'ES saying him and others cant play.I guess thats why theyve made millions, Hmm imagine that!!!!!!!!!

  • a very 'thrown together' sounding cover.

  • that's Tommy Aldridge on drums --' (n video at least)

  • Epilepsy

  • YNGWIE'S SOUND IS LIKE DROPPING A STICK IN MUD...KERPLUNK!!!!!!!! AWFUL

  • @mikebloomfirld66 That may be so, but you should probably get your caps lock fixed.

  • Simply the best! No one play a guitar like him: Yngwie Malmsteen!

  • okey folks nobody is the best guitarist in the world evrething is about to play the music that muscians wants to play yngwie do what he wants and he is one of my favorite guitariust probably my niggest influnce on guitar but please dont say that he suck if you say so i will be a new malmsteen type that will be so much worser than yngwie and i will kill and hang evrone that not like malmsteen and you willl diee faster like i unleash the furyyyyyy so shut up muther fuckerssssssss you ugly fuckk

  • how can anyone say he is "the best guitarist"? There are SO many that far surpass Imgay malmsteen

  • ... tosin abasi is better... but a completely different style so i guess they aren't really comparable :L

  • no es jeff scott soto..no es marcel jacob......

  • lol - each one is right in his own way !!- After all the comments :) Lets accept Kansas made this 1970's. Malmsteen is a great guitarist par - excellence - :) different styles :) . There are a lot of em out there whom we dont like - but I think its talent that needs to be appreciated and we avoid getting personal :)

  • The guitar parts sound so much more crisp and clean than the Kansas version. Then add in the virtuosity of the solos and it makes for one great cover of a good song.

  • That is Tommy Aldrige on drums in the video.

  • @CHARON669 If Tommy can handle being the drummer for Whitesnake, then he can handle Malmsteen

  • @CHARON669 Didn't think it looked like Anders.

  • that's Tommy Aldrige on drums in the video.

  • that's Tommy Aldrige on drums in the video.

  • yngwie forever !!

  • Thats not Jeff Scott Soto in the video!!!

  • @MrCrissman1971 Yeah, what gives!

  • @MrCrissman1971

i think you are wrong sir.

  • Something to marvel at truly. Malmsteen is a Virtuoso like yoyo ma, or bach. natural talent anyone who thinks otherwise is ignorant. You can hear alot of the people who influenced him in his leads. dio lifeson and hendrix styles can all be heard.

  • WTF... who's singing? This is Jeff Scott Soto's voice.

  • This is love times 3!!!!!

  • He skipped the ending

  • I like it, but not that much. I don't know, Kansas doesn't sound that good with all those metal riffs and picking.

  • yngwie makes the kansas sound like crap this version is better then the original

  • Does not reach the feet of Kansas

  • @Metalfilth Course not, Originals will always be better then covers, unless they're rock covers of other genres :)

  • If you don't like Engwie you probably ate paint chips when you were little. We all snuck a booger but paint makes you crazy!

  • For this, it's typical Yngwie you love it or hate it. When Yngwie picks up the guitar, it's like a 4 year old picking up his favorite toy. Instead of looking cool, he just wants to tear it up, doing some crazy stuff (kicks, million pickthrows, throwing&smashing guitars). I wish more guitarist played with that kind of fire whitin.

Vai and Satch in that way also think about their 'cool', that somethimes makes them a bit stale. (I must admit they're probalbly more complete as musicians)

  • I agree Carl, im a big fan of Satch aswell

  • Well, there's a certain point between being able to play fast and make beautiful music. Yngwie can do both but in my opinion to an extent but I would have to say that if I could play like him, I wouldn't because just because you can play really fast doesn't mean you should. I'm more of a Satriani or Vai man but I think Yngwie is almost there, he just needs to learn that speed does not mean good

  • Not always and realy doesnt matter, every guitarist has his or her own technique n method to play, wether he plays the same stuff makes no real important difference,we are all different no matter what guitar or whos taught us,nobody can be 110 percent alike

  • It is Damn good, Iplay guitar and I'm not sad that I can play like him, I'm just damn glad someone can play like him

  • no one ever stops to think that maybe some people dont like this music.

  • @elfyboy123456 People that don't like this music have no business watching this clip. What is your point?

