  • Be aware folks, that IRN's at 3 months are a very different bird from an IRN whose 8 months plus in age. Females being A LOT more "territorial" about there cage and being handled. This particularly species IMO has to be handled a certain way. As opposed to other species of Psittacus that relish cuddling and overall handling. It's very different from species to species and totally dependent on the birds individual behavior. But as far as IRN's go there behavior is quite similar as a whole.

  • However, once he's stepped up onto my finger if i cup my hand or kiss him he's ok but still a bit nervous at times. I've been in the avian field for nearly 30yrs now with both wild & domestic experience. And from the folks i've talked with who own this breed of bird it's just the nature of IRN's not liking being touched. He certainly talks up a storm though....lol

  • I have a GCC or Green-Cheek Conure and an IRN Indian Ringneck. Kiwi my GCC LOVES attention like this, and has picked up a lot of words from Keiko my IRN. However, Keiko is afraid of hands unfortunately. He will come out of his cage on his own, and only step-up once he's landed safely to the floor.

  • Beautiful ;)

  • my ring neck is 2months old

    he's name is Rio

myne is a rare kinde mix is got a yellow head and a green and yellow body!=]

    but yours is really cute!=]

  • My baby ringnecks are 3 months old now, they are like 2 peas in a pod, whatever one does they other follows

  • I saw these birds when I went on Safari in Sri Lanka. Our guide said some of them said hello in Sri Lankan :)

  • In India I always get a sight of these parrots on my terrace or flying

  • Dont touch his back, only scratch his head. Parrots dont like if their back is touched.

  • @Prashmash Not all parrots hate their backs being touched. This one obviously likes it, and mine loves a good back rub. It scratches itches they can't easily reach themselves.

And the parrot is a boy, he's just a baby.

  • Are U sure he/she is a boy? cause He/she doesn't have a ring.

  • @Prashmash You usually can't tell what gender they are until they're about 2 years old (that's when the ring will be more obvious if it's a dude)

  • @redfrenchgirl Sometimes takes up to 3yrs. My IRN Keiko's collar is just barely coming in after a year and a half.

  • is it hard to breed ringnecks?

  • that parrot a female one? how do u tell if it is a male or female?

  • They're so cute at that age!

  • Pommy...

  • lol red neck can be offence in some english countries!!! :D :D :D

  • NICE bird

  • when i tried to pet my bird he would bite me xD

  • Very beautiful bird. Looks like you may get to have fun teaching him tricks. If you talk to him enough you will be able to get him to talk back.

  • Lolll she looks soooo sleepy haha... I put my ringneck to sleep by patting her too.. then again i'm patting her now but she just wants attention..

  • how long dp tehey ussualy live

  • @SuperRehank they can live for around 25 years if taken care of (pellet and vege fruit diet) but it has ben recorded that an Indian Ringneck lived 50 years!

  • Ahhhhhhhhh he's almost falling to sleep. Gotta love them :) :)

  • lovely bird ...i also have a few of them (i call them my kids & treat them as kids). they are very loving & allow touching (they even kiss). they are show off & like to show their skills of talking & dancing.

  • Rubbing a mature bird's body (beyond the back of their head) is considered like a sexual gesture and could make him sexually frustrated and have behavioral problems.

  • @drakeltheryuujin not if the bird is trained right. Do your homework sweetie :)

  • @Rebeccas7Suns Note the use of the word "could". Just putting the information out there. I've been a bird owner most of my life, and haven't had any issues with my birds, nor any one else's that I've handled. No need to be a smart ass, sweetie. :)

  • it is good i have the same bird and he is 3 moths old

  • I HAVE ONE. But it is blue. so rarer and more expensive around £100 mines worth.

  • do that fly? before when that is 3 months?

  • boy? that has no ring!

  • @danieluyanguren the ring doesnt show until they at atleast 1.

  • @danieluyanguren the ring doesnt show until theyre a little bit older. usually after the 2nd molt

  • I stay in india and we have a bunch (15-20 of these wild parrots everyday) on Banyan tree in front of our house! They love banyan tree fruits (red in color) like anything. They also visit our balcony and perch on the box grill surrounding windows when no one is in the room!

