Sure, lots to mock, But also lots to admire, The concepts of an elite existing but refusing to evolve, existing at the expense of the many, of immortality becoming a curse, of the sexual attraction of the barbarian, who then introduces the seed of change, change which can bring death and destruction but also more equality and social evolution. The more time passes and we don't see anything as creative as Zardoz, the more we can enjoy and learn the lessons of the 70s.
@2:30 - 2:36 - it used to be taken for granted - about 60 or 70 years ago - that the existence of life anywhere but earth was an absurd idea. That was before certain developments in astronomy were technically possible - but apart from them, the idea that only earth was inhabited was not as crazily out of the question as people now might think. Ther's not exactly much proof of life on other planets now. The really crazy idea in the film is that the entire universe could have been searched.
Some of the actors are pretty good but there's just so many goofy performances, non-sensical logic, cheesy moments and just the dumbest out of context line that is hard to fully take it seriously ftw
Oh yes! forgot to add- your voice is a little bit irratating. It's like a 70 year old dame, thats been chain smoking for 55 years and really inhaling that tabaco.
I think you are missing the point of this movie. It was made in the 70s post culture of sex, drugs and rock n roll. I would of thought a guy with your appearance would dig that? I thinks you Like it!!!! Yes, Yes! thats it. You have gone to so much trouble making this blog. And you have been so kind to talk us through your favorite bits of the movie. Busted!
LOL I just watched the film last night. I bought it on Ebay. It was really well WTF? But Like Doctorw2 said it was a film for intellectuals. $ me I like to watch films from the 70's that r totally bizarre.
@Evilmike42 no this film was filled with a lot of abstract symbolisim that most people didnt understand, i love this movie becuase it is like impressionist art full of deep enigmatic psychological expressions. this entire movie is an expose' on the social ecology of mankind and the meaning of life.
@Evilmike42 listen this was a good sci fi film i enjoyed it a lot and its usualy people like yourself who call other people morons who are usualy morons themselves but, are in denial and are ignorant about it. no the plot was not obvious if it was people who saw the film would not have complained about not knowing what was going on in the movie including critics and secondly mr booremans movie failed only becuase it is an intellectual sci fi art film the average person does not like such movies.
@doctorw2 , Absolutely all right, this movie contains a complex theme difficult to rise in images, far from the current movies which have only the action for engine, stories low to consomer in big knocks of special effects...

Okay, the clip of her giving birth...her abdomen shouldn't have been moving that much. It looks like an Alien was trying to burst out...

@doctorw2 Awww. I bet you think you're an 'intellectual', don't you, moron?
Here are some clues.
The London Underground is not a political movement.
The underlying message of Buddhism is not 'every man for himself'.
Calling you a moron is an insult to morons everywhere.
Yes, we are quite well aware Mr. Boorman was making an Intellectual Movie.
HE FAILED.
The plot, such as it is, IS VERY OBVIOUS.
When people say they don't 'understand' it, they are basically being polite, moron.
