  • Arggg damn my boyfriends poor tatse in music.... otherwise this would so be our song!

  • This is beautiful. It reminds me of PJ and Nick Cave.

  • I'm pretty sure when Johnny Depp was passing through Florence, and saw John Paul White walking out of Billy Reed's store, he said to himself, "Hey, I like that look. I will copy it." And thus you have the story of why Johnny Depp and JPW look alike.

  • You can never go wrong with a Leonard Cohen song...

  • love the look of this video and that song is simply beautiful

  • So beautiful!

  • Wow. Perfection.

  • They are so beautiful :)

  • This will be the first dance at our wedding.

  • this band on a scale of 1 to 10

    OVER 9000!!!!!!!!!

  • Their singing voices are perpetually light and fluffy and breathless. I keep waiting for them to break into full voice, but they never do. Joy William's has an incredibly rich and passionate voice. Every now and then I like dainty and gentle harmony singing, but this is all these two seem to do. It's possible to be a duet and perform full on. Listen to Joy's solo work and you'll see the difference.

  • @DelWhite Have you ever seen them perform Barton Hallow, Falling, From this Valley etc? Also this version of Dance Me is 2 years old, and they do actually break into full voice towards the last half of the song in their more recent performances. I recommend you look into more of their stuff especially from more recent live shows because you'll definitely find many of their songs are performed full on and get to hear more of Joy's beautiful belting voice as well as her dainty and gentle voice :)

  • @lalalalove436 Thanks - I took your advice. I definitely like them, and appreciate their music and talent. Joy seems to be getting a ton more attention with the Civil Wars than she did as a solo artist. I can't help but think it's because the Civil Wars don't seem to be "Christian Music" performers. That's fine with me, but a little sad. She is a tremendous talent, and she is, again IMHO, dialing it down a lot to fit into a duo. I hope she continues to create and sing new music as a solo singer.

  • uggghhh.. why aren't they married?!?!?!?!

  • YOU ARE FLAWLESS.

  • People can stand close to each other or even sing love songs together without being in a relationship, you know.....They're both married to other people, just for the random tidbit of information :)

  • amazing

  • Dislike yapanlar bi gelsin hele

  • I want a guy to look at me the way he looks at her.

  • What a beautiful song! I love it.. It really catches your heart.

  • got chills

  • wow this just became my new favorite song, it just hits that spot in your heart and makes you unknowingly start swaying

  • uploading this on Valentine's Day's eve is pretty witty, i might admit.

  • This is sensitive, romantic, beautiful. I honestly don't care where it comes from, an affair or no. Enjoy the moment for what it is and not what came before or afterwards. To see dreams made real, ah my aching heart!

  • They're voices are made for each other! And their chemistry is unreal!!

  • This, my dear YouTube friends, is REAL music.

  • is the load bar a snowflake?

  • For those who question their closeness to one another while being married to others, go to their website, where they frankly discuss this anomaly and explain how it actually makes them better artists.

  • çok hoş

  • Raw voices and Guitars = Perfection.

  • ITS BEST !

  • fucking brilliant.

  • Oh my. I'm in love with these two!

  • These guys are married......... to other people. Am I the only one who is uncomfortable watching this? I feel bad for their spouses

  • perfect :) <3

  • Its so hard to get a read on these people. There both married to other people, but the way they stand so close and the way they look in each others eyes while singing. They have to to secretly take their relationship to another level.

  • To remind everyone, look at Johnny and June Cash

  • @Brownton4 Yeah, it's pretty strange, but I'd like to assume the best, that it's just a symptom of some super-special musical connection/ friendship. Which they obviously do have, considering how fantastically they gel with each other.

  • Just found them and their fucking amazing

  • My god, these hipsters need to undiscover Leonard Cohen.

  • I adore this. It reminds of The Hush Sound. ^_^

  • love her!!!

  • Found this due via Letterman last night and absolutely am mesmerized by their music! I absolutely love their sound and style. They represent the true meaning of music. I want all their songs to enjoy over and over again! (Had I not watched Letterman, I doubt I'd ever have known about them!)

  • Sexy, poetic, nostalgic, chemical, arousing, just plain romantically emotive! Bravo!

  • This video is amazing. I did a dance rework of the leonard cohen track last year which I've been playing to a few eager audiences, but it definitely doesn't have the emotion and energy that this version does.

  • Try "Dance Me to the End of Love - Neylan"

  • Such a beautiful and evocative performance.

  • they always stand so close together. it's sexy.

  • @emd8496 like they'are gonna kiss each other :D

  • Daaaaamnnnn this was soooooooo amazing!