  • who calls a bird gypsy ?!?!? WTF!!!

  • That is a girl!! Not a boy! Good thing the name you chose works for a girl!

  • @twirrlytoez how do you know what the sex is? the ring does not show until a couple of years. did you DNA the bird. idiot

  • @jaydeeds10 Is name calling really necessary? What are you, 12?

  • @twirrlytoez it is idiots like you that perpetuate stupidity in the world and i have made it my business to point out the morons of the world. because if i don't who will?

  • @jaydeeds10 May I point you to a helpful article? It's called "The 5 Saddest Things People Do to Look Smart", on Cracked.com. I'm sure you'll find #1 especially poignant.

  • Cuteness attack!

  • He loikes that.

  • This is a girl. No black ring around the neck=Boy

  • @yanikwilliams They actually don't develop the ring until they're a couple years old, so it's very possible that this bird is a male :]

  • Don't male ringnecks have the black ring? And females dont?

Are you mistaken your GIRL for a boy?

  • @hurricanebrendaa actually when their younger its not their i comes when their older

  • why is yer bird so inactive? :o

  • i just wonder how come the bird is letting you to touch him/her huh?! is he ill or wat or maybe very well trained i guess :P

    anyways really cute bird :)

  • Hi when I get her she was just a baby and had been handreared so was used to being touched.

And thanks she is a cutey

  • @skaterkhan We raised one when 2 months, but trust me you can do it if you know how to ....

Lots of people kill them by feeding too much or not feeding enough

  • @skaterkhan

    doesn't look sick to me!

you can tell he is socialized because when he is stroked he gets that content look, and his eyes shut...that's sayiung, "I like this...more more more!'...

  • @skaterkhan You should see my ringneck 3 days after I got him or her it was climbing on my hand.. After a week it starting flying to me from its cage :)

  • @skaterkhan Um, because when birds are handled often they become tame and attached and very affectionate towards people.

  • @skaterkhan Parrots just like people need attention and cuddles to feel happy so once you earn their trust they usually want to be touched. My little Yoshi begs for cuddles all the time!

  • Your bird is gourgeous but the blue slate ones look awesome

  • @JamesPromIII Thanks.. James I know the blue ones are beautiful

  • @JamesPromIII That would be my Keiko....:)

  • i tink dats a girl i have a boy juz like her but he has a colorful ring of feathers around his neck

  • Good luck with him. Just spend some quality time (number of hours per day) with him, and he'll eventually bond to you.

  • is he watching harry potter

  • when you first bought him what did he do? was he scared?

  • He was a little bit frightened he has to bond with the person that is his owner.

Time & Patience will do it.

  • @themelissaduo she is a girl.

  • @bilaremix to bond get some acorn seeds try to feed it urself and make a trust :D

  • has he got his wings clipped

  • @liaamgooding No he hasn't but I suggest you get it done, professionally as it will help you and your bird.

It will stop the bird from flying into objects till he/she gets to know his surroundings.

  • @themelissaduo I got the wings of my birds clipped, but I regret it. They lost the ability of flight. They flapped their wings all day long, but couldn't achieve anything. I don't do that anymore because it is cruel to the animal.

  • i gota green ring neck and he is 13 weeks old he is the same color as yours and his name is charlie but he is scared of me i have had him 6 or 7 days how can i tame him ?

  • @liaamgooding Don't approach a new pet. ALWAYS, give a pet time to adjust to its environment first. Then build trust. By not doing things that scare it. Finally, after about 1 month, put some food in your hand, something that the parrot likes, and calmly, gently, and slowly put your hand in the cage. Hold still, be quiet, and wait for the reaction. If Charlie does something violent, like biting you, don't yell, or scare the bird. Try again another day. But if the bird... look at my next commet.

