  • Great vid.

You can pick up a brand new, un-fired Russian SKS in Canada for as low as $75.00

  • I have a chinese version of the sks but mine is modified with a hi capacity magazine.

  • @PhantomDark21 Those weird ass ak adapter things dont fit well and are cheply made.

  • for a guy that has all those guns...he really just doesnt have his facts straight lol

  • whoever films this is very quiet...

  • Yes thats what I said,The SKS and AK series uses the 7.62x39 round. the BULLET diameter is .311 NOT .308 like some people think... The 7.92x57 is commonly called the German 8mm used in WW2 in their Mauser's,the MG-34 and MG-42.The German STG-44 in 7.92X33 Krutz was a necked down 8mm round.. I was explaining that the Russians just copied the Germans in creating their 7.62x39 by necking their 7.62X54R round. the "R" in the modern official C.I.P. designation (7.62 × 54 R) stands for Rimmed.

  • @moparmadness1 Exactly. Many people do not know codes on bullets and mixed calibers. Most mistakes between 7.92 x57mm and 8x57mm bullets like the one marked R (extended cap)

  • @moparmadness1

    It's spelled Kurz.

Trust me, German is my native language.

  • The SKS and AK series 7.62x39 round was a necked down 7.25X54r.It is a .311 diameter bullet NOT .308 .. The Russians copied the Germans lead when the Germans came out with the STG-44 in 7.92x33mm Kurz during WW2 . the Germans took their standard 7.92x57 mm or 8mm round .323 diameter, the same round they used in their K98 Bolt action rifle ,MG-34 and 42 Machine guns. They shorted the 8mm round to 7.92x33mm Krutz.. Krurtz in German means SHORT.

  • @moparmadness1 SKS uses caliber 7.62 x39mm. SKS is a copy of the AVS-36 caliber 7.62x54R (R-extended cap)SKS made Gavrilovic Sergei Simonov. AVS madeSergei Simonov. AK uses 7.62 x39mm and madeit by Mikhail Kalashnikov. AK I do not know whose copy. First ruskie rife is Mosin Nagant was madeSergei Ivanovich Mosin there are 8 types. Mosin rifle uses 3 types of caliber .7,62X54Rmm 7.62 x53mm, 7,92x57mm Russians do not use the 308,it's NATO caliber 7,62x51

  • Just acquired one...real nice, solid, built like a club. Cheap and powerful rounds. Minimal recoil, more like a .410. It's got quite a sharp, noisy bark. Happily, the windage is bang on, as it came right out of the crate. 3rd shot nailed a pop can at 50 yards. Should have bought two.

  • My job is a weapon - we have specialty sniper. I love the comment, read and learn about weapons.

  • Thank you sir

  • Great videos Hickok ! Keep them coming! Love your taste in guns!i would love to have one of these some day... I'm more intersted in the sks then the ak47..

  • any dislikers YOU ARE DEAD TO EVERY WEAPON LOVER

  • Beautiful rifle...there was a problem with this gun jamming but there is supposed to be a kit that can be used to overcome that; are these rifles available in California?

  • it was brilliant idea of the Russian to make all the ammos in steel , steel case, steel jacket

  • the actual name is Simonov SKS in 7.26x39 Russian designed in 1943 by Sergei Gavrilovich Simonov

  • What are the chances of this rifle's availability in 2014? Russian only, sorry China.

  • love russian guns

  • I have a russian one as well, and even though i have "better" guns there's something about the sks that makes it unique. also i like that the russians had everything self-contained on their guns (cleaning rod, cleaning kit, etc). it's a real "grab and go" kind of rifle.

  • I have a Russian SKS scout its got a bayonete and even a granade launcher! just awesome

  • @Waynside I've never heard of a russian sks with a grenade launcher. Sounds more like the Yugoslavian model. Still a beautiful rifle to have though.

  • @BiggieBiggs3691 I will have to look into it but thanks for the heads up man, I would hate to look like a dumbass lol but you are prob right it did have a tag on it that looked like yugo righting. and it looked like the stock seen action too but the rest of the gun is perfect

  • @Waynside Yugoslavia has produced a copy of the Simonov SKS. Yugoslav rifle is called PAP M59/66 7.62 x39 caliber. SKS and PAP were to look almost the same. PAP at the top of the pipe has continued to fire rifle grenades. Grenade is shot with a blank shot. PAP has a gas chamber at big sight for firing rifle grenades. PAP uses two types of grenade. Cumulative and current. Enough has been used here in Croatia during the war. Now, in the Croatian Army serves as honorary rifle.

