We kinda go "Captain Chesapeake" here in DC (whenever the weather was right and our 'rabbit ears' were tuned properly. Just like our own Captain 20, Captain Chesapeake kept kids smiling with his between cartoon bumpers and stories. (Sadly, I only wish our 'rabbit ears' allowed me to catch Richmond's "Bowman Body", but that's the way it was before cable and digital, kiddies!). I also caught CC on Sunday Nights as "The Ghost Host"--damn that was a great movie show!! Thanks from this DC Kid!
Frm the wife of Faust6688-Thanks SO much 4 this post. My hubby didn't grow up here, awesome 2 show him the amazing Captain Chesapeake. My BFF Tracy & I grew up with him, kids today don't know what fun they're missing. Thanx again, AWESOME memories!! :)
Thank you to whoever posted this video. Capt Chesapeake was something I looked foward to watching when I was a child growing up in the 70's. Nice to see him again. I would love to see clips of Mony the seamonster and Bruce the bird
I hear that music at the end of this clip playing at Camden Yards sometimes. I want to say that it normally happens during coaching visits to the mound. Is that song from somewhere else besides the Captain.
@Diesel3640 The piece of music is "Stumbling," by the Three Suns; however, the track was sped up via phonograph speed setting when it aired on the Captain's program. It had originally been recorded on an LP at 33 1/3 rpm, but played here at 45 rpm.
For those not familiar with phonograph records and turntables, these had been the 20th-century forerunners to CD's and iPods, and the like. Sorry if I alienated anyone here. :)
@Launchpad05 i was thinking the same thing.i am from pittsburgh and can recall that the intro to capt.pitt is the same as this.theme song and lyrics are exactly the same as well.neat!
When I first moved to Annapolis in 1974, I watched Capt. Chesapeake and Channel 45 faithfully, as did all the other kids in my neighborhood . . . up until the end of that summer, when the show had a mail-in contest, the grand prize being a gas-powered kid-sized minicar. Every kid in my neighborhood entered; we were CERTAIN that one of us would win! Our dreams were dashed when some kid from Joppatowne won it. We never watched the show again, permanently switching over to Channel 20's kid shows.
It's weird but some of the stuff I remember most clearly about Captain C. were the ads that ran during the show--the same commericals over and over. There was one for Charm Pops about Billy the American and Melvin of Sydney. And there was also an ad for Midas Car repair shops. They would go thru the list of local owners of Midas shops and my friends and I thought it was so funny that none of the owners had "normal" names. Instead they had names like Albie Bennington and Carol Pemontel. Memories.
ALL MAN.DAT WAS HOMEBOY RITE THERE.DA CAPTIAN.I SURE MISS HIM AND HIS PROGRAM.KIDS 2 DAY DNT HAV A CLUE HOW MUCH FUN KIDS BAC DEN HAD.NO MORE KIDS CARTOON PROGRAMS AROUND DEEZ DAYS.RATHER ITS DA WEEKDAYS OR SATURDAY MORNINGS.
I got on youtube looking for Stu Kerr and hoping to find some clips of the old TV show caboose. especially when he used to do that rendition of cocktails for two at the end of every show. I was surprised that some how in my search this came up! what a serious blast from the past! I wanted to sit down and have a PB&J and do my home work, when I saw this clip :)
@steveox1961 Sorry, but you are mistaken. George Lewis was Captain Pitt. I used to watch it everyday on WPTT channel 22 out of Pittsburgh. I ought to know, I watched it enough, and it was the same guy who played Captain Chesapeake. I am not confusing him with Mr. Rogers either. George Lewis may not have been a Pittsburgh guy as you said, but he was still Captain Pitt every weekday for a couple of years, and that is a fact.
Though I was from DC and had a better time watching Channel 20 in most cases, I loved Capt'n Chesapeake. If it weren't for him I wouldn't have discovered Robotech until channel 20 got it in 87.
To borrow from Graham Greene, "Maryland will always be roughly the size of my heart". I would ask any of my fellow crew members from those bygone days, to those who still remember Salisbury, The Cozy Inn, Lourdes, and the Isle of Wight: Would you hesitate to return to 1980 for one minute? Our late Captain (RIP) clearly did not stand for the Schizoid multicultural mess that our beloved Maryland has become.
Captain chesapeake was like santa clause to kids in baltimore. I saw him in a parade in the eighties, and he was like the most famous dude I had ever seen. I remember when they cut my man off to put on Kenny and Steve. Fuck Kenny and Steve! I'm a thirty year old black dude, and Capt. Chesapeake was like a grandfather. Yo had a boat permenantly anchored at the Inner Harbor! Get tha fuck outta here!!!
When my family moved to Annapolis in 1974, my brother and I (and all the neigborhood kids) watched CC religiously - until the Great Car Giveaway. In 1974-75, CC announced a contest with the grand prize being a mini gas-powered car for kids. All you had to do was send in a SASE. Every kid we knew did - each one of us KNEW we were going to win, and share the car amongst ourselves. But alas, on the day of the drawing, some Baltimore kid won! We never watched CC again! Switched to Captain 20.
Your racist ass should be banned from this site and every other site. I can't believe that you tube would even air your comments. You are a sick racist bastard. Freaking idiot.
Looking back at this, I can't believe the intro was never updated by at least 1985. They could've added music to the poem and new footage, but they chose to keep it as it was in the 1970's. By 1987, The Treehouse replaced Chesapeake's 2 hour block on WBFF/FOX 45, and the cartoons changed over the next 5 years.. When did they start using the digital clock on the screen in the morning programs to prepare Chesapeake's crewmembers for school, anyway?
I'd love to see Mondy the sea monster or Bruce The Bird clips, I was there from Day 1 and the day George Lewis died was one of the saddest days of my life.
I used to do my chores in record time to see Capt. I now know that there's nothing that you can't find on YT. I looked this up on a whim. What was the side kick again? A shark, or was it a sea monster, or am I thinking of Sigmund the sea monster?

A shipwrecked sailor found himself in a plight, lost at sea he was really a sight.
he swam and swam 'til he thought he'd die, when a wondrous sight appeared to his eye
a derelict boat that saved his life
and put an end to his watery strife.