  • @liaamgooding READ MY OTHER COMMET FIRST!!!. Continued: If the bird starts eating from your hand, this will be the dawn of a lifelong friendship of you and it. After this experiment passes successfully, move on to more risky things, like letting your bird out of the cage, and trying to play with it, eventually, you will find and discover what your bird likes and hates, favors ad opposes, does and not does, and so on. Good luck.

  • זאת נקבה בכלל!!!

  • i have not long had my parrot and she looks verry deprest :( i dont know but i think its from spliting up with here brothers and sisters she looks in the mirror we hv got here and she makes a sad squeek noize realy quiet verry lovely parot she is about 1 month and a half could someboddy help by telling me wats wrong with here please?

  • @lee123chill

Hi, Has your parrot got a large enough cage? and plenty of toys?

What type of Parrot is she?

Birds can get bored and depressed if they haven't got any toys.

She is very young? Are you hand feeding her? So she is 6 weeks old?

She should still be on hand rearing formula, please say she is...

  • @lee123chill That happened to my baby bird. He was almost on the verge of death from stress and lonliness. But I got about $20 from my wallet, went to Petsmart, and I bought a budgie. Even though they are different species of parrots, they got along, played, and helped each other. In about a week, both birds were as jolly and happy as Santa. A budgie, commonly called a parakeet, can be purchased almost at any pet shop, & They don't cost too much, and they can get along with anyone, even a baby.

  • shit if i do that to my bird he will bite the shit out of me,

  • @MichoacanosChingones

Hi, Gypsy was only a baby when I was doing this, but she still lets me pet her very often.. You just have to get one from when they are a baby and a handraised one by a reputable breeder.

  • idk y mine still has gray feathers

  • @skate4life2206 Maybe it's going to be a grey Indian ringneck. There are different colours.

There are Yellows and greens and Whites and Greys.....and probably other colours too.

  • More views coming from Pakistan than USA, canada or rest of the world excluding australia. :)

  • Arent INDIAN ringnecks Blue..... green ones are pakistani

  • my indianring neck is 3 months according to the breeder but it is scared of me and my family and will do anything to run away =[ what can i do??

  • @joekickass2819

Hi You just have to spend alot of time with it to bond..

    It takes along time.

You can spend up to 30 mins a day just talking then eventually put some food on your hand or a special treat like corn on the cob they love that or apple.

It will eventually bond to you.. Good Luck

  • @themelissaduo Question, is your bird still biting, and would you recommend getting this kind of bird to be a pet?

  • @Mr291229

Hi, my ringneck only bites me if other people are around.

But by ourselves She is beautiful, and loves me to pet her.

They are great pets but try and get one that has been properly hand raised by a professional breeder.

  • No My ringneck does not bite me..

But if you are going to get one as a pet, buy one that has been hand reared properly by a professional breeder... Good Luck....

  • @joekickass2819 , ringnecks love fresh grapes, and i would suggest not trying to handle him at all until he will eat what you put down, or on top of his cage, then as he builds confidence that he is not your lunch but rather you are giving him food... he wont be as likely to be afraid for his life and bite because of it. next step would be to try and touch him or have your hand near him for a bit without him totally freaking out,, remove your hand for a brief period than do it again,,

  • @joekickass2819 and also when you go in to touch him at this step, when he does go to nip you (this may be difficult but it will work wonders) take the bite like you are on the top of the food chain, and let him know that it wont deter you from touching him or her, (only if he isnt totally freaking out but only going to bite or nip) it will work if you are gentle in the way you try this approach and not scared.

  • lol.. hes so cute

  • aww, he's huge for 3 months!!! What a pretty bird... I just got one and am working on taming him, he bites and is very afraid... any suggestions, everybody tells me something different!

  • @queendiva73 First of all you need to find out if the bird is interested in you in any way. If not... Sel him and get a tame one or a baby you can hand feed. If the bird dont find you interesting in any way, he probably wont get attached to you for a long time. But if its the only pet you have, then maybe its going to succeed anyway, because youre the only one there.

  • @guldemondje that makes no sense..... I want to know how to work with the bird, not sell him.... that's irresponsible... sell him untamed so he can get passed around... Feh...