  • @4gbrpauci wow thanks for all the info guys, but hey I usually do COD gameplay commentaries but I am going to be getting into some gun videos and gun Vlogs. you're input would be very important to me I will be recording a video with my SKS tomorrow so if you would like to sub I that would answer any questions on the type of gun it is

  • Good vid, thanks!

  • Russian sks are the best,i used mine to hunt hogs, that 762x39 burns then a new butt.

  • do you remember where you got the ghost ring sight on your old sks? id like to get one for mine, the sights just cant compare to an ar or enfield no.4 mk1

  • What type of ammo is usually cheapest overall? Not just 7.62 rounds but for any gun in general.

  • @BlurredFace depends plenty to pick from, in america I would assume 9mm rounds are fairly cheap, also 5.56 nato rounds they should be pretty cheap not sure on 7.62 not SURE if they are produced in the 'Americas' maybe south american nations. then you have chinese 5.8x21 ...not sure I would assume by its very nature that would be cheap, that or un-obtainable. anyway sorry I can't help much more.. go with 5.56 should be plenty cheap. =] (because made on mass for most of the western worlds armies).

  • @EpikCyAnid Thanks, I live in Canada so the American stuff should apply to me. Russian Surplus is actually REALLY cheap here, I think the local gunshop is selling SKS for $150ish, and Mosin Nagants for less. I'll look into Russian surplus ammo, if not something locally made.

I'm a lefty, but most guns don't come in left-handed configurations. Would an SKS or something semi-auto not throw brass at my arms?

  • @BlurredFace errm depends mate, left humm WELL SKS is my favourite weapon (rifles/ )

a Chinese Type 56 (Chinese made SKS) if you can get your hands on one. I cant see why not.. would be a nice option, you could have it modified if the cost is only around $150 to start with so its not throwing metal your way. bayonet is a nice option you can attached to the chinese one. (for the luls) low blockage rate, low maintain required.. umm pretty looking, thats more of an opinion, I would go chinese sks^^

  • @EpikCyAnid I suppose I could make a small shell deflector out of sheet metal, the cartridges seem to be flying out fast enough that I could bounce them over my arm. Thanks for the help!

  • @BlurredFace no problem man, good luck! look into getting it modified though should not be two heavy on cost.. really £150 is an amazing price.

  • @BlurredFace oh shit to add chinese one is a good option because I know for a fact they build weapons to be 'unisex' because their armies vast number of females, this aside I don't mean to blab on would lightly mean they, someone else could modify it for your left-handedness its an ass to be left handed, I 'taught' myself our of it as a kid, still open bottles though... >.>

  • @EpikCyAnid Ya, it can be a pain, especially when it comes to expensive hardware like guns. I'd only use a gun once in a blue moon to hunt or plink with friends, I live too far from any good places to shoot. In the past I've been able to hold paintball guns and stuff on my left shoulder but holding it right-handed. I can still shoot straight but I don't know how recoil will mess with me.

  • @BlurredFace paintball gun is win, simply because nothing stupidly hot is flying out trying its best (im sure the casings aim..) to burn you or the person next to you. anyway maybe drop me a PM when you make a choice I would be interested to see what you decide on, if i can help out with anymore ideas on it let me know :)

  • :0

That makes my Krink look like a toy gun D: The finish on that SKS is amazing! I need to get an Russian SKS soon..

  • Fantastic video! FPSRussia might beat you on flash, style, and antics, but your unscripted and effortless flow of KNOWLEDGE is really impressive. Thanks and keep up the good work, please. :)

  • funny about the bambi comment lol!

  • I had a Chinese Norinco with a 25 shot clip. Mine was post ban (had no bayonet lug) and I to this day wish I did not sell it.

  • Good looking piece of art man

  • Are you saying your SKS was never issued, or was rearsenaled and then not used after rebuild? Nice looking rifle, I am in the market for a Russian SKS and doing the research.

    Thanks

  • im 11 and i just got a sks as my first gun lol

  • mine still have the long term storage grease

  • I want to see this guy's garage...

  • @ShoodDaFckinWoop a lot of his rifles are not even his

  • @MrDip02 Sadness...

