A few months ago, my mom picked up this DVD for me at a local supermarket for like $5. I was happy! I love the hulk! As a kid, I used to watch the TV series, whenever I could. The problem was it was on @ 9:00 or 10:00pm (followed by Starsky & Hutch) & I often I would have to go to bed. (school nights). Maybe the DVD was like...to try & make it up to me? hehehe
this came out my 5th grade year and i was SO excited! i wish they would have made mcgee find out the truth.. they phased him out of the next two movies, which was a disappointment... instead of dying, he should have been cured or controlled it...
A fourth TV movie had been planned called The Revenge of the Incredible Hulk. I think they were going to have Banner's mind in the Hulk's body,Kind of like what they were doing in the comics at the time. But Bixby died before it could be made. I'm not 100% sure of that though.
Your right about Mcgee. He should have at least been in the third TV movie.
Sort of. In Prometheus David is exposed to High levels of Gamma Radiation from a meteor. He is attacked by bees and turns into the Hulk. But when he calms down and begins to change back he's stuck in mid transformation. This Banner/Hulk combination was called the Demi Hulk and he wasn't as intelligent. I think the scene is on Youtube.
Prometheus was when Banner was caught halfway in between.. the close ups were Bill
Bixby's face, but the Half Hulk/Half banner was a bodybuilder who favored both Ferrigno and Bixby, he is a stunt man actually (4 got his name).... 2nd Best episode ever behind "the first" with frye's creature (old man hulk)
@6ft2220beast Cool to see people know these episodes, and i am not too old to be the only one raving about those... I am low tech and can't find much on computers but i vaguely remembered that 1/2 hulk/banner story, and thought they did a great job on it. That dude actually looked darn close for what the character was supposed to be, a bulky banner. I remember it being realistic too, bending up lockers and such but not lifting cars yet...
i agree... half hulk/banner was great! man, u should get them on dvd- they are redone digitally and look great! also loved the one with the two hulks- old man hulk-dale frye! awesome!
@6ft2220beast the bodybuilder you mentioned that was in the far away shots in Prometheus is named Ric Drasin, who is also a retired professional wrestler.
Yes, it DID do good as far as ratings were concerned, as it had been six years since the series was last aired on CBS, but as far as the QUALITY of the movie was concerned, it was sub par compared to the high road that creator/producer Kenneth Johnson left it on. Kenny made David Banner an 'everyday guy' type person everyone could relate to without all of the comic book BS - it being brought back fro these TV movies was a real downer - besides, Jack McGee's dilemma with Banner was never resolved
Sub par? oh yeah because the emotional stuff never plays a part in the show or the comic's besdies stop talking about the comic's when they started the hulk honestly that's stupid. The movie's did well with rating's aswell infact better than the show's they did really well you just didn't like that.
If the ratings were so great for these movies, how come with each one did the ratings go down, and not up? The main reason the TV show was canceled was due to budget concerns, as "The Incredible Hulk" was one of the more expensive shows at the time. Yes, I know that the show was based from a comic, but I still liked the humanity that both Bill Bixby and Kenny Johnson put in the TV show's version of David Banner. The movies still never resolved the series conflict between David & McGee.
they didn't go down man infact they did well really well.Secondly the comics had an even better banner you idiot! there banner hated himself showed signs of being crazy and went on a lonely life til the day he died.
No need for the name calling bud - just because I never read the comics is no reason to call me an idiot, and besides, Stan Lee (who DID create the comic) was a consultant on the original series, and liked the way Kenneth Johnson did it. You might want to go to Kenny's website sometime to check it out for yourself.
yeah because kenny wouldn't lie to make himself better i know the facts dude! but you comepltyly insulted the comics which made hulk and for that yuor opinion is thrown out the video.
Stan Lee is listed in the credits of the TV series as a consultant.
If I remembered correctly, He even liked the fact that the Hulk never spoke because he felt "Me Hulk! ME SMASH!" would sound corny. He didn't like the fact they changed his name from Bruce to David though.
Banner in the TV series wasn't much different than his Comic counterpart. Both hated to Loose control and turning into the Hulk. Both searched for a cure and Both were persued by a nemisis(Jack Mcgee and General Ross).
It was sub par because it wasn't about returning to the quality of the original series.
They only got to make these movies on the condition that they be used to make a spin off series featuring different characters.Otherwise, there would have been no return of the Hulk.
At the time I hated these new Hulks but now, they're actually not bad and I wish they had made a Daredevil/ Thor tv series, just because they coulda been good.
Still not up to par with eps like Prometheus or The 1st etc.
the hulk grew longer hair

@Alan27Jorn The Hulk was never part of ABC's programming lineup. The TV movies that were produced during the late 1980s were broadcast on NBC.

My favorite in the made for TV movie series. Lou Ferrigno was 290 pounds of muscle at the time. Bigger in fact than he was in the series.

They already made an episode with the mind of Banner in the Hulk, I think it was Prometheus.
I think the 4th movie WAS going to cure Banner but like you said, Bixby died.
RIP Bill, no matter how much cash Hollywood has, they STILL haven't found a Banner to replace you.
Bill Bixby WAS David Banner, so just give up Hollywood.

I agree. No one can play Banner like Bixby.

Yes you're right.
I tracked it down and they did call him the 'Demi Hulk'. Not quite the same thing but still a good episode, cheers.

But not the inferior movies - without Kenneth Johnson's input, they were dead in the water without him!

"He didn't like the fact they changed his name from Bruce to David though."
I think that was a reasonable decision. Banner was supposed to come off as wimpy, not gay. This was back in the 70's, after all.
