whats even more disturbing to me is noone clapped when you landed ? The Dominicans always start the clap & then everyone joins in , so this was an entire plane load of tourists ?

Stayed at the Casa Marina Resort in Sosua - across the bay from the runway - about the same time as your vid. There were more than one missed approaches while we were there.

Possible that a plane entered runway, pilot spotted it and went for the go around. It happens all the time.

Judging by the part of the runway being shown I would guess that it was due to it being to high, resulting a quick loop around to land again. No big deal at all, usually common when you have a rookie pilot or faulty ATC.

I smell landing gear failure at 1st attempt reason being why the plane was too fast and too high

He's got 3000m (10.000ft) of runway to stop the plane, the high altitude was no problem (IMO), it was for the passengers comfort that they aborted the landing, so they didn't have to make a -3000fpm descent on final. I'm not familiar with this airport though, maybe he was way too high.

@defaultytuser Correct, he came too high and made a 360 turn on final. BUT the 360 turn is usually preformed when making a straight in approach. What happened here? The reason why he wasnt able to loose the altitude by extending the left downwind is because you are not allowed to fly more then 5 miles on that downing due to a mountain called "Isabel de Torres" that is very close to the shore. (ATC in DR)

Probably a bit too high... but i know peurto plata has very bad winds!! Especially during the night.. and its crazy because they warn when you when you land at night saying that you have to be prepapred.

neilpatel1 , called it right. I have landed at that airport numerous times and know the difficulties. As you fly adjacent to the runway, the pilot turned too soon and his altitude was too high

I live in the D.R. and being canadian,I am proud of our pilots. The puerto plata airport is one of the hardest airports to land in on the island because of the winds coming of the mountains and the sea breeze at the same time. good call on the pilots behalf.

Thank You JCVdude for this Video. I hope one day there would be flights from Canada to Santiago, Dom Rep. Something similar happened in 2006 from JFK, New York to Santiago the plane kinda overflew the runway and had to go around to land. Thank you for all your videos.