  • thats catch pin i mis spelled catch ill say it now befor the grammer nazi get me

  • well if ya didnt know you can easily mod a sks russian style to hold a 30 round magazine all i did was remove the pin holding the drop box and just put a ak-47 30 banna clip in it and it held in place just fine and also about you all saying you cant mod it to fire full auto i call BS i have mine set full auto by simply filing down the cath pin located directly under the main bolt assembly 1/8 ish of a inch so yes it can be modded to fire full auto and stop firing once you let off the trigger

  • @timberwolfshere you don't know what you're talking about. The Chinese SKS is a very quality made rifle and is extremely accurate, especially for the price. How about you research these guns before you go off and say which guns are good and which are bad, OK bud? Great video, hickok45.

  • the early chinese were good guns as long as ti was military instead civilian model

  • if yoll like the sks check out madmikeweapons yugo sks video its very good

  • Many people choose AK's or even AR's for "The Zombie Apocalypse." I would definitely choose my SKS. It's all tact'd out. Trigger job, Pro mags from 5 to 40 rounds, And It's modded for tac reloads (Exchange mags in battery). It's the perfect weapon when properly out fitted, IMO. I prefer them over AK's because they are tighter fitting, Not so much they loose that famous reliability, But to the point that they don't sound like a bucket of change when moving around.

  • I like mine. Whats best ammo to use?

  • i dont know why we need comments like thats crap or this is the only gun worth anything.they are just diff grades of rifle.they all work.i have a yugo sks its nice and its a great shooter.they are all pretty ugly really but hopefully we are not making love to em right.Be a little more calm and dont give ammo to the anti gunners.

  • beautiful rifle :) can't wait to get one

  • Romanian sks's are good i bought one for 300 dollars at cumblea.

    Did i do good?

  • Your videos are terrific. Your ability to combine education and entertainment is superb. I have a Yugo SKS and love shooting it. Thanks for making these videos.

  • Picked my Norinco Type 56, in 2007 at a gun show in Richmond, $200. Never had a single malfunction, I highly recommend one for anyone looking to get an SKS, they are in my opinion among the best, made on Soviet machinery, with Soviet technical advisers.

  • The Norinco SKS has Chrome lined Barrels which last twice as long compared to the russian,as i said before the Norinco SKS D is twice the gun as the russian i had both.

  • I WANT ONE. i actually shot one before too.

  • Yugo SKS-$200

Polymer stock with pistol grip- $80

    Tritium ghost sights- $100

    2 30 round mags- $60

Grabbing your skizz and goin innawoods- priceless

  • ^^^^ great nfo nice hearing information from intelligence

  • ha i remember years ago i met up with my marine recruiter and he was assembling an SKS. i think it was a chinese model though.

  • Guys, all SKS are fine (russian, chinese and yugo). I got them all.

  • Mine is by Norinco but can outshoot me! It is less accurate with the military ball rounds but I think it was PMC psp that I settled on. Not an over powering cartridge but it goes where I point it. Yes good deer medicine. It is ruggedly dependable also. The only problem I had with it was that the rear battle site would rise up. Never has locked down. Missed my first deer then tied it down with resin cord. Probably 3-400 rounds without a hiccup. Also the numbers match, no bayonet (Clinton).

  • by the way Hicock you rock ... you ve got the moves like Jagger ... keep informing us about all the cool stuff out there

  • it sure as hell would make a good shtf rifle

  • can you shoot bear with it ?

  • I can assure you that noone starved in USSR from 1950 onwards. Unemployment was none existent so was hunger. One thing i will agree with is that they put most of their money on arms.

  • @Ouija121085 here here.. i second that because from the 50 all the way up to the mid 80 were known in USSR as the heaven on earth period of time you didnt have to pay for medical care , education was free, you didnt need insurance, or loans from banks to buy a house no mortgages, and not everyone was a communist in that country only those who chose to be in the communist party..

  • I pity anyone who was shot with this gun, the power is immense.

  • I click like on all your videos hickok! keep up the good work!

  • nice weapon

  • i miss my SKS

  • there easlily convertible to have a detachable mag mine does and its full auto its easy to make it auto

  • @02insaneshane congrats... you just admitted to committing a felony on the internet.

  • @foxvw lol it's only a felony if you actually possess the illegal rifle in question, my guess is he's never seen one in person let alone own one lol.....

