@73sebrougham I have to take some more footage in order to have more to post. I've been spending so much time cruizing lately, I haven't pulled out the viseo recorder. I will see what I can do.
I've only seen one of these in my life, same color (I think, it was night) since the minute it parked in front of my school everyone starred at it until it left about half an hour later at full throttle, the rear suspension lifted like nothing else I've seen and a few seconds later on the next street corner it crashed into a truck, ruined the car. Today I finally found out the model (1970s 500) here on youtube, the dodge charger it's been my favourite "classic" car since that day :-)
Thank you for the kind words. This car appears as a "Pentastar" in July 2009 Mopar Muscle Magazine. I am nearing completion on the body prep and I hope to post at least a slide show soon.
I thought the Charger 500 had a flush rear window, not indented with the louvers, but I guess I;m wrong. Whats the difference between the 500 and the R/T?
Oh no, I am in the middle of prepping the body for a repaint now. I have been watching the market prices and have learned two things about these cars. 1) You couldn't afford to buy it; and 2) I couldn't afford to replace it again. Sorry!
I am not sure but I heard that it would be lower. I used the thinnest head gaskets I could find. I have read varying opinions about using this combination, but you can hear how it sounds and runs in my other videos. I am happy with the combination and I wouldn't bother with machining the block, for the sake of some top end power. Unless I were to have done alot of otherthings as well, like change pistons, etc.
It's not that simple. Depends on what else the car has. If it was in the same shape as mine with a well built 451(?) I would guess that it would be worth at least 18-20K.
Having bought and sold these cars for the last 30 years and watching the market both in print and auctions, I would say thay I would expect to pay between 12 and 20K for the car you describe. The most recent Mopar Collectors Guide doesn't have anything listed for les than 15 Thousand, unless you by a shell.
It has been my experience that as long as you have the body, you can always build a motor. Plus, If this was an original big block car, it wouldn't be in near as good shape, or someone would have cut it up for a race car 30 years ago.
Oh, guess I was wrong. I went to your site and you have no videos of your own cars posted. Hmmmmm? That's odd. Oh well, I guess we will get to see your cars some other time. I'm sure they will be really nice.
Since I own a 70 500 and a 70 R/T I would like to say the following:4000 redline on tach says I putt around with an egg under the pedal.-Traction bars kill Chryslers fine engineering-The wheels scream 1991,as do tires-Ugly ass seat cover.Black seat belts in a brown interior?-Blue tubing? WTF.Yellow coil? Oil your door hinges too, man.Charger mods should be done with an eye towards taste.Props for hanging with the 318 to be different, though.Sounds good too. You asked for comments.
Thanks for the comments. I'll have to check out all of the videos of your cars. Usually the guys who have the most critical comments have some pretty wicked cars posted on their sites.
holy cow brother beautiful car man if you don't mind my asking how much did you pay for all this (I'm looking for a 1969 Dodge charger myself and would like to do a similar restoration) and its like they say Mopar or no car !!! Mopar rules.
I was fortunate to get a deal back in 1998. The seller didn't realize what he had or its value. I did the motor, trans, wheel and tires. Everything else is the way it came.
Doing all of the work myself, except building the trans, and recently doing the suspension, I put about $3000 into it, besides the purchase price. I did alot of swap meets and bartering. To do it right will be expensive but it is a worthwhile investment. Good luck. Check out my music video.
Restoration parts? Those are all original parts brother. The only parts I bought were for the engine. But the body and the interior are all original, I even have the original build sheet. My music video shows the rebuild of the suspension and that all came for PST.
I like the 150 mph speedometer, hidden headlights, chrome bumpers, color combination, roofline, AND it also sounds terrific. Did they break down the Charger 500 in the production figures for 1970?
Yea, I know, I mispoke. I meant the body and the interior is original, as is the trunk.
It is the original motor and trans (both rebuilt). Most people understand exactly what I meant but I wasn't trying to say it came off the line that way. But that would have been Kool, huh?
I have had 3 other 383 cars, one was a 4-speed RT car, but the 318 has been good to me. If I were to change anything, it would have to be for a Hemi, and what are the chances of that happening?
Had a 69 Road Runned with a 383. Good engine. Know what ya mean about the 318. It went into another car and kept goin' for another 7 years that I know of (maybe longer). When I got rid of it there was 241,000 miles on it. After the next neuclear holocost there'll be two things left... Cockroaches and 318's. Can't kill either one.
If one more of you "rookie" muscle car experts comments about the 70 500, without noticing that there are about 20 other videos and a commercial about the 70 500, I will have to conclude that you guys (who comment like this) are all idiots.
dude, I realize the difference now, yea, I was refering to the 1969 500. And by the freakin way, I'm 21, I own a restored 1970 Dodge Charger that I've had since I was 15 and I drove it to high school every day
All right Man! I hear Ya. I was just getting worked up a little. You have no idea how many times I have heard that and had to explain it to someone.I'll cut you some slack for being a Mopar Guy, But everyoneone else needs to read all of the comments in the section before posting. PLEASE!
As this is a 318/904 car, it has an open rearend (2.71) and I can run 70mph on the highway at about 2200 rpm. I drove it to the Woodward Blvd Cruise and got 17 mpg. I want to install a Dana 60 after everything else is completed mechanically. Watch for my upcoming video of the front end rebuild.
its a 318 with 340 heads (completly gone through) and a Crower Beast cam, Edlbrock LD340 manifold with a Edlbrock 600 CFM carb, through Heddmen headers and flowmasters.
sir, i mean not to offend you but the charger 500 came out in 1969 and the front grill had no divider bar was moved farther forward to make it more aero dynamic the c bar rear windows were taken out and replaced with a flush set and the engine was the 440 magnum with 7.2 liters of compression, dodge made 500 of them and sold 498 the other two were used to make the doge charger Dayton's prototype.
Nice car, anyone who has a piece of MoPar muscle is ok by me :) Let's line up, my '68 R/T vs your car. Haha 440 RB vs 318 LA wouldn't be fair. Each car has its own rightful place. Keep that car in nice shape and take it to carshows to share it with other folks, in real life.
Mopar Rules. Right back at ya! Anyone with a Mope is on my team when it is time to flex some muscle. Love to see your RT man. I am right in the middle of a complete suspension rebuild which will be posted soon. I have replaced everything, right down to the strut rod bushings and brake lines. It has been a bitch to do with hand tools but a breeze to do, following the original service manual. Long live Mopar and hey, lets line up that RT, I'd love to watch it go streaking away from me.
I thought the 500's had the front grille and rear window filled in for better aero dynamics. or is that only 69s either way very very nice charger. gave ya 5 stars
Beautiful car! I have a 70 charger as well...Does yours have a 500 emblem on the tail panel?? I assume mine is a 500- vin starts as XP29 but no 500 emblems present ..It has Se emblems on the top as I hear it's a 500 se model..still trying to figure it out...
To answer your question, yes, The tail panel does have the "500" emblem which you can just make out at 3:16 and 3:26 min. I also purchased a clean emblem from Year One, to replace the original on the grill.
The 70 500 came in RT, RT/SE, SE, etc. That just denoted the trim package. There is a commercial on YouTube for the 1970 500, give it a listen. Thanks for the comments, did you rate this video?
Beautiful car! I've got one the same, with the same interior and 383 engine. Could you please tell me the measure of the wheels and of the tyres?
