Uh yeah I think the device you're looking for is called a light dependent resistor. Block the light and it changes the circuit to turn the light on.

No tutorial is needed just basic electronics - A sensor light has a light dependent resisitor in it - and this guy is covering it up-making it seem like night - thus it switches on - when he lets go - the sensor gets light and thinks it is day and switches off - it is just a garden light - no magic.
