  • i think the reason why in the scene when bride of the monster premieres and everyone is revolted by it is because it was made by ed wood. lets remember here, glen or glenda when it premiered was panned like crap so it would make sense for people to get angry when ed woods name comes up in the opening title sequence. because he made a shitty movie. this is all speculation.

  • Planet of the Apes 2001 will and always be Tim Burton's worst film. That was a piss on the legacy of the original

  • Tim Burton is an arty director but im a sucker for that, but i'd rather a Chris Nolan or David Fincher film any day

  • I think you're painting Burton with a very broad brush. I loved Fargo, but hate any other Coen Bros. film. I hated Beetlejuice. I LOVED Ed Wood, loved Ed Scissorhands and loved Alice in Wonderland. Also, you may not have noticed, but the second Indiana Jones film was horrible. It was only the third film redeems the trilogy. The second round of George Lucas's Star Wars films was disgracefully bad. NO DIRECTOR is a great director. It doesn't happen. It's a fantasy.

  • Also: Superman Returns was great

  • I think your reasons for hating Tim Burton are unreasonable.

  • @VenomShock If you mean well thought out and fair. Then you are correct. If my reasons are unreasonable you are simply incapable of acknowledging people not liking Tim Burton.

  • @blowshimselfupdude I am at perfectly capable of acknowledging that. He's not my favourite director either. Infact, Ed Wood (being my favourite film of all time) is the only Burton film that I feel I could put in a list of my favourite films. I agree, Planet of the Apes was shitty, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is also not one of his greatest.

That being said, I feel you are giving him an unfair shake. His Batman films were great, though I much prefer Nolan's films for his approach.

  • @blowshimselfupdude Tim Burton decided to make a film about the symbolism of Batman, while Nolan decided to make his films about the character himself. Nolan gets deeper into the themes and meaning of Batman, and further analyzes who he is, and why he does what he does. Tim Burton chose to showcase Batman as "Batman". He shrouded him in mystery, because he wanted Batman to remain an enigma, and force, rather than get into him too much.

  • @blowshimselfupdude Also, saying "He either plays Black shades against white, or uses bright, vibrant colours" is a bit of an unfair statement. That's merely a tool he uses to get across his film's look and design. He is much more of a visual director than a storyteller (another reason why the Batman films differ, Nolan is a storyteller). Whittling down Burton to those techniques is like saying that John Carpenter either uses disgusting effects, or eerie music to frighten/disgust you.

  • @blowshimselfupdude While those ARE things he does, there's so much more to why he does it, and so much more to how he makes his films, that that one mere oberservation is a wrong description.

  • @FireFistShikamaru

    I think anyone is...

  • I personnally like tim burton, but everyones entitled to there opinion. SO SHUT THE HELL UP EVERYONE

  • The mars attack trading is better and it has a better storyline to.

  • You hate Tim Burton's Batman. So you must love Chris Nolan Batman though right? Typical fanboy.. You lost me when you attempted to suggest Kevin Smith is a better director than Burton. Oh yeah and Superman Returns didn't suck either

    Apes-Mediocre

Mars Attacks-Good B movie (What it was supposed to be)

Beetlejuice-Fuckin Great (One of the better movies of the 80's)

Batman- Classic set the standard like Superman the movie did

Ed Wood- Great B movie (again what it was supposed to be)

  • What do you think of Big Fish? Despite some of the visuals, its a lot different than most of Burton's films.

  • I like about half of Tim Burtons and Kevin Smiths films. I think they are both overated and do same thing over and over again.

  • i like tim burton yeah he's had some stinkers, but he does have some great classics

  • well at least tim burton tries. I mean yeah he does the same stuff over and over again, but all michael bay does is look at something and says "will this make me money? okay"

  • i dont really like burton

    but this was great

  • the coen bros. movie you were talking about was "The Man Who Wasn't There"

  • It's hard to pin down my opinion of your videos. I often disagree with you but in this case I agree that Ed Wood is a good film but I also agree with darkomessiah. Half the review was just you talking about how much you hate Burton and if you don't like Burton that's fine. You're entitled to your opinion but don't waste half the video going on about stuff that you've talked about over and over and over again when you're supposed to be doing a review.

