Well about mics on drums you can't see any by his cymbals. I have seen them twice live and actually You don't hear his cymbals much, even with overheads wich usually pic up the stereo specters among the kit. A lot of other drummers has mics by their cymbals or maybe play more powerfull cymbals. The Rude series he plays by Paiste can make a lot of noise so maybe they just go with overheads. David Silvera from Korn also play the Rude series but changed to 2002 series.

@cesariman i have seen slipknot also two times and his toms snare and bass drum have triggers (electronic system that makes a fatter and louder beat) the cymbals have mics.. and the hi-hat have a extra mic and the other ones are together with a few mics (chinas with one mic, the craches with two mics, the ride with one mic, and the splashes with 2 mics) i know i'm a freak but i love joey's way to drum *-*

What gives the illusion that Joey is "better" is because usually when the drum goes at the speed Joey does, the guitar doubles or equals it but in Slipknot the drum sounds more dominant because the guitar riffs are simple.
