  • I play this in marching band!! Btw i think it's very clever how the numbers are on the screen with the song. :)

  • How do you download this?

  • I was growing up in the Soviet Union. I do not think there was a hoard of Chicago admireres everywhere then, but there was a very small group of fanatics in the speciallist music school in Kiev, where I studied, & I belonged to it at about 1976-78. Once fallen in love - it is forever! Long live Chicago!

    Classical musician .

  • @vichniakov When I was in High School the school was attached to a stadium that was used by the city. The Chargers football team played there and when they were not playing concerts were held there. They were warming up (CTA) awesome. 1976

  • @gs2652 You lucky guy (girl?)!!!

    Best wishes, Mikhail

  • this is the bestest song in the world

  • there is an orgy in my ears w/ that killer sax

  • How do we know the lyrics aren't "two" instead of "to"

  • @SunnyvaleRaider71 Because it's 25 or 26 to 4 - says so right on the record label. The writer said it's a reference to being awake in the wee hours, trying to write a song at 25 or 26 to 4:00 (ie. 3:34 or 3:35 AM). Others have speculated it's a ratio of ingredients for acid; 25/4 or 26/4 or about the number of joints you can roll from a baggie of grass.

  • @3salamanders It's to different kinds of acid. Not speculation. That's true. Kinda makes sense why he told the press its being awake from 25th hour. But they are different types of LSD. EVERYBODY KNOWS THIS. Cmon brother. Says great things about the band teachers btw to play this at school. I love it. but dont do drugs kids until your at least 24.

  • Wow that guy is so dumb..

  • @RussianDrummer92 Oh you know what, you're right.

  • @RussianDrummer92 Is that the title above the video?

  • you guys have it all wrong 25 is a veiled reference to dropping acid circa 1969 give or take a few years either way

  • wtf man you cut out terry's solo!

  • haha what is this song about?

  • Chicago Sesame Street? If that's how you count the shopkeepers around you way must be robbing you blind every time you need change lol

The title refers to the time being 3.35 or 3.34 AM (ie 25/26 minutes to 4) - Hence the phrase "...at the break of day" and all the references to feeling tired and closing my eyes, etc, etc...

  • My jazz band played this and I'm in 7th grade

  • @42soad AWSOME. I MARCHED IT IN HIGH SCHOOL. GREAT SONG!!!!

  • A Baaaaadd driving beat!! Relentless.

  • Comment removed

  • 12 people must not have ever been in a real marching band.

  • haha i love this song tonight at my concert im playing this and the drummers are freaking beast sounds like an actual rock band --im first chair trumpet so i have to play really hard and i was allowed to add in my own stuff like at 0:43 i get to play that and it sounds so sexy!

  • Sounds like Led Zeppelin's "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You." Hell, it's even in the same key. Try listening to Zep's song, and then listen to this right after and you'll see what I mean.

  • I like my solo better

  • Wooohooo awesome. Best live band I ever saw.

  • Why isn't there lyrics to this song!!!!!

  • @ bryanlutrage- well duh! It says it on the video

  • Yesss, i love this song. The jazz band at my school got it back in grade 9, but now graduating year grade 11 we're getting a chance to play at the jazz fest downtown, this is on our list of songs ;D

  • My highschool jazz band is playing this as our closing song. Its epic. We managed to fit some space in it for me to have a killer sax solo :)

  • @SaxopwnJazzCombo if ya'll are using the same arrangement as us theres a part specifically for solos.

  • @SaxopwnJazzCombo

    Nice!

We are doing Make me Smile. I go the lead part.

  • @SaxopwnJazzCombo

    ME TOO! :'D

  • @SaxopwnJazzCombo SWEET! tenor or alto?(i play brass)

  • @baritoneman96 alto and it was epic! i got the transcriptions for my combo and im gonna do tenor. Im excited

  • @SaxopwnJazzCombo cool! i would have played a sax but i did not wanna pay for reeds :P. good for you :D

  • @SaxopwnJazzCombo yeah I did this for our school talent show

  • @SaxopwnJazzCombo i did this song for band in junior high three weeks ago :)

  • @SaxopwnJazzCombo upload ur video so we can hear it how it came out dude

  • @SaxopwnJazzCombo i worship the great brass that makes so much love to my ears O.O

  • @SaxopwnJazzCombo We're doing it in marching band. :D

  • @SaxopwnJazzCombo omg same

  • I got to see them live. Greatest night of my life.

  • Got this song in band. I feel stupid saying this, but I didn't know who Chicago were until then. Now I know. And I LOVE IT.

  • @FlamingBlueGamer Yeah new music isnt that good , and its always fun to find "old" new music :)

  • This is a Pep-band favorite.

  • omg playing this on the kit in band is so much fun :)

  • Hey is this song by the band Chicago?

