Socialised medicine doesn't dictate to you what doctor you can have, you can choose your surgery (provided there is more than one surgery where you live) and choose which doctor's you wish to see. There are two surgeries where I live, mine has about 6/7 GP's the other has more. I ask to book an appointment to see my doctor, I see my doctor. Easy as that.

Now he does say he wants to help Veterans - but he does not believe the VA can do it - cause it's government run.

Private healthcare is not cheaper, the US spends 16% of GDP on healthcare whereas Europe spends 8% of GDP
The reason private healthcare may seem more cost-effective is because of creative accounting; you don't take into consideration the fact that the private owners cut down on services to a minimum level, fire half their workforce and force the other half to work twice as hard for less pay under threat of unemployment or that huge bureacracies are needed to control & inspect private hospitals.

@Sconi71 The Charity Hospital of New Orleans, to which the Angry guy refers, was closed by during Hurricane Katrina. The hospital was run with State Funds (with a good deal of Federal money) the Governor decided not to reopen it. The main building was built under Roosevelt's New Deal with funding from the Federal Emergency Administration of Public Works (later called the Public Works Administration) .
If people only understood socialised medicine, and the good that it can bring, they would be in favour of it.
Having grown up in a country with a socialised medical system - the National Health Service - I can say that it is a great institution, loved by all. It protects the freedom of citizens by ensuring nobody lives in fear of their insurers or employers. All my life, I have recieved swift, quality healthcare.

@kbar8888 I said Charity Hospitals are primarily financed primarily by taxpayers - look it up yourself. Those who use Charity Hospitals are mostly the uninsured - they wait until they are very sick and go to the emergency room. These are the most expensive patients and we who pay insurance and taxes - subsidize them - Which is why US medical care is the most expensive yet medical outcomes are much lower then you would expect for the money.

I know St. Jude's Children's Hospital receives only a small amount of state or federal grant money. This is for participation in various research programs.

If you were rushed to the hospital and were handed a bill of say, $27,000, are you saying you have the cash ON HAND to pay it? Probably not. As such, you'd have to work out a payment plan with the hospital, paying a little each month (and you'd probably never get it fully paid off). The hospital then increases its rates to make up for the lost revenue and pass the cost on to the rest of us....no thanks.

Socialised medicine doesn't dictate to you what doctor you can have, you can choose your surgery (provided there is more than one surgery where you live) and choose which doctor's you wish to see. There are two surgeries where I live, mine has about 6/7 GP's the other has more. I ask to book an appointment to see my doctor, I see my doctor. Easy as that.

So he is opposed to the VA. Then he says - if a Veteran Cannot afford to pay for his own medical care - he's send them to a Charity Hospital rather then to the VA. Now he does say he wants to help Veterans - but he does not believe the VA can do it - cause it's government run.

Private healthcare is not cheaper, the US spends 16% of GDP on healthcare whereas Europe spends 8% of GDP
The reason private healthcare may seem more cost-effective is because of creative accounting; you don't take into consideration the fact that the private owners cut down on services to a minimum level, fire half their workforce and force the other half to work twice as hard for less pay under threat of unemployment or that huge bureacracies are needed to control & inspect private hospitals.

@Sconi71 The Charity Hospital of New Orleans, to which the Angry guy refers, was closed by during Hurricane Katrina. The hospital was run with State Funds (with a good deal of Federal money) the Governor decided not to reopen it. The main building was built under Roosevelt's New Deal with funding from the Federal Emergency Administration of Public Works (later called the Public Works Administration) .

Having grown up in a country with a socialised medical system - the National Health Service - I can say that it is a great institution, loved by all. It protects the freedom of citizens by ensuring nobody lives in fear of their insurers or employers. All my life, I have recieved swift, quality healthcare.

Those who use Charity Hospitals are mostly the uninsured - they wait until they are very sick and go to the emergency room. These are the most expensive patients and we who pay insurance and taxes - subsidize them - Which is why US medical care is the most expensive yet medical outcomes are much lower then you would expect for the money.

I know St. Jude's Children's Hospital receives only a small amount of state or federal grant money. This is for participation in various research programs.
The difference between Veterans and charity cases, is Veterans earned their healthcare.

When that happens, if you don't have insurance coverage, and are thus unable to pay for your medical care, the rest of us end up paying for it thru higher insurance premiums and/or our tax dollars. Buy choosing not to take responsibility of buying insurance so you can afford to pay for your own health care, you are getting a free ride off of everyone else. THAT'S socialism.

If you were rushed to the hospital and were handed a bill of say, $27,000, are you saying you have the cash ON HAND to pay it? Probably not. As such, you'd have to work out a payment plan with the hospital, paying a little each month (and you'd probably never get it fully paid off). The hospital then increases its rates to make up for the lost revenue and pass the cost on to the rest of us....no thanks.
