It makes me sick to my stomach hearing the words of what this woman and her parents went through. This is why I would like to see the Second Amendment amended to only include less lethal weaponry.
You can vote to take my guns away, but then you have to vote to see who is coming to do it. Im locked and loaded. You will never get my guns while i still have my finger on the trigger!
The idiots in Washington D.C. are making a HUGE blunder here. Let's look at the situation: They are running us into the ground every which way, and THEN they want to alienate battle hardened veterans. The American people have GUNS, let me repeat, GUNS! Not smart to trifle with our rights! The federal government is going to try something really stupid sooner or later. Be ready.
We the People have RIGHTS. WE CREATED this government, and gave them PRIVILEGES. If that government oversteps its bounds, abuses it's PRIVILEGES, and/or is no longer the servant that the founders intended to preserve for posterity, then we have not only the RIGHT but the MORAL DUTY to take those PRIVILGES away, any time we have the courage to do so. Rights cannot be taken away, only violated, priviliges are revokable. Get Organized people.
THEY WANT TO TAKE OUR GUNS TO PROTECT THEMSELVES WHILE THEY JAM CRAPPY LAWS DOWN OUR THROATS!!!!Don't let them do that!Support the NRA and learn what real gun control is. It's hitting what you aim at, and being responsible gun owners. If they take the 2nd Amendment away, which one will be next?
I am trained and responsible. It is treasonous and irresponsible for them to try to take our guns. The Bill of rights is for the People not the States rights to from Militias, but the peoples right. This woman is right. Read Thomas Jefferson and see what he says about it. That is why we have a 2nd Amendment.
The Democrats keep trying to take our guns from us, even though they are telling us the terrorists are coming or already here. Who will protect America. The majority of our troops are in the Middle East. It will be up to you and me to do it. With what would the democrats like us to repel the invaders? A baseball bat? A potato masher? What. I will have my guns.
AMEN SUSANNA!!!!! The wicked who are in power got it handed back to them. Shame that they will never realize what our Second Amendement is all about. We keep our guns of any and all kinds regardless of what the federal or state governments say...
More guns = better civilian protection. Those 32 students that were killed at VA Tech died because THEY DID NOT HAVE GUNS.
That's a fact and you know it!
Gun control = more civilian deaths
Criminals don't care about gun control. Disarming the population leaves them unable to protect themselves. That why the US has the right to bear arms in their constitution.
Watch the ignorant comments Mr. Europe! The areas here where average citizens carry guns the most are the safest areas in the country. We have not yet traded our rights for a nanny government.
it wouldnt be like a shootout from an episode of heat. all it takes is some training to take the proper action. . look at it this way, there were maybe 60 kids in that classroom, as i understand. 50 or so of them were shot. i dont see how one of them with a gun could have made things worse, especially someone who knows what they are doing (ie, someone with training). its not crazy, it makes goddamn sense.
That's europe, this is america. just like drugs, we will probably never be able to stop the flow of guns into and out of this country, illegal or not, even if they are banned, they will still be here. Secondly, i too believe that maybe, just maybe if somebody had had a gun to fight back with in that classroom, 30+ innocent students wouldnt be dead. CCW holders are trained that after a threat is neutralized, the weapon goes back in the holster.
earlier this year the Virginia General Assembly failed to act on House Bill 1572. This bill would have allowed college students and employees to carry handguns on campus --- with appropriate permits, of course. It died in subcommittee. Larry Hincker, a spokesman for Virginia Tech, the site of today's carnage, said "I'm sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly's actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus."
WOW. She gets it! Even after her awful ordeal she still gets it! I wish more people did. I agree with her 100%. I bet a lot of those people would still be alive today if one of them had a legal permitted handgun. I bet the bad guy didn't have a legal gun, but gun laws only affect lawful citizens.
You are so goddamned stupid Chingon. That is exactly what the second amendment is for. Why don't you read the constitution a little bit and brush up on American history.
A GENIUS AUSSIE WROTE: "If guns made people safer, then the US would have the lowest violent crime rate of any developed country in the world - which it doesn't."
Hello Einstein! Ponder THIS FACT: The parts of America with the lowest crime rates also have the MOST LAX gun laws.
Comversely, the highest crime areas of the USA always have the STRICTEST gun laws.
Fancy that!
Aussies shouldn't pontificate on American firearm laws. Take care of your own problems "down undah."
especially considering how much the violent crime rate in australia has risen since banning the private ownership of handguns, more rapes, more assaults, more muggings, more everything
That young lady was right on the money! Her last statement was one that should be repeated to those in office. The 2nd Ammendment was written so the PEOPLE of this nation would have the strength to defend themselves against ALL enemies, foreign and domestic. They had, after all, just fought a war against the former (and corrupt) government.
She had a pistol in her car but was afraid to carry it with her for fear of restrictive gun laws while a murderous criminal madman had no such respect for the law and felt just dandy bringin his illegally purchased gun inside and killing everyone in the cafeteria!
Yes Americans and all law abiding people should have the right to carry firearms for protection. When this right is taken away crime will sky rocket, look at the UK and Australia.
that's probably because your nation isn't so divided. In America, you have republicans, democrats, liberals, conservatives, the NAACP, the KKK, Neo-nazis, celebrate diversity, black panthers, etc. Alot of minorities identify themselves by their skin color instead of their character. There is a lot racism in America that is perpetuated by by groups who focus on the differences of Americans instead of our similarities.
The world would be a better place if everyone had at least one bullet to share. Who the frak is going to mess with some carrying a gun on their hip? Shootouts were very rare in the old west, but they're far more common now that hardly anyone is armed.
the ideal situation is there are no guns whatsoever, but that's impossible. Criminals aren't going to follow the law, and if they know everyone is capable of defending themselves, they're less likely to do something stupid.
Question though, in Australia, do they have concealed weapons license? Because that's the only reason I can come up with for not living there.
I'm pretty sure only police, feds and military are allowed to carry concealed fire-arms.
I don't know a whole lot about our gun laws here - primarily because most people only own guns for recreational shooting or work purposes (farming, game shooting).
There is a black market for hand guns, but you need a licence to buy ammunition too so much of the time gangs use them just for show. They'd be lucky to have a full magazine.
im sorry we as americans are not "gun crazy" we understand that fear of weapons is a sign of immaturity(so said Sigmund Freud) but yes i do agree a person should not be allowed to carry a "assault rifle"(which is a generic term)while going shopping
She is not saying we need more guns, she is saying people who can qualify to carry a concealed weapon if allowed would be able to defend themselves and other when things like this happen.
You would have less gun crime in the US by preventing stolen weapons. If the government would take the money they waste and buy every gun owner a gun safe the US would be a safer place.
In California a Ruger 10/22 rifle is classified as an assault weapon. It is a semi automatic 22 caliber rifle. Fully automatic weapons are only legal here if you have a class 3 license and only in a hand full of states.
Hardly anyone carries concealed. New york and Los Angeles have the highest crime rates in America and the laws to get a concealed firearm are so strict, it's near impossible. Florida made the laws far more lax and it became much easier. Crime went way down.
And it is the law of mutually assured destruction. Works with nuclear weapons, works with small arms.
World is a scary place. Humans are animals after all, and many humans give into their animalism, hence violent crimes.
Carrying concealed is a "better safe than sorry" tactic. Crime is pretty bad in America for several reasons. A.) Guns have been painted as the cause of problems, B.) Lawyers, C.) political correctness, and D.) the divided nature of most Americans...
The point I should make is that I'm completely cool with people owning bolt action rifles or even revolvers.
But when it comes down to small, semi automatic pistols and fully automatic rifles with removable magazines... I don't think that should be allowed.
Yeah sure you might have to defend yourself from a mob like this woman said - but the mob wasn't attacking the man - it was trying to steal his belongings.
I don't think anyones belongings are worth a persons life.
Well how do you know what a thief wants when they enter your house? Do they want to hurt you or do they want your stuff? How do you know for sure? I personally would yell at the intruder that I'm armed and if they come upstairs they're dead.
I agree with you on the rifles and revolvers, but semi-auto handguns are okay in my book, the difference is simply load time and perhaps one or two more rounds in the chamber. Assault rifles should be hard as hell to get, but not impossible.
What do you consider an assault rifle? How is the WWII semi-auto M1 Garand NOT and assault rifle when the semi-auto AK-47 IS considered an assault rifle? Persoanlly I don't think that either are assault weapons. An assault rifle should have to be fully automatic to be an "Assault" weapon. And, with the NFA laws, fully automatic weapons are hard as hell to get and more expensive that any crook could afford legally.
Fully automatic weapons ARE HEAVILY regulated in this country. Look up the NFA laws. No fully automatic weapon that was produced after 1986 has been allowed to be sold LEGALLY to a non-law enforcement or gavt person.
So are you saying that semi-auto rifles with detachable magazines should be illegal? As I posted before... the WWII US M1 Garand has an 8 round internal magazine. Is that OK to own by your standards? I guess it is since the US Govt sells them DIRECTLY to citizens through the CMP program.
You can kill just as many people with bolt action rifles and revolver. The speed champions in most shooting contest use revolvers. You can reload a revolver pretty fast with a speed loader. A lot of sniper rifles are bolt action.
The problem "If guns made people safer, then the US would have the lowest violent crime rate of any developed country in the world - which it doesn't." is that if you have to leave you gun at home you never have t when you need it.
The police can not be every where, nor can they protect everyone. As US citizens we should have the right to protect ourselves. When it comes right down to it, you are the only one who can defend yourself. I advocate that every should get a firearm and CCW if they have the legal right.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin.

