I read the book. It's amazing and I think it should be a required reading in every high school history class. The book doesn't explain the trends of the last 300 years that well (the conquest of Asia by Europeans which wasn't by germs), one of its weak points. But it explain the broad trends in human history very well and especially how unequalness started in the first place.

Diamond brutally exaggerates the importance of crop and overestimates the difficulty of adapting crops to other geographical regions. And he completely lacks an explanation for the development during the last 500-600 years which took place in northern europe with bad crops.

I read the book. It's amazing and I think it should be a required reading in every high school history class. The book doesn't explain the trends of the last 300 years that well (the conquest of Asia by Europeans which wasn't by germs), one of its weak points. But it explain the broad trends in human history very well and especially how unequalness started in the first place.

Diamond brutally exaggerates the importance of crop and overestimates the difficulty of adapting crops to other geographical regions. And he completely lacks an explanation for the development during the last 500-600 years which took place in northern europe with bad crops.

Oprah started a school in South Africa called the O W Leadership Academy for Girls and I think this entire documentary should be required viewing for the students as well as reading Diamond's book. supporting idea: a society is able to advance in technology when people who are not as bright can work on growing food while the more intellectual people work on more complicated projects. people can grow food enough for themselves and others by having a good crop, a good land, and good live stock.

The video said we had advanced technology, and it's why we did what we did, but you have to create that technology, and use the resources and figure out to make steel and iron from ore beneath the ground now don't you?
