i've got the base board game but i think it lacks depth...it's a great game and one of my favourites but i feel like there could be way more options...
I bought it last week and I've already played it like 10 times... I think the game is very balanced! I can't wait for an expansion... Or a sequel... Something like: "The Peloponissos" :D
Everything that has to do with Greek History and Mythology... I believe that it's very intresting for board games!!!
@authentictikitang: I agree that in Greek the name is pronounced “Kick–Lad- Ease”, but in English it's pronounced “Sick-lads”. Just go to the free dictionary and look for yourself
@LondonEochaid: My friend, I followed your advice and went to The Free Dictionary (.com) and typed in "Cyclades". There is an audio-clip that allows you to hear the pronunciation. It is in fact "Sick-La-Deez". Check it out.
@authentictikitang: both the audio clip and the phonetic retranscrption say it's "Sick-lads", although the greek-inspired "Kikladhes" form is pronounced "Kick-lad-ease". No offence, but the greek pronounciation did not inspire the English one (neither the double K nor the long EE were passed on).
This looks like an amazing game. The only thing I don't like is the exact set up for each game. I think when I play it, I'm going to use the Risk rule and let people just claim 2 islands.
Looks like an interesting hybrid. I like to add some different mechanics to usual euro style. Nice touch with the not rounded coins, indeed. And in general this themes drives me. Antics, gods, Ares! :)) I see why it was so hot on BGG recently.
@steesefactor If you are in your master level, then you can and will be able to understand what a philosopher is. Many BA students do not understand what a philosopher is and does.
@steesefactor no. that is wrong. philosopher helps minds. all experience comes from mind. it is not for money profit, but tor true profit. those who are wise find bliss through truth.. but not for fools who toil over merits, staus and material objects.
I got a game of this in two weeks ago. I wasn't terribly impressed. The monsters added a bit too much chaos and there was a huge beat on the leader element. I'd like to play it again before I make a more final judgement and assign it a BGG rank.
what about the expansion????

Sounds interesting but, I am a little leery about playing games that won't end. I guess endless risk games have scarred me.

By the way, you pronounce "Cyclades" as "Sik-la-deez", not "Sci-claydz"
authentictikitang 1 year ago
@authentictikitang: Actually it's pronounced "sick - lads"
LondonEochaid 1 year ago
@LondonEochaid
No, it's categorically *not* "sick-lads" - the Greek word is: Κυκλάδες and you always pronounce the ε as "ee". Thus, "sick-la-deez".

Your reviews are great - how about doing them in higher resolution?

The initial hands slapping on the table, combined with "When I found out..." made me laugh out loud. Brilliant intro!

First of all, the Kraken is not Greek mythology;
Secondly I do not know. I was attracted to this game, but at Essen 2009 fall very quickly, I do not know why... Somebody told me that is flat.
However I never played it, so I will try it.

"What use are philosophers? Nothing!"
Wish someone had told me that before I entered University...
steesefactor 1 year ago 37
@steesefactor you only have to find another 3 philosophers :) Oh, or better 7 and then you will win "the game" ;)

@steesefactor
Yeah, useless... but build just four of them (8 coins, 2 turns with Athena) and you have a metropolis, half victory
