Ughh...more ridiculousness. I quote, from the British Transport Police website, the following guidlelines: "Photography
You are allowed to take photographs on stations if it is for personal use." - which includes film. Carrying a copy of it may be of use, but it is totally unnecessary.
You're not allowed to take pictue, but could you do a painting? Wouldn't it be great to set p an easel and sit there dabbing away at the paper? Fuck em. If you can see it with your eyes without trespassing or putting people in danger, then you can film it.
Obviously, just because someone says you are not allowed to do something it does not make it so. Perhaps you could ask what authority they have to enfore their order or whether it is merely a request. I've noticed that sometimes these statements are worded as requests as in ...'the public are requested to not use photography' and then the staff take it that this means it's an order of some sort.
i had this problem not long ago in leeds rail station!! taking a photo of a broken down train & got approached by a station member who asked if i had permission to photo & then tried escorting me out the station...... bearing in mind id only been off the train i was on for 30 seconds!
Ok so if were not ment to take pic's or film then what are we suppose to do to document trains wither their steam diesel or electric :/ stupid women fuck off people have been doing that since the age of steam
Should've told her to look in Network rails rule book, it states that you are not allowed to use flash photography as it is distracting to drivers & staff, or take photo's of security equipment, otherwise it is ok. Failing that you should've snapped her instead. Theres always one, me & my kids got accused of delaying a train because the station guard thought we wanted to board the train, we'd been there 2 f.....g hours.

@HSTHoward whoops looked a lot like bromley south ( the stairs) never been sevenoaks not for 7 at least years when the slamdoor 421s,423s used to run the hastings
point them to the railway bylaws and ask them to point out to you where it mentions photography at all, Nowhere thats where :P Nothing in any law or bylaw prevents the taking of photographs on Stations.
There is not and never has been a railway Byelaw forbidding the taking of photographs on Network Rail. If in doubt check with British Transport Police. In future take the details of the staff member and report them, also video them and put them on You Tube. So long as you are doing it safely - no problem.
I do however understand that flash photography is forbidden by law on London Underground.
You still continue to take pictures even though you get in trouble again and still your at it Lol I've had the same problem you should get in touch with piccline he'll sought these people out!
Anti terrorism we have the same here in australia but it is a load of nonsence a number of us enthusiastscan get into yards and observation spots and never get asked
this stupid, i work for network rail, been a rail employee for 18 years, i like trains just as much as the next rail enthusiasts, if your stood on the platform not near the edge, and in a place of safety which is not going to endanger you, the traincrew, or others ie- your on the platform not causing no harm what the hell is wrong with this silly cow!, for future reference and to those like this gentleman who gets grief, get their name and station location and REPORT THEM!,
This scene is become more and more common all over britain it seems. What have station staff have against filming trains? And do they think they are the british Transport police against us? I was at Newport (s.wales) station going back a few months ago and they said I was too close to the sign ( I was 2ft behind the warning sign) and I said ok, I will get back, then they say don't get ratty despite I was polite just wish station staff had more regaurd for enthusiasts, we are not all law breakers
she can piss off i work for network rail she has reason what so ever to tell you not to film i hope she gets her arse fired if dont worry rail enthuisats you are allowed to take pictures and videos if they say this to your face tell them to piss off

Her even touching you without your consent WAS assault and you can press charges. She is NOT above the law, no employee at that (or any other station/airport/place of work is) unless they have securital contracts or are the Police themselves. Even then you still have rights.
Go to the National Rail site and download the Guidelines for rail enthusiasts. Print it out and take it with you. Rail photography IS permitted, regardless of what the jobsworths and tinpot dictators who work on the platforms might say.

I wonder how much superb footage of steam and underground trains would never had come into being, had amateurs been subject to the sad state of affairs we have to deal with today.
'Feduprailstaff' also makes a good point, but remember, vandals are dangerous so, if they want to glorify their work, I suggest you let them. It's better than getting assaulted or worse. If you do have to defend yourself, you will subject to assault charges too. In short, report a concern, but don't get involved.
To be fair HstHoward, staff are expected to be more vigilant, because we can have graffiti vandals that will come to film trains with damage on them and then glorify there work.
Whilst no official permission is needed, it is appreciated that you make staff aware of your presence and the reason you are there.
That way, it puts our minds at rest that you are there for genuine reasons and not for criminal purposes, like I've already described.
I dont know why taking a pic/shooting a video of a train in the station isn't allowed. What does she think were gonna do with it? Joy ride the train? Stick a home made bomb on it? FFS!!!
sign of the times when we cant even take photos in PUBLIC/Government owned property, therfore all of ours because we pay F**CKING TAX to pay for it and rail fares etc!!! Jeez.
i have had a few problems one at york and one at durham all nat ex staff they an be quite up there own arse some of em there is nothing in the railway bielaws that say you canot take a photo i quote