  • @queendiva73 you could sell to an aviary. But if you want to keep him, put him in a cage so you can keep him near you all the time. Talking helps, they like the company. Feed him something he likes, then they come nearer without being forced to come near you and he wil trust you more. also cut the feathers (not the arm, you can search on google how to do that) so he cant fly away if you take him out. It helps the bird avantually to relax more and he gets more dependant on you since he cant fly.

  • @guldemondje that makes more sense...I have been holding him in a towel and put his cage by my seat in the living room, he does seem a lot less afraid... I clipped his wings a while back so he can just glide to the floor, not fly up...

  • @queendiva73

Just alot of time spent talking giving it special treats like corn on cob and apple.

  • i had pet many indian ringnecks.

they all were osum n very freindly.

Last one was my dear.i didnt buy it he came from somewhere into my fields i kept him few months and one day he flew away....god bless all birds and animals..

this baby parrot reminds me of him....

  • hi

um do you think i should get an indian ringneck? i am responsible. but the last bird i had was very aggressive and didn't even let me pet her

what do you think??? should i get one???

    help me please :(

  • Hi , knowing what I know now I would get a Quaker Parrot or a Cockatiel or a Rainbow Lorikeet rather than an Indian Ring Neck.

Some can be aggressive but if hand raised correctly can be a nice bird.

  • @janetp414 Hey, you should get a baby ringneck as young as possible so you can handfeed. They get very attached to you if you do that. Get one thats not older than 5 weeks. If it still gets aggressive the bird is really weird or something in its surroundings isnt right, but really most of the time you get a wonderfull pet by handfeeding them. If you don't have time to do that try getting one from a handfeeder who breeds at home and puts a lot of time into it.

  • hi.........

um should i get an indian ringneck? the last bird i had was very aggressive and didnt even let me pet her.

    please help me :(

  • @janetp414 i am also very responsible and patient with animals :)

  • forgive me, but your bird doesn't appear to be feeling well. Is he ok?

  • this was 18 months ago... And yes she was fine during the filming of this vid. she was tired...

    Thanks for your concerns.

But this bird is still happy and still very much loved..

  • @themelissaduo---- doesn't look sick looks content and happy to be rubbed

  • @skydvr38 Thanks.. She loves still getting a scratch...

  • Attention all viewers

You can get Indian ring neck parrots on the streets of India because you can find them anywhere in the country But don't buy them cause they are wild and can cause injuries

  • Hi You may be right about the streets of India .But Indian ringnecks are not wild if they are bred by the right people I have seen the most beautiful tame ringnecks from alot of different professional breeders.

This is Australia not India... That I live in.

Do not come on here telling people not to buy ringnecks because they are a beautiful bird and if treated and bred right they are as good a pet bird as any other. And no I do not breed ringnecks.

  • @canguy9 LOL i like how u try to warn ppl

  • hi ...

i bought my baby indian ringneck 4 days ago and for the 3 days it was fine lets me pet him and kiss him on his beck and steps up and the forth day he started to bite and its aggresive but it come and on ur hand and shoulder but it dosnt let u pet him and it bites when put ur finger afront of him or about to take him out of cage .... help me...

    plzzz

  • Hi, first let him come out of his/her cage by themselves, sometimes birds become very territorial when you put your hand in their cage.

Try petting him/her outside of the cage and never approach from the front.

Hope this helps, they take a while to tame. Ringnecks are a more aggressive bird than most. Just alot of time and patience. Good luck.

  • Hi, is it possible to train an older ringneck? I have one that's more than one year old now and she won't let me pet her.. any thoughts? (I got her a few months ago when she was already a bit old..)

  • Hi I do believe it is possible to train an older bird of any kind but it takes alot longer..

set a certain amount of time aside for you and your bird only take him/her to a quiet room and first just talk alot to him to bond with him.

This bond time is enormous and could take several months. If you want to after a while open his cage door let him fly around get to know your bird and when time is up you either put a really great favorite treat you know he will enter back in his cage for.