  • love this song on rockband 3

  • tenia 9 años y la escuche ,,en quito y ahora tengo 41,,,.,20 años despues lo he recuperado y,.y esta banda es lo mejor

  • Can everyone ignore the Successful troll that is vfgjhj and instead focus on the amazing song that is 25 or 6 to 4?

  • I just showed my 16 year old this song,!all the while he is practicing the (exact same) chords for Led-Zeppelin "Babe I'm gonna leave you". I had the same experience looking through my dads records Twenty years ago. Nice!

  • So that everyone knows... the band's name is Chicago. Great song, great band.

  • Can somebody please post this LOUDER?

    Thank you.

  • " my eyes feel like their gonna bleed " oops wrong song * switches video*

  • @lukethedukeable babe i'm gonna leave you by Led Zeppelin has the same descending pattern in the heavy part as well!, all three are excellent songs!

  • Is this KISS?

  • @vfgjhj not even close dude...

  • @vfgjhj being that it says, "Chicago" before the title of the song, I would say no.

  • @pistolpete426p No that just means that it was recorded in Chicago.

  • @vfgjhj this is by the band chicago.

  • @vfgjhj The band's name is Chicago.

  • @vfgjhj I grew up with this band dude. lol. I know. Don't ask a question, and then criticize the answer! "Who sings 25 or 6 to 4?"... Let me Google that for you! .... it's "Chicago" mate.

  • @pistolpete426p the band has multiple singers, songs are sung by different singers within the band, he was probably knowledgeable about that and wanted to know which one of the singers sang it.

  • @pistolpete426p oops srry, didn't realize the guy was a complete idiot lol, srry. But yeah, which singer of the band sings this? is what I'd like to know lol

  • @pistolpete426p I know what I'm talking about "mate". Nice try though.

  • @vfgjhj then why ask the question in the first place? C'mon now. Yes, the band is called "Chicago" because they began, in "Chicago".... like I said, the link title above is, "Chicago - 25 or 6 to 4" because... THE BAND'S NAME IS --- CHICAGO. Thumbs up please if you agree. I'm getting tired of explaining this for the 4th time. lol

  • @pistolpete426p Right, and I'm the pope.

  • @vfgjhj Perhaps you are the Pope. I couldn't care less if you were the Easter Bunny, the band is still "Chicago". I'm done arguing this now. G'day.

  • @pistolpete426p Right, and Bill Gates isn't rich.

  • @vfgjhj can seriously be that retarded?

  • @vfgjhj trollololololol

  • And I love that guitar solo.

  • I use to listen to this song quite a bit back in high school. Its still a good tune now.

  • ten people dont know real music

  • 1:07 i have to learn to play that whole solo on 1st trumpet for my school band :/

  • Key is in A Aeolian

  • what key is this in? anyone know?

  • @Jsouleyrette concert B flat

  • @XxTheAmandaxX it might be that way on an alternate writing, but it's in the key of A Aeolian, most scores are in differen't keys so it's easier to play.

  • Chicago 2 was in fact called just "Chicago" even though it is their second album...remember the name change?

  • This song is about Staying up !

When it was written the band members had been up for 25 hrs and the time was 6 mins till 4

  • i can play this on gtr

  • @IsTapeSticky omg no way!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this is just an awsome tune, good solo guitar work

  • Surprizing that the opening bass line is from the Beatles "While my guitar gently weeps" Its awesome to figure out what influence the Beatles had.

  • @carebearnmbr46 The title is talking about the time of day. (25 mins to 4:00 or 26 mins to 4:00). Some people also believed that the title was talking about drugs, but the person who wrote said it was only the time of day. :)

  • My teacher won't let our ensamble because we're all horn players. This song just goes to show that horns can rock too:p

  • Always thought it was about drugs LSD-25....should I try and do somemore? Don't want to lose touch with reality ;-) Waiting for the break of day.....LOL I have no idea what they're talking about

  • @iluvmusic354 yeah Chicago consisted of 1 trumpet, 1 trombone, 1 tenor sax, electric guitar, piano, and drums. small band but they were good and loud. the band i am in the citrus heights community marching band(based in citrus heights california) is performing this song at multiple venues over the duration of this year.

  • @me9100 It's a good song for a marching band. Appalachian State played this, You can Call Me Al and Lucretia McEvil during the haltime show at the 2007 Michigan game.

I only wish their band had more members so it would have been easier to hear.

  • Most epic song ever.

  • Anyone know what version this is? It sounds much cleaner and crisper than any recording i can find.

  • Drug induced schizophrenia?

    25 or 6 to 4

    Twenty-five or 6-4

    Twenty (6 letters) - five (4 letters)

Should I try and do some more?

    Spinning room is sinking deep.

    Flashing lights against the sky.

    Mmmmm. Yes.

