  • do they perm their hair or is it that they tease, its so....... bushy ahaha

  • @jetblackhair92 Polynesian women generally have very thick hair but since the invasion of the asian to Hawaii, it wouldn't surprise me if they've had to tease it or thicken it in some manner.

  • i was wondering if anyone knew the name of the chant he always chants in his performances?

  • Could anyone post the 2008 performance?? THANKS!

  • I really like this stunning ladies, stunning movements, weldone. I wonder who you are and what your doing now, Michael, Cape Town.

  • damn. this is crazy gooood! props ladies, i give you mad props!

  • AMAZING!!!!!

  • kala mai i meant the orange pua on the kumus lei :)

  • can someone tell me the name of the pua used in his leis?

    mahalo nui loa

  • @sillygoose92 the red and yellow pua??? those are LEHUA :)

  • is this similar to the male version?

  • @Debera Yes. Mele ma'i can be danced by either male or females.

  • @RKGOLF why thank you!

  • @bluevioletize auana is a more ornamentalized type of hula. and a kahiko is more of an ancient style of hula that has spritual meaning and story to it.

  • does anyone know how they did this year?

  • @KingBeets they didn't compete this year.

  • @sdolce :( thanks

  • okay, i noticed that some of the videos have kahiko or auana included in the title. Are they two types of hula dance or something else?

  • @bluevioletize kahiko = ancient hula. Usually danced without a smile, wearing lots of green ornamentation. Music is chanting and drum rhythm, no guiltars or anything like that. Hula Kahiko dances are for the gods and royalty. auana = modern hula. Dresses, flower leis, guitars, all that fun stuff :) Hula auana can be about pretty much anything. My class learned one about the sports people play!

  • They're unity is militant. So expressive: )

  • damn i wanna be hawaian

  • @lunahate you dont have to be hawaiian to love and live the culture. SOME People in hawaii say they are "hawaiian" but they dont do anything hawaiian, they just say they are but nothing more, they dont speak hawaiian, dance hawaiian, or even learn the hawaiian culture. Instead they only say what they are. They sit on the fence and watch whats going on inside. they need to get down and support their own culture. It is beautiful to love a culture that is not yours.

  • how do they all have such long hair!? so jealous... wish i had thick hair...

  • omg, this halau is amazing, their spirit and pride in their dance shined so strong, AMAZING,,, and their performance was so in sync and on point, it brought tears to my eyes, this is beautiful work!!!!

  • I admire the hawaiian people because of their great love for their culture.

  • this hula was my favorite for the girls kahiko!! sooooo sassy. you can tell that they had fun dancing this mele!

  • @hulaqte I know, & I bet you had an uber amazing time back bro, I soooooo hope to leave for spring break & summer

  • hahahah Made me blush listening to it XD

  • so awsome ... tnx !!

  • I gotta go back home :D I miss it sooooooooooo much

  • so both 2009 kahiko winners were about seduction right?

  • @evaekvall143 Not really about seduction. It's more celebrating the power of procreation and the hope the the royal line will continue.

  • thank you for working so hard to keep culture alive. Aloha

    Very Beautiful

  • Ha'u ha'u e! I can't stop watching this Kahiko

  • hawaiian chicks are hot!

  • it's performances like this that make me wish i could take hula.

    amazing job girls!

  • what is that large hour-glass shape instrument they're using called?

  • @junbug119 It's an "Ipu Heke" - a double gourd.

  • @MissMidoria Thanks! didn't realize it was actually 2 gourds.

  • Yes this is a Mele Ma'i. Its sensual. Hopefully you'd be smiling too. LOL

  • Not all mele ma'i require them to have a stone face, as you can see this halau took first place.

  • why are they smiling. they are supposed to have a stone face!

  • I Love this Halau

  • man i love all polynesian dance...and the similarities between all of our dances....

  • I like to strenghten my bloodline with 3.25-3.35. She seems to have a lot of fun, doing what she does. How nice to have a lot of ha'u ha'u e.

Usually I go for Kamuela, but this melee is so lively and so funny, it really deserved to win.

  • powerful stuff ...

  • I leʻa ka hula i ka hoʻopaʻa! Maikaʻi loa, hoʻomaikaʻi ia ʻoe e ke kumu!

  • Aia la... HULA...

Mahalo nui Na Mamo o Pu'uanahulu!

  • i loved their performance! expecially when they say ha'u e

  • beautiful!

  • Love this one :D so powerful!

  • Excelente, hermosa cultura!

  • what u know about kumu?...

  • kumu sonny ching

  • does anyone have their auana?

  • KITV has it.

  • Their chanting is on point! It does stand out and represents well of the time period and the enticing display of womenhood to try to gain the attention for "pro-creation"...Sexual prowlness? Well put, Well performed and Well placed. There is no second guessing what they want....Mahalo nui loa for posting Patick88!^_^!

  • I saw the MMF live on line, it was like 430 am (because im not in the US) and these girls come out...woooow i was amazed i loved the Mele and the Oli i loved the dance...when i heard "ha'ina hou"... i said what?! nooo please keep dancing i didn't want them to stop! it and i am very happy they won!

All the Halau did an amazing job the whole night was beautiful...

  • Chicken Skin, always Win !!! Awesome Hula

  • hana hou gurlzzz beautIful as ,

from ya maori sis .. aoteaRoa nz..

  • do you guys even undestand what they judge on? Through anyones eyes another halau may have been better, but it depends on what the judges see, if they can see that the halau understands the song and is proud, through technical stuff it all counts on the facial expression kahea and foot work. reasons why halaus didnt win first are unknown. so dont hate on other halaus PLEASE, its wrong just love the hula & keep trying.

  • and may i ask you why you feel this way? obviously you're bias and if you're from that halau, please dont just blast their name on here, if gives them a bad rep. these girls won first for a reason. too bad, so sad.

  • My hula sisters are so awesome.

    I LUV U GURLS!!!!!

    Alikz

  • impressive dancing i love it!!!!!!

  • E O Na Mamo O Pu'uanahulu.................nice