  • i understand you dont like tim burton. we all have our own certain tastes, which isnt to say that u hating tim burton is either right or wrong. but why the fuck should you spend half the fuckin video about him when you've probably already made it clear in previous videos? just say, "most of you already know i dont like tim burton, however..." then get to the review. cause the first five minutes of this damn thing is just unnecessary bitching and moaning. that being said, im glad u liked Ed Wood

  • Also it's probley really hard to make an ending for a movie like this cause there really isn't a happy way to end it he pretty much just keeps making crap for the rest of his life and I think they ended it the best they could

  • I have a friend like you, he likes Johnny but hates Tim. I am a personal lover of Tim, I won't go into why because I don't want to start a Whose right argument, but I always find my self enjoying his films. My friend loves the movies you liked by tim with the inclusion of Big Fish, IDK what You think of that movie. But I'm glad you like this movie cause it is probley my favorite movie of all time

  • Correction:

Tim Burton wrote The Nightmare Before Christmas and produced it.

Though we have polar opposite views on Tim Burton, him being one of my favorite directors, I'm glad that you liked Ed Wood. Both Burton and Depp were in top form and executed it very well. It is a great film.

  • No he didn't write it. He wrote a short story in highschool that the film was "based" on. But look at the credits he didn't write it. Just says story by

  • In the words of Ed Wood:

He planted the acorn that grew into the mighty oak.

He came up with the characters and outline for the story. You're probably thinking of the person who wrote the screenplay. True both contributed to the story, but it's not like Burton just slapped his name onto the film. If it weren't for him, I doubt it would be in existence. He did come up with it.

And I hope you don't think I'm trying to pick a fight with you, and I'm sorry if you think I am.

  • @blowshimselfupdude

Please forgive me, Eric, but all I saw in this video was immaturity.

From the way you projected your opinion, you suggest that because you hate the burton Batman movies, therefore all Burton's movies must suck. Thats the way you sounded.

  • This is my #1 favorite movie of all time!

  • Burton is my favorite director, but I don't want to bash you because you raised excellent points. Even as a fan I admit that sometimes Burton overdoes it a little bit and he lacks the story quality that most other directors have. But you see most of the reasons come from his love of silent and expressionist cinema, where everything is mostly suggested and designed to express a certain feeling. Being an artist myself, I can see why he likes to use most of the same things more than once.

  • Ed Wood is one of my favorite movies of all time. Because of this movie I want to be a film director. I really like most of Burtons movies, but I really, really, really HATE "Planet of the Apes (2001)".

  • ohhh and if you going to review that you dont say how it is going to end

thats not a reviwe its a giant spoiler

  • tim burton is one of the best directors of all time

this thing you are talking about in 2:45-3:10 is called style and ´´art´´ form something not many directors have

batman 89 was better than dark knight in my opinion

and burton did both write and co-direct nightmare before christmas

    the man is a genius

  • Have you seen Frankenweenie?

  • I also hate tim burton, but 'Ed Wood' is up in my top ten.

  • that dosnt make any sense

  • how so? I hate Tim Burton as a person, not as a director.

  • really???? why ? what do you have against the man??? what did he do to you?....or most importandly do you know him at all

    why do you hate him?

  • as a child, he raped my face. Upon finishing he threw me to the ground and spat on my face, shouting ''yeah bitch i fucking own you..now where's your mother?''

  • i am the exact same way.

  • Ok firstly having one flob doesn't mean anything. Adn secondly from a director stand point it was his best film. You can really see how far he's come since Clerks as a director.

Zack and Miri's problem was the script. It may be Smith's worse but it's 10 times better then most comedies that come out now adays.

  • how can you hate burton? his movies are awsome, shore planet of the apes was a LITTLE bit bad but who gives a shit, he rocks

  • Because he has no talent and likes to destroy source material.

  • you are my friend.

love Ed Wood, hate Tim Burton

  • Nice,

    I'm not anti-Burton but I am pro-Depp

I think Burton is a better designer than director. Stuff looks cool but that's it.

Maybe you could do a Sweeney Todd review, or do a Kevin Smith movie review.

  • Yeah Burton shouldn't be director.

I can't doa sweeny todd review becaus eI haven't seen it. Tho I may see the original play.

Kevin Smith is the only thing I consider myself a fanboy of. So the reviews would be extremley biased.

  • You can see the original play here on YouTube

If that's the case, have you seen any other Johnny Depp movies?

  • Sure. Sleepy Hallow, Nightmare on Elm Street, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Pirates of the caribean. Secret Window. Probably more I can't think of.

  • Donnie Brasco, Finding Neverland, Benny & Joon, Once Upon A Time in Mexico

  • Once Upon a Time in mexico yes. I loved him in that. And I loved him in finding Neverland aswell. That's a great movie.

  • It was cool to see him do that kind of character

It was cool seeing him as J.M. Barrie as well.

