@a7x5631 unlocking the 4th core in a 720 raises temps a lot. but if its used as amd sells it, a triple core at stock speeds then heatsink works. recommend upgrade to a real one if u want to overclock.
or do what i do, "old hardware chelleges," lol, b4 i got the 940 (b4 the 720) i had some crappy p4 cause i sold my pc to pay some bills, it was kinda fun messing with it and push it's limits
oh I have the 790GX chipset from biostar its the TA790GX 128mb side port memory i have a video of my rig on my youtube page Im leaning more towards the triple core vs the dual core
I have the latest bios which is the 5/25/09. but from what im hearing even if you have the right set up its still a slim chance of unlockin the 4th or 2other cores on those cpu's thats why i was thinking about the 720 because of the extra core over the 550
oh okay I know for sure i want to up grade cpu im leaning more towards the triple core because of the extra core, btw I just installed my new cpu cooler the Xigmatek Dark Knight cooler
you made a good choice not listening to that guy. the x2's won't necessarily unlock 1 or even both of the other cores...neither will the x3. it's just a chance. since you cant exactly return cpu's (only exchange them for another of the same) you would of been stuck with a dual core. x3 is just as futureproof as x4, and it overclocks easier.
yup i got it a few weeks ago I couldnt unlock the 4th core but right now i dont care i currently have it overclocked to 3.1ghz on stock voltage and temps are good the lowest it idles to is 19c and the highest i seen it reach using a stress test was 31c but i do have after market cooler the xigmatek dark knight cooler, I want to push this cpu farther but im going to hold up because i need to get some type of mosfet cooler first the board is the Biostar TA790gx 128mb+
T_T, damn I wish unboxing some processors, and build my own system...did you buy this processor in newegg? why you didn't choose the Energy Efficient model... be green, use 705e model... and dont smoke
yes, it's not the cpu that allows a video card to run in crossfire but rather the motherboard. Just about any motherboard intel or amd made between 2 years ago and now can support crossfire.
To squeeze out more FPS a better CPU would be required. That's why the AMD 955, 965 and the kings of the cpu game, I7 920- 965 get the highest frame counts. You can also get more FPS if you overclock your the bus speed of your motherboard.
Hey tricccple are you making a complete new build or did you sell your old setup with your 4770 to build your new one or do you have everything still and just building a second rig.Anywho that tripple core can be unclocked to a x4 which is pretty kool but i think its a bit tricky.
Yeah you can unlock the 4th core on many of the PII's but I think you need a 750SB and the right BIOS too. I know a guy who has bought 3 PII x2 550 dual core's and unlocked the 2 extra cores and over clocked them to like 3.8GHZ. I'm like WHAT? I mean a 3.x GHZ quad for like $100 USD? Crazy!
u can use AM3 cpu on AM2+ motherboard as long as the motherboard have bios support for it, but u cannot use a AM2+ or AM2 CPU on a AM3 motherboard cause these old cpus don't support ddr3
OMG dude, not to be a troll but, quit smoking, seriously.

Why doesn't this one have the copper heat pipes?
a7x5631 2 years ago
@a7x5631 doesn't need one , at stock this chip doesn't get hot
tricccple 2 years ago
Strange since some of the x4's are 95 watts too and they come with the copper heat sink, oh well.

maybe time to come back? things are much cheaper nowadays

lol I would if the opportunity arose but i dunno when that would be.

I thinking about getting this cpu to upgrade from 5000+ do you think its worth it or should i go for the phenom II 550 dual core?
PT3005 2 years ago
it depends, most motherboard cannot unlock 4th core, so compare tri to dual, 720 is better buy
tricccple 2 years ago

mm
it's touch chooice
if u didn't update bios yet
u can consider the dual core, both can unloc kto quad

PT3005 2 years ago
i dunno about that cause a part of the purpose for the update is to fix the bug that cause acc to unlock cores
tricccple 2 years ago
oh okay I know for sure i want to up grade cpu im leaning more towards the triple core because of the extra core, btw I just installed my new cpu cooler the Xigmatek Dark Knight cooler
PT3005 2 years ago
They would perform similarly in games, but the 720 would perform better in multi-threaded apps and whatnot. I would go with the 720 if possible.
BigOleEric 2 years ago
Thanks, I Just ordered the 720 from newegg

yeah some boards didnt update their bios to fix that problem with the 4th core, and thse are the ones u want to get
tricccple 2 years ago
yeah its fine with me this cpu is doing a hell of a lot better job handling Win 7 64bit RTM than my athlon x2 5000+
PT3005 2 years ago
@tricccple hell no it has nothing to do with the mobo its actually the cpu itself, not all of then can be unlocked to 4...