  • @PijnigeR my point is that people try to come up with reasons as to why people dont like this song, when it is probably as simple as them just not liking it

I, on the other hand, love this song, the original and this version

  • I partied with Yngwie back in the early 90's in Ft Lauderdale FL... way cool, he was at the bar we we're playing at and told me he F'n loved the stuff we did, Kansas,Yes,Journey... blah blah... he was all pissed at the grunge movement coming in atthe time and ended up getting escorted out of the club.... funny stuff.... Later in life I got to play for Kansas personally.

I love this version! and i bet my Kansas friends do as well!

  • Malmsteen is GOD himself!

  • im a big fan of yngwie myself. but this cover.. i mean.. come on.. it's a real fucking disaster..

  • Love this and when Yngwie plays blues/hendrix like Spanish Castle Magic...you really know that he could play his guitar strings into fire!

  • 1:45 before we anybody other than YJM or Tommy A. Really? Theres more ass shots of YFM than there are of the other band members. Oh..the song is mediocre.

  • That's the first time I looked down that far - I hadn't noticed the comment that wank made - that truly pissed me off. Having sat outside a Kansas concert and smoked all night - he's probably into Culture Club - PECKER. I hereby challenge him to a video "shred-off" - I'll smoke his tard ass on an ACOUSTIC guitar - I won't even break out my Jackson. Oh, let me guess - he doesn't play the guitar. Too bad.

  • @ Dumpters2009 - If you have listened to Leftoverture and think Kansas are anything but virtuoso LEGENDS, then you should never even LISTEN to music again - let alone COMMENT on it like you know ANYTHING about it. Maybe you didn't know even who you were seeing - over their last few years, there were MANY personnel changes. ALSO, every band had the occasional bad night, where everything goes wrong, so do yourself a favor and BUY A VOWEL, so you might get a remote clue of what you're saying.

  • One more for the record: Back then, a lot of people DID trash-talk Page and Hendrix. A lot of the previous generation's guitar players (our great-grandfathers,) like Jimmy Burton (Ricky Nelson) and Scotty Moore (Elvis Presley) who were the guys who paved the way for the guitar to be at the heart of rock 'n roll, criticized the Clapton/Page/Beck/Townsend crowd as "a lot of noise." To not like Yngwie's style is fine - to not recognize his level of accomplishment is just denial.

  • "Gina and Tonic?" Anyone who doesn't respect Malmesteen's abilities (whether you like his style or not) probably isn't a very good player. It appears the talking's done here - post up or shut up. Post a video of YOU playing, and let's see how it compares with Yngwie. Otherwise, admit you just can't grab his chops, (yet) and get over it. I have 3rd-year students who can play Hendrix and Page (possibly the sloppiest major-influence guitarist ever.) They're not near ready to take on Yngwie

  • He is a awesome guitar player, but depends also if you like his thing or not! It's just a question of personal musical taste of each one!

  • This double-neck Strat is quite possibly the ugliest guitar I've ever seen.

    Awesome cover, nevertheless.

  • The only reason why people hate Yngwie Malmsteen is because he is good, simple as that, those same people that hate him wouldnt hate him if they could play like him, they would admire him. Yngwie Malmsteen is a big influence on electric guitar compositions, theres alot of guitarists that i dont like personally but just cus i dont like some doesn't mean il trash them like a immature baby. malmsteen is egotistical but i tell you one thing if i could shred like this bloke i would also be

  • @MsLinx123 yeah and people hate Hendrix and Page because they're good, too...HUH!!!??? Doesn't even make sense..go have ANOTHER Gina and Tonic...Idiot

  • Comment removed

  • .. Ever stop to think while Yngwie SEEMS amazing he is NEVER on any of the fellow guitarist top player polls??? not even in the top 100???? It's Euro-trash!!!....he is MISSING that certain something...something a Dutch man can't get a hold of.....Take Van Halen...he's Dutch...but he had to be raised in Southern California to get that REAL vibe....You stick to windmills and leave th Rock to us!

  • @MsLinx123 It's a bit more than that. Nearly every song sounds like a filler track. It's the same chord structures and scales recycled.

  • @MsLinx123 Nah, I hate him because he's fat ¬¬

  • @MsLinx123

Damn straight. Coming from the other side of the argument, I think Yngwie fans need to understand that he isn't the best guitarist in for world simply for technical ability. The fact is, the man can't play blues. You can all say what you like, but in the end this sequence of stunts. Entertaining? Probably is for some people, personally I find Vai, Malmy, Satch ect all fairly overwhelming most of the time, but I admit it shows his extreme talent.

SRV on the other hand is a MUSICIAN.

  • @Carthsgtr are you kidding me?? who do you like better eddie van halen????

