  • I know it's been 3yrs ago but, how have your studies gone? Did you graduate from college? Do you work in a nursing home now or?

    I really loved your video

  • NURSING HOMES NEED TO BE SHUT DOWN

    END OF STORY

  • Ive worked for 36 years ,and the love I have for them is over the top..but now im accused of abuse by aging disabilities, because I didnt use my gate belt.and she fell with me,her family didnt want the gate belt on,and she hated it,I chose to have her confront,,and she got a hair line fracture, and now ,I got abuse on my file,,IM so sad, never go against policy,,

  • Good job on the video, thanks for sharing this.

  • This is definitely a sunject that needs to be brought to light, however, your video makes it seem as though EVERY nursing home is like this! I work in a nursing home (skilled level) as a nurse. I deeply care about my residents and will adamantly stand up for their rights when need be. People need to remember that although abuse does occur, there are hundreds more employees that truly care, that take the time to love, and strive to make their residents' experience a good one, every single day.

  • its a sad world we live in i have been a carer for over 12 years we are over WORKED and well under PAID dosent mean to say we take the job on to abuse vunreable adults its rewarding if u really do car

  • i work in care and i must say the care we give to our residents/service users is very good but i do have to point out that taking a photograph of an elderly person is actually against the law and as i am currently doing my diploma in health and social care. thinking of going in to care for the money i advise NOT to as its not very good you have to want JOB SATISFACTION to see a smile on a elderly persons face. that i am helping someone to be happy. that i am making someone life worth living .

  • It takes a very special person with gifts of caring and compassion to work in a nursing home! Thank you !

  • I'm so sorry, I wish I had the power to make positive changes. These are the issues that concern me in the world. Nursing home abuse, mental hospital abuse, mentally challenged abuse. Child abuse, there's just too much abuse in the world and not enough love. I've seen so much evil, and have experienced so much wrong, I am now sick as a result, I still pray..but wonder who listens. Hoping the ppl that can make a change take action. Blessings.

  • Nursing homes are the most regulated health facilities in the US, much more than hospitals. I know from personal experience, that work of nursing staff is very well monitored. Most residents in nursing homes are there thanks to the Merdiaid, and if the nursing home does not satisfy the very high standards, they will not receive the funding. I am not saying that there are no cases of abuse, but rest assured that nursing homes have are 100 times better and very well regulated.

  • @jackyrouge The industry polices itself...even the so-called best nursing homes are grossly understaffed,

the workers underpaid, and in some cases are even told to go home if they deem the staffing levels are too high; I know, I have worked in several of them. I have also worked in a rehab facility and realize that the system needs an overhaul. The CNA's work much too hard as do the nurses and as a result some become somewhat desensitized and callous.

  • My gran is 90 and in hospital. If she doesn't get better she'll have to go to a home. I hope she dies instead of going to a home because she's scared of going and her memory is so poor if she were to be abused we'd never find out. I just want my gran to go in dignity and although many might disagree with me or think me cruel for thinking that way I think it's only fair :( because she'd will herself to death and is currently depressed now with poor care in an elderly ward.

  • This video is so ignorant and narrow-minded it blows my mind.

  • I am doing an argumentative essay on how nursing homes should be the last option for the elderly for both phsycal and emotional neglect...I was wondering since you took this disability course..could you provide me with a couple of websites and resources that could help me wirte this essay. i would really appreciate it. Thank you!

  • Thanks again for everyones support, I think I am going to do another video because this is so close to my heart! Thank you again!

  • @Elphie1988

I would just like to say that not every home is like this, there is a huge campaign for 'Elder Abuse' and Dignity in Care, I am very proud to say that I myself am a 'Dignity Champion' and I treat the people I care for with the respect, dignity and kindness that they rightfully deserve as do the other staff who I work with. Everybody has the right to have their beliefs and wishes respected. I hope more people see how much it matters ..... One day we will all need care, so think!

  • @Elphie1988 Please show my videos I am in a nursing home, owned by the Seventh Day Adventists and it's awful here too.

  • @Elphie1988 I have a petition trying to change the law regarding nursing homes: can I add your video to my petition, please?

  • Same in the UK, believe me. One senior carer I had the gross misfortune to work with got away with all sorts of vile behaviour by dintt of her personal friendship with the manager. If she were a man I would have broke her fucking neck.

  • Think about if nursing home started to create an euthsania program like what happen under nazi germany t-4 program.

  • VERY GOOD VIDEO revealing lack of care and insight often displayed by under- trained and under-paid staff.

10 /10 for covering spectrum so well in short space.

  • there is abuse from homecare too ..... and hosps. i have worked at nursing homes for 20 plus yrs and today nursing homes are 100 % better . i still work at one and the residents are happy and they laugh and smile , the one i worked at in the 90s the residents didnt want to leave . but i have seen one i wouldnt put my dog in .

  • The elderly taken much less seriously than they should be. People laugh at them and brush them off, when they should be listening to themm

  • The problem is MUCH worse than even exposed in this EXCELLENT video.

We are all part of a holocaust in America, and I would NEVER use the word "holocaust" if that were not exactly what this is.

  • elphie write congress a letter b4 its too late

  • I work in an - on the whole - very happy home in the UK. But I somtimes think that carers are expected to protect these vulnerable people from life, which we can never do.