  • heyy themelissaduo, im asking u this because u seem to know what your talking about and im in a bit of a situation, i have had an indian ring neck for a while now and he is around 1 year 6 months of age, and during the days he is out in the backyard on a big swing i made for him and my 3 other cockatiels, and they have been great but about 2 hours ago my ring neck started chasing an cockatial and i went to grab him an he bit me for the first time, do u know why he did this coz hes not like that

  • Hi, Is the cockatiel he chased a new member of the group?

It could be that he wants to be leader of the flock and was chasing him for that reason.

Why he bit you was because he didn't want to be stopped from whatever he was going to do or doing to the cockatiel.

Be interested to know is it just the one cockatiel?

  • no i got all 4 birds around the same time and have had them for about 7 months now, everytime i put my hand out to him to pick him up since that time hi bit me he keeps trying to bite me but say i try to kiss him or just put my face near him hes ok, also once i pick him up and just hold onto him his fine, its just when i try to take him away from his area, maybe hes biting because 2 out of the 3 cockatiels bite, and he was chasing the one that bites the hardest, he only went after the one bird

  • Maybe this cockatiel has taught him to bite.

and maybe he himself has been bitten by this cockatiel the only way to maybe stop it is to seperate the biter from the rest.

maybe handling all of them more frequentley so they know biting is not worth it because you are still going to pet them and handle them no matter what. Birds only bite for a reason it's trying to work out that reason and fixing it. Hard work though, good luck..

  • Eventually place this special treat on your hand and offer but do not force Eventually the bird should come to you and your friendship is now stronger. Good luck...

  • ur 3 months old bird i behaving better then my 8 months old, its biting all the time -.-

  • Indian ringnecks need alot of time to bond with their owner . They can be naughty birds when they want to..

All I can say is alot of time spent with it everyday for months... Good luck...

  • so cute

  • beautiful bird you have :)

i hate it when people think they are soo smart and they are like "actually its a girl"

because hes still young you cant tell if its a boy or a girl.

so it could be a boy but its just not old enough to tell yet...

if you read the info on the side you would know that its too young to tell!

  • I know... Happens sometimes.

But Gypsy is now 2 years old and still has no ring..

So I am thinking she may be a girl after all.

Funny hey... She is still a cutie and loves a scratch.. Have u got a bird/parrot?

  • i have 2 alexandrines, 2 eclectus parrots 1 male and 1 female, one yellow IRN and 1 quaker parrot.

they are just the best pets, i love birds.

and gypsy is a really cool name :)

  • Thanks. Eclectus is what I am waiting to get.

    They are Awesome Parrots..

  • its not a pretty boy its a pretty girl. if its a male it has black around its neck. females dont have the black line

  • Actually they don't get a ring ( Black ring) till about 2 years old...

He/she was only 3 months old here.. I was just calling him boy..... I have heard that sometimes they don't get it till after 2..

  • But thanks for your reply....

  • ディクシーちゃん、眠いのね^^

  • its female

  • Very pretty bird...

  • than you for replying me.....i spend alot of time with him/her cause i have him/her in my room so am always talking to him her but i have only had him/her for a week today how long will it take for me get him to trust me

  • It could take weeks to 3-4 months depends how much time everyday you spend.

They will talk too, mine has only just started to talk he/she is 2 years now.

Believe me the more time you put in the more you will get out of the bird, be patient I know sometimes it may seem useless but one day you and your bird will be great together.

  • hi i was wondering if you could help me i got the 12 weeks old indian ringneck from the petshop how do i tame him or make it ok for me to go to his cage without him well it getting upset please help me

  • I have spent alot of time with My irn . Indian ring necks are the type of bird you have to spend everyday for as much time as possible to build trust and a bond. If you put in the time you will be rewarded. If your bird is only 12 weeks thats still young enough to tame, time and patience, but be warned irn's are a more aggressive bird than most and I have been told that you have to spend time everyday with them or they will go back to being wild again.

    Good luck...