    - Jeffrey Schopp

  • dude i no this song its missing half of the solo

  • Yeah the guitar in this sounds just like the guitar part in Brain Stew by Green Day

  • Great song but it's ripped off of Zeppelin.

Listen to Babe I'm Gonna Leave You off their first album(Led Zeppelin I), the riff is exactly the same. That album came out in 1969, this came out in 1970.

  • @Robstailey So Green Day got it from Chicago who got it from Zeppelin? Damn.

  • @Robstailey except they made the riff into a better song :)

  • TROMBONE!!!!! WOO! 4 REALZ! trombone rox. (so does trumpet!!!!) :) <333

  • @iluvmusic354 ...w....t....f

  • @silentsniperrr what? i play trombone which happens to be in this song. i also play tumpet and a lot of other instruments. im just proud of what i do. w...t...f is weird/wrong about that?

  • @iluvmusic354 no the way u typed everything.

  • @silentsniperrr oh...well im weird like that lol. sorreh.

  • anyone hate how greenday stole the melody of this song

  • Hey. Maybe I'm crazy, but don't you think the lead guitar track sounds a lot like the rhythm track on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" by the Beatles?

  • Played this in jazz band. :D

  • this song is about DRUGS!

  • @guitarchick150 No. it's about staying up late having to write a song and wanting so desperately to sleep, but you know you have to finish writing the song. So, you do whatever it takes to stay awake "getting up to splash [water on] my face". It's purely about writing lyrics to a song in the late hours and the title is about the time on the clock. Therefore, it's in no way about "drugs". Unless that "dug" you are referring to is "sleep". lol. But seriously, That IS what it's about. Look it up.

  • @japguy360 ok ok chill haha my music teacher told me its about drugs cuz the guy in the song was so high he didnt know if it was 25 or 6 to 4 haha it could be about sleep idk im just going with what my music teacher said =P no hate

  • @guitarchick150 - japguy is correct. The song is about musician's writing a song. It is late, he cannot concentrate and is so tired he must splash his face with water to stay awake. He also questions whether he should try to "do some more" writing or just go sleep. He notes the time as 25 or 26 (minutes) until 4am. (It was explained by Robert Lamm, the writer of the song himself). Sorry but your music teacher is mistaken, but many people mistankenly thought the same.

  • @Umihime kk ill let him know :)

  • @Umihime that not completely true. It is about writing a song but some thing that "should i try to do some more" is about drugs becasue his writers block is so immense he is wondering if drugs will help his writing. Which he later proved to be true. hah.

  • This riff is the exact same one from Babe I'm Gonna Leave You by Led Zeppelin, which came out one year before. Both great songs actually but Zeppelin will always rule.

  • ps3 has no gaems

  • this is insane to play on trombone! So many note runs!

  • green day stole this riff

  • I never understood this edit. Five minute singles were not unknown in 1970, even in the USA, as Simon & Garfunkel had a transatlantic no 1 earlier that year with Bridge Over Troubled Water

  • haha, had to play this in band :)

  • @maplewood425 me too and i remixed a crazzy drum set part i might post a cover

  • @maplewood425 Me too I play saxophone played so freaking fast and crazy at parts

  • The horns= sick hip hop sample must slow them down of course listen!!!!

  • Lyrics thought to be drug related...back in the 70s...only because fat christian old ladies had nothing better to do then complain about rock and roll. USA USA USA

  • reminds me of sesame street

  • fav chicago song

  • i heard this song is about writing a song and staying up late to do so, and the title deals with the time.. 3:34 or 3:35 AM hence the 25 or (2)6 (minutes) to 4 (AM)

  • The band wrote this song about a huge wildfire in California that took place in 1925. It raged on for almost a month. The fire was so big that that the firemen were lucky to get 4 hours of sleep. 6 hours was considered a great nights sleep. It became known as the fire of 25 or the 6-4 fire. Listen to the lyrics closely.

  • @AwwwMuffin What the hell are you on. Robert Lamm even admitted that it was about staying up late thinking of lyrics to a song. Stay off the meth dude.

  • @atorrand1 just a joke bro chill out

  • 25 is the compound for LSD, and 6-4 is approxmately how long an acid trip is supposed to last...

  • I love this song! What does it mean, though? Anyone care to enlighten me?

  • Shit thank you for reminding me that I'm colorblind >.<

  • my 5 year old daughter loves this song.

  • @akalholic she's got good taste! keepin it real : )

  • I was lucky to find this. I heard it on the radio again and I had to listen to find out the name of the song. I had been wanting to hear it again, but all I could remember was that superhero-like little music part.

  • The person who disliked this song has no right to be allowed to rate videos.

  • I love playing this song in band. It's so fun.

  • @SceneGirl1979 haha i know right!!! :DDD

  • this is the only chicago song i like, lovin the guitar solos. thanks for the upload,, im going to be downloading this one.