Well I would define an assault rifle as anything with a fully automatic fire mode and a removable magazine.
This womans logic is rediculous: "Lets prevent gun violence by having more guns!"
Legally or illegal purchased, people still go nuts, people still crack.
Plus, most guns that are illegally purchased are guns that have been stolen from people who legally purchased them.

I think that guns just aren't in the Australian pysche.
The chances of me getting shot by a gun in Australia are next to nothing unless I piss off a farmer or try to kill someone when police are around.
Taking the view: "If everyone has a gun we'll all be safer." is like mutually assured destruction.
If guns made people safer, then the US would have the lowest violent crime rate of any developed country in the world - which it doesn't.
MikeT2005 5 years ago

ColonelSheppard 5 years ago
Yeah spot on... but that's not a good reason for everyone to have nukes is it now? :p
The way I see it, I think I would prefer laws which require the weapon to be holstered visible, not concealed.
If someone is entering my home with a gun I want to know. And I want to see them remove all the ammunition from it before they enter my house.
Mistakes happen.
MikeT2005 5 years ago
Very good point, mate. I agree about weapons being visible.
And I would also have a gun check at my door before anyone comes in.
ColonelSheppard 5 years ago
Kind of a sad world we live in when you need a gun check at your door. LOL.
I mean if the person is a recreational shooter or something you could understand it, but that probably wouldn't be holstered on their person.
But when people need to carry firearms for self defence it's kinda scary.