  • @marna72 i actually like eddie van halen better. just a matter of taste. i think he's more versatile too.

  • @C. SRV was great, however, you can't compare him to malmsteen, they are/were two different players. Malmsteen is a great neo classical player, SRV was a great blues player. However, with that being said, Malmsteen wasn't bad at blues (he has great feel and emotion to his playing that is blues based, such as his vibrato), not to mention he can play many other styles. SRV was a 'God' at blues, however, few can top Malmsteen for his prowess on the instrument. However, again, SRV was great (RIP).

  • @pillsareyummy I think simply put SRV can destroy Malmsteen in feel. I don't know how much of his music you listened to but to me it sounds very devoid of soul and emotion. I'd rather listen to the simple but effective guitar work of something like The Black Keys. Less notes but with more soul.

  • @Eliasoz "Feel" means different things, depending on the music. SRV was a 'blues player', Malmsteen isn't. People need to accept that not everyone's interpretation of musical emotion is the same. It's OK to be different...

  • @pillsareyummy Okay. Let me present my case more clearly then. Joe Satriani has more feel (especially live) than I think Malmsteen could ever show through his endless shredding of pentatonic scales. They both play the same genre. Hope that gets the point across better.

  • @Eliasoz Again, that's a question of taste. Also, Malmsteen's primary scales are based on Harmonic minor, and Melodic minor; not pentatonic (the scales that SRV used often). I don't care too much for rating musicians, I just appreciate them for who they are. Also, I'm not really a big fan of Malmsteen or Satriani's music, I find it too guitar orientated (ironic, since I play the guitar). If I'm going to listen to virtuosic playing I'll listen to Dream Theater (all the players shred).

  • @Eliasoz They dont play the same genre. Malmsteen is neo classical guitar player, Satriani not.

  • @MsLinx123

nah bro. people hate him cus he looks weird as fuck. He's a good guitarist, great guitarist. He looks like a retard tho.

  • @MsLinx123 Exactly mate he deserves to be on top and feel like a god because he really did awsome things such people are really close to worshipping his techniques and other things help other guitarists that did not even heard about him :D too shame...

Anyway let him live long enough to make another GIANT success in this masterpiece janr Classical Heavy Metal

  • @MsLinx123

the problem is..........he IS as good as he says he is!! my idol!!

  • @MsLinx123 I i can play a little like him, so i love Yngwie hehe

  • @MsLinx123 That doesn't really logically follow, MsLinx. If someone could play guitar like Malmsteen, they would have no reason to be impressed; they'd be more likely to be impressed if they weren't as talented.

I think it's more likely that people would dislike Malmsteen on account of his style and the way he chooses to compose pieces, rather than his skill. I personally don't think the embellishments he made to this song helped it; it was still good, but sometimes simpler is better.

  • @MsLinx123 When i commented on this Months ago, the context that i stated was from an observation of many people throughout the years as i have followed Yngwie, many people were annoyed by him because of his flashy & brash attitude & te fact that he knew & knows he is great, & at any turns he never stops to remind people of his accomplishments which brings me to what i wanted to mention awhile ago,

  • @MsLinx123 the main reason why people dislike him is because of his personality, he has quite an opinion of himself & famous for being egotistical, this has been documented for years. Which is why when i commented i id say that a reason why people dont like him is cause he can play pretty good & with his attitude accompaning such a talent many people feel negative vibes towards him.

  • @MsLinx123 There's a bit of a difference between disliking someone for their skill and disliking someone for their arrogance.

  • @Chairchuckee Well thats what it is, tell that to th folks that dont like him

  • @MsLinx123 What? No, I'm saying that if, as you suggest, it is Malmsteen's egotism that causes people to dislike him, then your claim that people only dislike him because he is good is FALSE. Egotism and ability are two different things, and disliking someone for one of them is NOT THE SAME as disliking them for the other.

  • @Chairchuckee So do you want a mickey mouse badge? Clap Hands, pat yourself on the back, click your heels & stomp your feet, find something constructive to do other tan Spamming everyone's inbox, this is such a small thing to even debate about, according to 37 other people they agree with me,how many for your again? O Case closed move on.

  • @MsLinx123 Wow really, appealing to a majority when your comment has been there for three months?

  • @Chairchuckee & you still commenting after three months

  • @MsLinx123 I looked at this video yesterday. I replied to a comment then without checking the date on it, because I perceived a flaw in the logic it laid claim to. Your subsequent comments have been similarly nonsense, like trying to claim 'case closed' based on an already faulty argument (Argumentum ad populum) which is further compounded by the fact that one comment has been there for three months longer in which to gather thumbs.

