@ssam00 West to what?? There is no East Bengal but Bangladesh. For India it is Bengal, for Bengalis it is West Bengal. We are part of India hence Bengal because Bangladesh is a separate country.

@fcgfgcfg I think the rationale behind keeping the "Pashchim" part was to recognize (and remember) the fact that this is not "Bengal", only a part of it. It's more of a sentimental issue especially for many East Bengal migrants who were driven out of their homeland. To name our state as Bengal/ Bangla/ Bongobhoomi etc will be equivalent to forgetting that chapter of our history.