  • When I first bought my irn I had it out the cage everday for an hour and I would play and scratch it and talk to it. Irn's get startled and pin their eyes when they are about to bite. Their bite is pretty painful, if you can get trust you will be fine.

They like quiet not too much noise when training.

    Hope this helps.

  • He's a SHE. its a pretty GIRL.. the one with the ring is the male

  • even though the ring doesn't come for ages. yeah it is a girl.

You can tell by the shape of head.

  • the ring come out after a couple of years dude thats still young you cant say what sex it is unless u make the dna

  • Yes you can only with Ringnecks Parkeets..:/ its a girl.

  • it's 9 MONTHS the full plumage doesn't come until 3 YEARS of age so it could be a boy

  • nobody can say what it is.. no before it perhaps get a ring .. or not

  • Breeders are very good at quessing. Mine said based on some of his characteristics you could tell it was a male. This was 15 years ago, so I forget the criteria.

  • Actually you may be wrong. You can only differenshade them by the ring when they are 1 year old and matured, at this age, it's only possible to tell their sex by DNA testing. But still a good point.

  • They don't get their rings for a while. It's only 3 months old, thus... no ring.

  • Mine waited till he was almost 3 years old to grow his ringed neck feathers. I had been calling him a pretty girl all those years, and now he's a girly bird. He's so prissy! I adore him anyway. He's 16 now.

  • it's still young, 9 months! You don't see the full plumage patterns until 3 YEARS of age! so it could be a boy!

  • its after 1or 2 yrs.

  • it looks kinda sick/ tired ! =(

  • He could be nervous or scared too especially if he is new to the family.

  • What a sweet baby!!

  • usually parrots dont like to be touchd above the head, its percieved as a threat, mine took some time but swaying her with talking and interacting (playing toys) and feeding, helps alot.. the relationship with my girl started it was rocky cause she was a rescue she hated to be pet, but i worked with her, talking to her giving her treats and eventually petting.. some birds loves to have the back of their head rubbed.but dont force the subject let him get comyfy- if u have any q's let me know :)

  • HI

i just rescued an indian ringneck from a negletful family shes banded (so pet store im guessing ) and very shy but still knows step up and no shes under a 2 yrs old maybe not even 1 but i since your was a rescue to i was wondering how you worked with him or her

  • alot of love and treats.. find her favorite treat - mine loves peanuts and sunflower seeds.. you can also take baby steps, walking closer raising your hand near her, making slow movements so she doesnt startle. Some birds are patient.. dont be afraid trust your animal and talk to her all the time.. that way she can get use to you.

  • Then ring grows at the age of 2 aprox. Some birds grow (reach maturity age)faster than others, just like humans.

I have an Indian Ringneck too! He/she is 1 year old and 1 month. He/she relies on me and we have a good relationship. But she/he doesn't like to be pet/touched like yours..

    Please, any suggestions?

PS: for example, if I put my hand above him/her and I want to touch him/her he opens the beak sometimes, and does not like it. Although we have a good relationship.

    Please, some help?

  • How log have you had the ringneck? what need to do is just spend more time with it like having it on your body hanging out while your talking on the phone and let it get used to you more before touching its head or petting it.

  • I've been having him/her for about 9 months. We really have a good relationship, but he does not like to be touched. I mean, I am with him her, and he she steps up, talks, I taught him her tricks, etc.etc. But I will insist more on him/her touching him every time.

    Thanks!

  • Your bird has to learn to trust you and bond to you.

When letting out of cage go about your normal routine i never approach to scratch from above the head always from the back or side but let him know you are going to do it just keep trying it can take months.. good luck.

  • thank you for your help i have one more question you said when you first bought yours you had him out the cage everyday for an hour was he tame when you bought him or did you have to tame him before you let him out the cage thank you themelissaduo

  • Hi, thats great you are starting to build a bond with your irn. Keep up the good work...

  • thanx for your help i now have my irn stepping up on my hand and eating from my hand as well thank you but he will not allow me to pet him i got him on the perch one day the next i had him eating out of my hands on my hand