  • @Chairchuckee Yawn

  • I think this is right around the time Yngwie discovered Cheese Burgers... great cover tho

  • The guy on the drums in the video is Tommy Aldridge, he was a drummer for Whitesnake, among others. It isn't Anders Johansson.

  • All Haters - you just jealous. And to Classic Rock Purists, should Clapton have left "Crossroads" like it was? Finally, Yngwie is not a "metal-head," he wails - period. This tune happens to be my favorite rock song of all time, and I think they did a GREAT job with it. If you could play like that, you'd have an attitude too. I'm about half as good as he is, and twice as cocky.

  • @TheStevieGitah HE BUTCHERED IT

  • malmsteen rocks

  • The drummer is NOT 'Anders Johansson' ......It's Tommy Aldridge from Whitesnake.

  • Yngwie can't touch this!

  • In this video that is Tommy Aldridge on drums and Dana Strum on bass.

  • this is the problem when metalheads try 2 emulate proper 70s rock. they miss out the funky bits and keyboards are demoted 2 a functional "make up the numbers" role.

  • @teague67 metal is not emulating anithing... don´t be such an asshole.. heavy metal is good by itself.. this is a hard rocking version of a good song...

i like AOR and i like heavy metal, and im not as deaf as you to compare them... they are two separate genres... period.

  • haha he's so cocky

  • @flashlight067 When you're as beast as Malmsteen...you're allowed to be a cocky asshole.

  • wow, he really unleashed the fucking fury on that song, didn't he? Unfortunately.

  • does jef looks like Mark Boals here, or is it just me ?

  • @DraxGr HAHA true!

  • nice

  • Yngwie totally overplayed the song, and the neo-classical feel of the solo doesn't fit at all.

  • the singer didn reach the high note cuz malmsteen didnt want him to

  • Vem sjunger?? är det Leven?

  • @flowerlower005 Nix det är Jeff Scot Soto som sjunger denna :)

  • .40 OMG, quitet the guitar solo, huh? Great cover of this classic by a band I'm not too familiar with -- oh, well, that's what Google's for!

  • Drums - Tommy Aldridge but not Anders Johansson

  • Comment removed

  • Amazing!!!

  • Extremely AWESOME guitarist! Just amazing!

  • where is JSS in this video??

  • Yngwie's fast but he does the same thing in every single song. If it's a cover, you get a recognisable riff, the start of the first verse, and then he seems to lose patience and hijacks the song with yet another random widdle-fest. I can't tap, sweep-pick pull, hammer or slide at 1/10 the speed you can, Yngwie, but at least I can play a song all the way through from intro to outro, with a solo that although never a

carbon copy of the original, sounds like it's part of the same song.

  • Yngwie's fast but he does the same thing in every single song. If it's a cover, you get a recognisable riff, the start of the first verse, and then he seems to lose patience and hijacks the song with yet another indistinguishable widdle-fest. I can't tap, sweep-pick pull, hammer or slide at 1/10 the speed you can, Yngwie, but at least I can play a song all the way through from intro to outro, with a solo that although never a carbon copy of the original, sounds like it's part of the same song.

  • @Dragonblaster1 EXACTLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • (Stage Director)

Okay Yngwie you're great at guitar, you're the best. Now will you PLEASE stop smelling your farts backstage? *sigh* V.V. Does it REALLY HAVE to be four minutes and twenty seconds long? The song is longer than that by far, we can't cut out that much. Aren't you just going to look like a poser? Yes yes Jesus does pose sometimes, but I'm pretty sure he DOESN'T take his penis out on stage. No. No I won't cut off my balls if It's not perfect. What? I'm Fired? *Sigh* Fuck You.

  • Great vocals

  • Would love to hear Yngwie do a straight up blues record like Gary Moore did.

  • just imagine this a band with yngwie, akira takasaki and herman li

  • @shanegx2009 Herman Li doesn't deserve to breathe the same air as Akira or Yngwie. His playing is sloppy and recorded at a slower pace then sped up in playback.

  • I enjoys Yngwies music. At times it can get repetitive. But I like Jeffs vocals too. This is a kick ass version of a great song. Kansas is a great band. :)

  • he is such a good guitarist but at the same time such a douche... his ego is greater than his guitar skills

  • OMFGWTFBBQ SUCH A GREAAAAAAAAT TONE /o/

    nice!
