I would take that cat in im an animal nurse seen this before i do agree this cat should not be in a shelter but a foster home it needs to be socialized again. I take my bites and scratches to its part of the job people this is what happens when you dont take care of your animals,abuse them or leave them for a stray. I hope this is a lesson cause i dont think this is funny is extremelly sad and i see it all the time whens it gonna end!

I deal with cats like this all the time. The proper term for an animal in this state of fear / anger is "fractious". I am not afraid to scruff a cat like this and tell her nose-to-nose where to get off. I take my lumps and scratches and like it. I've had kittens who act like this at first get adopted four weeks later.

And yes, many of them do eventually calm down and become totally adoptable. They need to be in foster homes with caring people, though, won't ever get better in a shelter.

My cat howled and hissed like this right after the vet did surgery on her and she was heavily sedated. If you look at its eyes, the pupils are totally dilated just like my cat's eyes were. Freaked me out big-time, because I couldn't believe it was my cat making that noise. Maybe that's not the case here, but it seems very similar.