    He admires writers, ya know?

  • Yeah I really hope they follow through witth a spin off about his character. The director said he was thinking about it.

    Yes.

    I didn't. I admire writers too.

  • I don't think they're gonna get that chance. Depp has a lot of stuff to do.

  • Yeah I know he wants to do Sin City 3 too. And some other things.

  • could you review planet of the apes both the old and the new one.

  • You really do not want me to review Burton's Planet of the apes. I'll spend the whole time talking about what an asshole he is for the thing with Kevin Smith with the monkey Lincoln.

I haven't seen the old one in a few years. So I'd have to rewatch it. It all depends on if my library has it.

  • okay dont dont review the new one.

  • Lol. Yeah I might do that.

  • The Nightmare Before Christmas was Written By Tim Burton in High School I've read his Autobiography and Ed Wood is a Great Movie

But Uwe Boll is A Fucking Idiot

  • Well that explains alot about that film.

Yes this is true. But many woudl have said the same about Ed Wood. They both make bad films and think they're amazing. And both have fans who watch their movies just because they're bad.

  • I Half Agree Tim Burton Is A Great Director

But He Is An Very Arrogant And Hard To Work With

Jhonen Vasquez the guy who invented Invader Zim and Wrote the Johnny Comics Is The same

    Rude in person and Arrogant

  • NO WAY! I love Invader Zim "PUSH THOSE BUTTON FLIB THOSE SWITCHES!" "Sir we're still on our own planet"

  • Oh I Love Invader Zim Too

But I've Met Jhonen Vasquez The Creator

And He Is A Arrogant Jerk And Hates People Who

Like Zim And He Hate Questions Or Any Thing To

Do With Zim It Really Sucks He Really A Let Down I Wish I Never Met Him

  • Bela Lugosi is played by Martin Landau, who won a Supporting Actor Academy Award for playing this character.

  • Oh ok. Well he deserves it.

  • You clearly are being bias here. Kevin Smith sucks. Tim Burton is a great director. Just because you don't like his style don't mean he is not. That is his style, its meant to be dark and strange. By the way, he did direct Nightmare Before Christmas and he did the animation for it. Do your research. Burton is a genius.

  • the nightmare before christmas was directed by henry selick

  • OK, the original is directed by Burton, and he does the animation.

  • Wrong Tim Burton Just Wrote nightmare before christmas In High School That It Nothing More

  • He also designed the animation. I know that for a fact.

  • How am I biased? do you know what that word means? Because I don't liek Tim Burton that's my OPPINION. And biased woudl be liek if everyone said his films were shit and then I agreed (like idk if someone said that a film was a CLASSIC and I just blindly agreed that'd be biased).

Tim Burton is not great. He just does the same two things over and over and over. He doesn't grow. He doesn't change. Every other director on the planet (sept maybe M. Night Shamalan) grows. Tim Burton is a hack.

  • Was This A Response To Me?

  • No it's to aqualung.

  • Is this A Response To Me?

  • You are biased, you hate Tim Burton and you use this video as an excuse to bash him. You don't like him so it effects your judgment, plus you should just review the fucking movie. Not list all the reasons you hate him. You say he is a hack but he is far more orginal than Kevin Smith, who is a lame ass. Or M. Night Shamalon who's films are stupid and predictable.

  • That's not bias thats an oppinion. And I liked this film so it's clearly not bias.

He's not more original than Kevin Smith. All of his films look distinctly diffrent. And all (save Mallrats and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back) are extremely intelligent and emotionally strong. Timburton's films just look pretty. And the same.

  • No, you are using this as an excuse to bash Tim Burton even more. So what if you liked the movie, then at least have some respect for the filmmaker. Kevin Smith's movies are all alike, they all have stupid geek and stoner humor, its very lame. Unless your high, even then its lame. Burton actually does different projects without using the same lame old characters all the time. He just has a unique style. So what, that don't mean he is repeating himself.

  • I didn't even bring up Kevin Smith. I mean honestly he makes movies about people. Not like Buron who thinks scenery and costumes make a movie.

Also Burton does the same character over and over too. Outside who people don't get but there's always that one chick that does. So he's the same as Kev smith. Sept his films all look the same where Smith has grown.

If you want to see a real director go look at films by James Cameron, Ridley Scott, John Carpenter, and Clint Eastwood.

  • Smith, for the most part, makes relatively realistic people, with the exception of Jay and Silent Bob. Burton makes Exaggerations of people, Caricatures if you will, which I like.

I enjoy Old school Burton and All of smith's films (except Zack And Miri)