  • They give me a lady boner.

  • @MissDimples87 I never heard the term 'lady boner' - I like it. I've heard of a 'wide on', which I think is similar. But what does a guy know if he isn't taught by a woman?

  • @colddogsoup6 : ) I like your way of saying that women know more than men. You're cute!

    P.S. I have a vagina.

  • great song

  • I personally like this version much better than their studio version, even if the quality suffers a bit. This one has more emotion, in my opinion.

  • This song describes how I want my life with my boyfriend to pan out. Maybe feeling less sad than this, but it still really works.

  • 22 people dont know what beauty is...

  • Me and my brother are in a band similar to this called Mimi & Nino, i was surprised how much these guys sounded like us because ive never heard anything that sounded anything like us before. they are a lot different too tho, they are folk. they are great.

  • @mimiandnino7 nice, i saw your comment on the video before this one. cool story bro.

  • I just watched "making love" happen.....that is truly a connection with the heart.

  • I love this song very much. Because it's telling me. Because wonderful. Thank you very much Rabia ♥ :D

  • I haven't decided on how I feel about Joy Williams in the Civil Wars... I grew up on all her Christian stuff, and i've been moving towards this kind of music for a while now, but I feel weirdly like some of her older stuff doen't count as much anymore or something... as much as I like this song, I don't think I'll ever be able to be a fan...

  • youtube.com/watch?v=DRhEQesHmwI&feature=related

  • its like god made them to be put on this earth to find each other and to sing together cuz without each other their beautiful music just wouldn't sound as perfect.

  • HE IS SOOO GOOD LOOKING! i cannot stop staring at him! ahh i love his emotions!

  • @nida8744 He looks like a homeless person.

  • @smalla84 funny because he makes jokes about them being homeless people on the road.

  • American version of Damien Rice and Lisa Hannigan

  • I would like to see them try and do "Hallelujah" I think they could pull it off. Maybe not Jeff Buckley or Leonard Cohen good, but still amazing. It would be interesting to hear it as a duet too.

  • @JacobFCO Let's not encroach into BCB arenas, but I know what you mean!

  • Perfectly !

  • thats real music and not that damn justin bieber shit, does anyone know if there is a studio version of the civil wars and this song?

  • @Onurr91 This song is a bonustrack on their album, Barton Hollow :)

  • love it!!

  • harmony at 2:15 is just ohh oh wow

  • yu guys are amaazin! love from India

  • i really do love these peoples voices its so astonishing

  • This is what music should sound like. I LOVE them.

  • Yes, that is proper. I wouldn't have guessed English was not your first language, and I teach English, ESL, and EFL. I agree with your assessment. They have heavenly voices, but their harmonies weave dark undertones beneath and around their words. By the way, what is your first language?

  • Beautifull. So sweet yet edgy (is that proper english?)

  • This reminds me of the first videos and movies ever made. They were one shot but filled with passion and excitement. You do great work musically, keep it up :^)

  • beautiful. what songs are supposed to be like

  • Joy always sounds a little like Karin Bergquist of Over The Rhine, but here the resemblance is uncanny!

  • They have such amazing chemistry....they are so talented there music is incredible

  • They give me chills when they harmonize. I just got turned on to them via KFOG in SF....love love love them/

  • I'm going out on a limb here, but right here, right now I think this could be the best video ever posted onto youtube.

  • absolutely in love with this song . . .

  • This is INCREDIBLE!!!

  • what a beautiful sound they make x

  • Whichever video I watch of The Civil Wars; whether it's a concert or a song out in the woods; whether she is happy and bubbly or seemingly dead on her feet.....Joy Williams, performing her art, is the most soul gripping emotion I have experienced. She is absolutely a "JOY" to hear and see!

  • ooo...shivers down my spine! Waiting on the postman for your album! :) xxxxx

  • When they sing together, it's just... heavenly.

  • wow!!!

  • very touching song and performance. simply beautiful . love

  • Just Perfect

  • this is the voice that i recognize! Joy your voice is great!! but in poison and wine you sound so different! but still amazing.

  • chilllllz!

  • life is tragically beautiful

  • bulaştırmıyım sana da

  • hastayım ben

  • olur öyle bazen

  • düşüşleri sevmedim zemine alışık değilim!

  • where have you been all my life??

  • sensational perfomance! loved it!

  • It would be pretty hard to maintain this performance intensity if they were married to each other -- it's perfect the way it is. We can't really expect to express our entire individuality with just one person -- that's realistically too much compatibility for one relationship. These two are lucky to have each other for this creative outlet.