  • This is really touching. I decided to do one of my essays on this topic. WHile mpst are concerned with world hunger and the wars, they have no idea what is happening to our elderly that have fought to keep america what it is for us today! KUDOS Elphie!

  • Well thank you very much!

  • Abuse does happen in nursing homes and comes in different forms. While you did touch on a few of the reasons why abuse may happen, the bigger picture is very complicated and demands a constant push for improvements. Elphie, I hope that you are reporting to the appropriate oversight and enforcement agencies any abuse that you may be aware of. Even though they are not the overall answer, they are a good place to start. Remember you can file a complaint without revealing your identity.

  • Right, I know that it comes in other forms, like I said I have worked in a nursing home for five years, and I do report abuse. Again this was for a school project that was only alloud to be so long, so I had to go from on angle otherwise it would be a whole movie. lol, thank you so much for you comment!

  • this is one of the most poorly done and basic videos i have ever seen. the people who did this have no idea what they are talking about and should stop posting stuff on the internet if they know nothing

I give this video 0 stars!

  • WOW seriously, it a school project, that was for nothing but that! But let me tell you that I have worked in a nursing home for, hmmmmm, 5 years and I KNOW A LIL MORE THAN SOMETHING about the abuse that goes on. This is not meant to be amazing, just get a point across!!!! Your intitled to your opinion, but really you have no idea!

  • GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY

  • I lived in a nursing home at age 37 and was abused and neglected. I was there because I coudlnt' sit up without passing out and couldn't afford sitters.... I was very intelegent though, so I knew what was going on, especially with my roommate.

  • those aren't pressure sores at :53, they're stasis ulcers. people who take cheap pot shots at nursing homes should at least know what they're talking about.

  • Old people are to be cherished, not treated as 'work to be done' or a bloody nuisance!!!

  • @randomdave30 actually the family of the elder should instead take care of them themselves because it is the right thing to do, I mean for me our country(philippines) is known for having close family ties and nursing homes here are rather rare because we take care of our parents as a sign of gratitude and respect. Im so glad i didnt throw my mom or dad into some retirement home, instead im working my ass of just to help them and you know what? i do it cause its the right thing to do.

  • @TWENEER5

That is the right thing to do, that is so nice.

what happens to old people without family like a unmarried lady.

  • Thanks for all of the comments. I know it is very hard to see this kind of abuse in nursing homes, I worked in one for 3 years and still there , this abuse is there everyday! Thought it is easy to blame the caregivers for abuse, we must not let it anger us, but let it be the thing that makes us proactive in fighting abuse. Don't think what you can do to get even, God will take care of that, think of what you can do to HELP! Be an advocate for those who can not speak up Thank you, spread the word

  • you think you may have been violating hipaa laws with those photos?

  • What is truly sad, are those who leave comments on here claiming otherwise in defense of this treatment. There is NO defense for such inhumane treatment! I believe that those who defend this video are the ones we need to watch out for the most. Sad this is even an issue.

  • One day we will all grow old and need caring for, and I guess my prayer would be that we would die peacefully, rather than to live those fragile years through the abuse of under qualified, under educated idiots running the system!

  • My grandfather was in a nursing home here in St.louis,Mo. He received a black eye. I knew these things happened. I went to the head honcho and told her that if it happened again, I was gonna "clean house". I'm not an animal, but given the fact this man raised me from a boy, he was all I had..He deserved so much better..I would gladly beat the one who did it to him within inches of their life..prison be damned.

  • I am so sorry all you elder people that get abused or mistreated in a nursing home or anywhere on that matter but my step grandmother is in a nursing home she is dying from some cancer that they could of cut out but it was to late. She was in the hospital then transfered to a nursing home I believe they were keeping her sick, same thing happened to my grandmom.

  • No human being deserves to be abused no matter how he or she treated his/her own kids. By becoming ombudsmen we can monitor the nursing homes and prevent much of this abuse. Nursing homes learn that they have to do the right thing if they know someone is checking on them weekly!

  • Ever wonder if some "parents" deserve this abuse? And don't give me that "they gave you the gift of life" shit. Everyday my parents would treat us like we were below them and would verbally/physically abuse us. When the time comes, I'll make sure they die in one of those hell wholes. Saying every parent is loving and compassionate is like saying every person is a saint, yet here we are with rapists and dead children.

  • i work in a nursing home and the people sitting all alone with no visitors...sometimes there is a good reason for it. old age doesn't induct a person into sainthood.

  • this is what makes me want to be a nurse even more...i want to change this

  • Oww, even more interesting... Gee dont know what to say.. my Mom just got out from under chemical restraints in a nursing home. The cold turkey method they used nearly killed her, but she lived thru it, has amnesia of the events but is back. She just would not turn into a veggie as was the intention i believe, so by cold turkey they went for the heart, I believe. She went into Rehab 7-08 for pnumonia, got MRSA and has never gotten out, only trips to hospital for long stays, Now has new Dr.

  • YEah i work in a nursing home and when they get MRSA not to many get to go home. I am very sorry to hear that about your mom, I will pray for her.

  • woW

  • Wow, thats interesting! lol: )

  • Oh your welcome!! Anytime, it is important to take care of the people who have nothing left, because we are their advocates!!!