Shocking. Total cow with a stinking attitude. Really makes me laugh the way companies have trains going round covered in graffiti. They've just got no credibility doing this when the real troublemakers continue to strike.
I've been stopped on the odd occasion, three times at home ("No photos allowed"/"No filming in tunnels"/"I'm sure there's a ban on taking photos of trains") and once at Moorgate in London ("Nah, you can't take a photo."). These people need a serious rocket up their behinds!!!
I work for First (buses) and we have this "terrorism alert" staff training video, which goes out of its way NOT to incriminate our islamist "friends". Thing is, of all the suicide bombings or other terrorist atrocities in recent years, how many have been linked with Islam? Answer- ALL OF THEM!
These people need to go on a course to spot the difference between terrorist and train enthusiasts. Let's hope people learn to protect England with some common sense soon - looks like it's not happened yet!
What a waste of F**king space she is' she on a powertrip or what!! why don't she just go back to her washing up and Ironing!! one of the reasons why i can't get a job on there f**king manwomen!
Anyway you can type in station names on the net and get loads of pics of it. I don't see why a terrorits would want to blow up a ped, except greenpeace:-)
Something strange happened to me at Victoria the other week, I went to get the 508 turning move and as the VSOE was there I got some pics of that. When the 508 arrived the staff suddenly went "you can't film that!" and was trying to get me done for terrorism stuff, my mate was SET staff anyway so it stopped that. He had let me get the VSOE in the same platform but not a withdrawn unit, I thought it defied the point as you can't allow one thing but not another.
WTF? Did that member of the station staff ask you not allow to take photographs on that station platform I think you should write to Southern and make a complaint about that member like me it has happen to me before and it is getting out of hand with this anyway sod them
What a complete load of bollocks! And what an old trout she is. Im kinda glad that i dont do the rail enthusiast bit anymore in the UK if thats the shit you gota put up with. I feel kinda sorry for the younger generation coming up through though. Wish i was there with ya, I'd have pulled out my NR I.D and told her to fuck off!!
There is evidence at what this is doing, it is turning people away from the interest. To be honest its doing it to me as well, one day someone is gonna protest in big numbers and then its really gonna hit off.
Power crazy, I would like to see this stupidity challenged in a high court. It is quite legal, or was, to take a photograph in a public place and as far as i amaware a railwat station IS APUBLIC PLACE.
this is getting ott now, they could even start charging you for every time you take a bit of toilet paper of a roll , the nation is ruined with, dare i say, nob jocky's like that , i mean whats a camera guna do? chip the windscreen? well they forget they already do that with there face!
only no no`s are flash photography and standing within 1.75 metres of the platform edge. What a muppet.he should have read the networkrail/atoc guide to train enthusiasts
They do this under the terrorism legislation. Its a load of rubbish. I mean, any terrorist who really wants to blow up a train, building, where/what ever can find the info they need online. Failing that they'd just pick a random target.
..so its pointless to ban filming and photography imo.
personaly i would have recorded the full convo, asked for her details and resumed filming. i treat staff with the upmost respect, but when jobsworth morons like this come along, i will take it as far as possible (done it at Leeds twice, was the same bloke, he never learns lol)
fuck off u moody cow lol under what fucking law u cant stop us takeing pics and shareing them with the world.. hey if we werent alowed to record then why dont they stick notices upon the stations saying we aint allowed aye.?
This is one reason why i dont film that often at busy stations.Saying that At Canley station the other month when Tangmere came through The lady in charge at the station came rushing out to see it and was most gratefull when i gave her a copy of the clip. She even helped me by looking to see where a 37 charter was and told me how long i had to wait so top marks to her they aint all jobs worth.Keep up the good work mate
That is totally out of order !! What harm are you doing ? This country is getting worse by the day !! In a minute you wont be able to take a shit without being supervised and then they will want to tax you for it !! You keep on doing your train vids cos I for one enjoy watching them !!!!!
Ah but he had a camera! Are you really that naive? ALL us trainspotters are terrorists waiting for these companies to let their guard down then bam! we've started WW3. You're quite right mate - I've had a couple of incidents for being stood HOLDING A CAMERA. Now I have seen a fair amount of trespassing by youths and even vandalism when I've been at stations but there's never anyone there then to reprimand them is there. We're easy targets thats all.
we had a problem with c2c staff at upminster - but nowhere else - and ally pally staff in the ticket office gave us a reccommendation on where to get the best photo angles! im guessing thats sevenoaks or somewhere - but this terrorism thing - well surely everyone else sees the train every day so whats the bloody issue
that sucks. i ve never had any problem with any other toc. i see enthusiasts all the time on FGW run statons. and others ive havent had a problem. maybe she had a problem being filmed herself? the BTP (who have authority over TOC and NR) state you can film if you ask for permission and dont use flash and distract staff. shes a jobsworth. i would go back there again tommorow and film some more.
The British government is becoming increasingly authoritarian. No doubt this was done in the name of terrorism. The way you bring about change will be through the ballot box. I say 'bye bye NuLabour'.
Ughh...more ridiculousness. I quote, from the British Transport Police website, the following guidlelines: "Photography

Power crazy, I would like to see this stupidity challenged in a high court. It is quite legal, or was, to take a photograph in a public place and as far as i amaware a railwat station IS APUBLIC PLACE.
