This guy never gave a shit about trying to be thought of as "cool". His family raised him right apparently. Seems he was just being himself, and it shows. A great singer indeed.
@qbulb i am a bad person i guess. i do love country music though, and thats what this comment section is for. sorry i offended you i'll take down the comment. peace
@putdownan8dude ...Actually you are a very nice person. Most people tell me to f.. myself or to f....off. I tried to remove my comment too, since you were nice enough to remove yours but the remove part was missing. Sorry about that. Speaking of country music one of my most favorite singers is Merle Haggard. He has the greatest voice ever. Charley Pride is very good too.
@qbulb merle is awesome. i also love johnny paycheck just about more than anybody. he and merle were like brothers. if you haven't checked paycheck out i would suggest old violin as a good place to start. god bless you too
been a fan since I was a teenager (and sigh, that was a good while ago) I was listening to country when all my friends were into Elvis and Rock and Roll. LOL
His voice is so much fun to listen to as it is not grating and tiring. He seems so respectful to the back up singers as he faces them and acknowledges them.
Kris Kristofferson WROTE IT...Janis' version is the one that I think of most.Charley Pride brings his own take to it...Each to their own taste. I agree with you - there is no "best" version. It's just personal taste.
Why do people seem to think that there has to be a huge argument over who does the best version? I just like the song, whoever sings it. Janis and Charley's versions are both great, but for different reasons. Get over it man...
anyone saying Kristofferson did not write this song? he did, and many more, i'm sure he like all of the versions, considering, he profited from all of them
love you charlie

Charley is good, but the best version of this song is with Kris Kristofferson.
storerauen 1 year ago
@storerauen Ms. Joplin owns the best version by leaps and bounds. Glad Kris wrote it but Janis sang it like it was written to be sung.

Actually, Roger Miller, a songwriting buddy of Kris, was the first one to make this song a hit.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
This is probably the worst version of the song that I've come across.
Lad dad dada deedeee dada.
I don't think the banquet suit and orchestration quite fit the impression and mood that the lyrics of this great song are intended to convey.

Janis's version of this classic song is the Absolute Best. All the rest are country miles behind.Period.

Right up there with one of the earliest versions of the tune by Gordon Lightfoot, a couple years before Janis Joplin's recording.
