I never saw him deploy the slap shot as much as he did in that first season with the Rangers. The shots he fired from the point on the power play were absolute rockets. Maybe in Sather's eyes it was time to get younger, but even at the age of 36 I would've made an effort to keep him. Maybe he did. If Jagr wanted an increase in pay then I can understand why Glen let him go. I'd have tried to convince him to stay with 2 years at 4 million per.

Coming back to this certainly makes me remember the times. Nothing against the Rangers team now, Zherdev does nice moves and all, but there's only one man like Jagr. I never saw Jagr take so many one-time slap shots like in the 05-06 season. He's never been noted as having a rocket shot but I wish someone had been able to measure the velocity of those shots. Either he has a great technique or he has a funky stick curvature. Those goalies had no chance. Give Renney credit for putting hime back there and keepting him there. He is incredibly strong (his legs especially) but the slap shot is not a strength shot it's a leg drive shot.

Jagr had a big shot, very accurate too. However I noticed some difference in his shot after that shoulder injury in 06 playoffs (against the Devils). I think his shot wasn't as good as it used to be after that. :(