  • perfect....

  • repeat ------> 0:00

  • I just love their old style music

  • Where is the LOVE button?! These two are amazing.

  • Wow, what chemistry these two have!

  • You rock. If the people you love give you the inspiration for your music..........Please never loose your muses...........

  • Love - The Civil Wars - singing - Dance Me To The End Of Love - by Leonard Cohen

  • stay out of the private life and appreciate their music. It works,

  • love this song so much :)

  • Hey People: this is a Leonard Cohen song, another timeless classic of near-perfect emotional precision.

If you're thinking "Leonard Co-who?", go find out.

And this is a nice testament to the taste of this ubertalented duo.

  • @cowkllr they're married to different people

  • maybe their brother and sister, that's why they aren't doin it

  • Very, very nice.

  • I'm hypnotized by this song!! It's absolutely beautiful. The harmony and love you feel in this song is brilliant!! Thank you!!

  • these two are the MOST AMAZING singers i've ever heard in my life...seriously!

  • sublimeeeee,la tendresse meme!!! dans toute la simplicite!!!!!!!!

  • I think that Joy and John Paul find their own version of love within each other and project that "respect" aka "love" upon each other as artists to convey the feelings they have about the music they make together which to some may seem very personal and loving which it is but not in the way most think about love.Like you may "love" a co-worker for something they contribute to you -but you can never see yourself with them on a personal level.

  • It's nice, but sometimes I wish Leonard Cohen's masterpieces would be left alone.

  • I can't wait to see them in concert next month..only a small venue in Islington, it should be a remarkable experience.

  • @123eleb I'm going too! I think it only seats 400, should be a cracking show in such an intimate venue.

  • My weakness.*

  • John Paul's voice is weakness. And Joy's voice is so gentle and hypnotic. Such a great cover.

  • they are so hypnotizing...love, love, love

  • i am so sorry, but sometimes i think that this is better than Leonard Cohen

  • awesome...

  • i love heavy metal music and death-core but this is amazing music. at first i thought it was bad but the more songs i hear by them the more i fall in love with there music. Amazing is all i have to say.

  • 20 people were dropped on their heads as small children & nedd to be beat with a sack full of bars of soap. :3 Anyone else getting an eargasm by listening to this?

  • @NomDatCookie

Some people just have poor taste in music. They are so talented.

  • Check out Callie's version of this classic!

  • Bloody fantastic!

  • Kheyli bahal ... Nice tnx

  • Love them

  • this reminds me of the song from Anastasia "Once Upon a December" at the beginning.

  • <3 J'adore <3

  • Please make a recording for itunes! I love this version.. It's simply breathtaking.

  • Its undeniable that this song is incredibly beautiful and a work of art, but you can stop this video at any second and like SuddenlyBess1000 said, It looks like a beautiful painting.

  • They look like a moving painting : )

  • @SuddenlyBees1000 like in Harry Potter! Love them!!

  • @SuddenlyBees1000 haha! that's a great observation!

  • @SuddenlyBees1000 it's magic :)

  • alllallllallll

  • Didn't Leonard Cohen originally write this?

  • @SaveYoshi read the description

  • @imagummybear14 Lol oh, oops. Nevermind, thank you :)

  • @SaveYoshi no problem =)

  • i cant believe this song was inspired by the holocaust

  • @deejay114, really?

  • @Karmicsamadi86 yea leanard cohen wrote it about these classical musician jews that played music for the jews that were being put into the oven

  • these two are GOING PLACES i promis you.

  • This is breathtakingly gorgeous and haunting.

  • Agreed. Pure Music... Untouched by computers, synthesizers or any other artificial enhancements / distortions. Simple and beautiful...

  • This is what music is all about. Period.

  • I adore them. Their music gives me chills.

  • Just found out about them just now..I so needed this in my life right now

  • I am obsessed with this song. :)

  • brings tears in my eyes................

  • I saw them in concert in Charleston WV...they said they were dating.

  • @tcandrenee maybe they were joking.

or sarcastically referring to the common assumptions that everyone seems to make about them.

  • Such a nice love song from Leonard Cohen of Montreal... nice replay also by that duo.

  • They're BFFs!

  • Is John white related in any way to Jack White? lol

  • @AmandaChoin217 I think they look alike.

  • They sing to each other like they're in love.

  • Their spouses do not need to be concerned. It's because of their spouses that John and Joy are able to sing the way they do. Their success as artists is a testament to the great love they must experience within their marriages.

  • @annecynn Well said, VERY well said!!!

  • @annecynn lol
