to the bhoy askin who is wearin number 3,its andy lynch-the man who scored the winnin goal against huns in 77 scots cup final.penalty!!!!courtesy ov my celtic wiki the sheffield bhoy
I was born in the old tenements across the road in london road opposite the wee school, the school is still there but the houses are well away. i also remember the disused railway line at the celtic end. I loved the old stadium yes it wasnt san siro or camp nou but when full to gunnels with celtic fans it really was a wee bit of paradise. Great upload mate.
I think that there's enough information there (players that some people will recognise, etc) for someone - with the help of text books - to pinpoint the exact date! Seems like it was filmed at the beginning or towards the end of the season
For example, does anyone recognise No.3? It may have been his only home game against Ayr Utd. Didn't Celtic usually wear hoops whilst playing Ayr?
This is brilliant. Great to see the what The Jungle looked like on video (and the old Park generally), the old matches always show the family stand so never see The Jungle in action (hear it though). For someone only 4 years old when the place had its last stand this kind of stuff is like gold dust to me. Cheers romolow.
Even though i was brought up to support Rangers i remember going to Celtic park every two weeks to watch the footie in the alud jungle end.You use to ask to get over the gates or the wall or walk in at hafetime to catch the rest of the game. One time my mate and i went and i forgot i had my Rangers top on (the cheap one they sold in the 70's with the wee 50p shape onit rather than R.F.C. lol)and this guy gave me a pie and said i fell sorry for you lol,ah! good auld day's.
To anyone with a brain..the prick using the name ''CFCIRISHNOTSCOTTISH ' is a Rangers fan doing his illeterate best to discredit Celtic. Dr Goebbles he ain't. Total wanker he is.
i wouldnt agree sorry m8 but most ppl i know struggle and strive to "always" get the money set by for there season ticket and most of them dont work ,but its just something thats got to be in the bag for the august kick off,and i still prefer the standing terraces although after the tradgedies we had way back i do agree safety comes 1st .
Thanks for this flashback. I could have only been two when this was filmed. I remember all the black buildings though. Startling levels of urban decay. 30 or 35 years ago, yet it's like another world.
Tremendous footage mate!!! If you've got anymore get it posted, bringing back many brilliant memories of the old ground and some great, great players.
Back in the jungle days not many families went. Most of the supporters were either guys with their mates or dads with their sons. It was very male dominated back then. Most people used to go and get pissed in the pub beforehand and all meet up inside the stadium with their mates. I remember sitting outside the London Road Tavern with my coke and crisps when my dad was in the pub.
i would of loved to be in the old celtic park but to yound at the time some change great to see it wonder if any one has the same of old croke park stadium in dublin
All though I agree that all seater stadiums impacted on the atmosphere I would not say that it is the main factor.
For example if you go to Parkhead on a good european night the atmosphere is still fantastic.
To me the biggest impact on the atmosphere has been more families going and football being too expensive for the average punter. That means that is more middle class people that go now and many of them are new to supporting the team so do not know what it is all about.
Super 8 cameras were quite small and light weight. A child could handle them with little difficulty. Good piece of kit to have before camcorders and the quality could quite good if you kept them in good nick. Much priceless footage has been shot by amateurs on 8mm over the years, the most famous being the JFK assassination.
Bold Boy, I'm being serious here. What do you mean by "all the mickey masons"? Are you referring to Celtic supporters who are member of the dirty brigade - also known as the masonic lodge?
Mickey masons was a term referring to the tims that had become a bit successful in business and then became a wee bit aloof to the rank and file hard core. Ironically, they used to frequent the jungle many years ago as you needed to pay an excess fee to get in there. Read the book 'Jungle tales.'
I always had a season book, but I stopped going for 2 years now. Mostly due to the new age 'Boo boys' and the ignorant bastards no gettin behind the team, leaving early, Faithful thru+thru???
Magic! Great memories, bring back the terraces and we'll get rid of all the prawn sandwich Mickey masons. I bought scarves from that old wummin,
I still have an old "tammie" that I bought for 30p from her. (minus the bauble now) I was disillussioned though when my
good pal Sean Sweeney told me he seen her selling outside Ibrox too! I thought then that we were all the same, and not one of us would even touch a blue scarf! Heehee. cheers for posting.
From the history books, possible dates for this game -
27/12/75 Celtic won 3-1
24/4/76 Celtic lost 1-2
18/12/76 Celtic won 3-0
27/2/77 1-1 (Scot Cup)
30/4/77 Celtic won 2-0
29/10/77 Celtic won 3-2
11/3/78 Celtic won 3-0
Celtic beat Ayr 5-2 on 21/8/74 (league cup)and 5-3 on 28/9/74 which is close to the 4-2 suggested by JimmyJimmy1965 but pre-dates Tommy Burns' debut on 19/4/75
Fantastic Stuff, Andy Lynch in the action, he ran the Hotel that I used to stay at in the early 1990's if I was up for a midweek game, was that Hugh Sproat in goal for Ayr? he was a right nutter!
Thanks so much for posting this. Incredibly evocative footage because it's not the telly but a wee laddie's view of the game. My first game at Parkhead was around this time and I remember the wee turquoise cars etc. Hard to tell but I thought I picked out Peter Latchford, Andy Lynch, Tommy Burns and obviously McGrain. I would be interested to know who else was in that team - maybe Ronnie Glavin? Alfie Conn? Johannes Edvalsson? Roddy MacDonald? Vic Davidson? Paul Wilson?