  • Comment removed

  • @gunfuego ummm you didnt read his comment very carefully did you? he says his is full auto and it is easy to convert. in other videos, he claims to have converted them in the past. so YES it is a felony.

  • @gunfuego and what the crap is that supposed to mean? how can he have one but not possess it?

  • @foxvw lol wow I was joking about the fact he may have talked about converting one, but didn't truly own one but I guess he has some videos I didn't know about....

  • @foxvw how?

  • @PaintballerReviews how what?

  • @foxvw unbelievable, man... shit like that is the reason they keep threatening to take our toys away. =/

  • @foxvw How is that a felony?

  • @foxvw Not if he did it legally.

  • @02insaneshane You my friend are a derp. I don't care if your weapon is full auto. You are an idiot for admitting on the internet...(face palm)

  • @02insaneshane I hope it blows up on you someday. Anyone dumb enough to convert them should be blown up. All it does is make us loyal, law abiding firearm owners look like criminals.

  • @02insaneshane how is it even possible to convert an sks to fully auto? Are you talking about filing the firepin down and make it empty the magazine every time?

  • @02insaneshane converting a gun to full auto is stupid, makes the gun less accurate, plus you'll go through more rounds. People convert the clip to a removable because they put a scope on it which covers up the feeding through the top, and I don't know if that is legal or not I wanna say its a gray area, but since the sks did come with a removable clip so the ATF would probably let it slide.

  • @02insaneshane

    You are an idiot.

  • @02insaneshane You sir can not convert a sks to full auto i call bullshit on that...i live in Canada and and you cant get any gun that can be converted to full auto with out restricted license and you can get this gun nonrestricted at any gun shop...

  • @crusty36912 Actually :) I live in Canada too (Ontario specifically) I know we're not supposed to be able to get guns that can be converted, but... Go to the website for the Crown Surplus in Calgary. They sell manuals to convert to an SKS to full auto and make it accept AK mags.

  • @GiarcraiGO Wow that's great, you own a banned firearm keep talking about on the internet im sure it will work out well for you....not so bright....you must be form Toronto.

  • @crusty36912 lmao I'm "from" Hamilton actually, not "form" Toronto :P

You should really work on your literacy and grammar skills!

I never said I converted an SKS, nor did I say I bought the manual to do so; I only said the book is FOR SALE ON A Crown Surplus WEB PAGE. (I tried to post the link here for you to see but I'm having an issue with that). And WTF is with that TO comment?

    Where are you from genius?

  • @GiarcraiGO mistook you for 02insaneshane. I'm form Toronto but live in northern SK now must of lost some of my literacy & grammar skills along the way LOL. I still think this is not good issue to discuss on the net we have enough bull shit gun laws as it is don't want to lose are SKS's to. Thank god the registry will be done in a few weeks.I apologize if i offended you and hope my grammar is up to pare with your standers .

  • @crusty36912 if you can own a semi auto you can convert it to a fully automatic by cutting parts of the receiver it's not difficult but highly highly illegal with proper authority im just guessing like what a 100k fine and loads of time in prison

  • @02insaneshane Any rifle is easy...

  • @02insaneshanewell wow dumbass -_-

  • @timberwolfshere Are you mentally incapable of telling the difference between a finely made Russian SKS or a Chinese piece of garbage? Norinco are Chinese crap because they are less reliable, less accurate and the overall quality is significantly lower. I owned both and the Chinese one is nothing compared to the Russian. Also, the bayonet on the norinco modles suck...

  • @1337Leva actually a yugo or a norinco can compare to a russian one in quality but quality does differ..

  • @1337Leva then why you want to own the Chinese crap? r u mentally incapable too?

  • @MrLsong01 He must've been ignorant or skeptical of internet reviews on it so wanted to try it himself. Now he can't sell it because it's a chinese SKS.

  • @1337Leva What about the Yugoslavian SKS?

  • @1337Leva

Just to point out, there are at least 3 major build qualities for the Chinese SKS: early (late 50's), middle (60's), and late (under Norinco name). The early to mid production rifles are pretty much at par with soviet samples as many of them actually used a mix of USSR produced parts. It's only the late production models that they started skimping; stamped receiver, shorter barrel collar etc. The only advantage you'd get from them is a chrome lined barrel.

  • @1337Leva Owned 3 different SKS Russian model,Norinco fixed mag and Norinco Detachable mag that takes AK-47 mags, and the norinco SKS-D was the most accurate and never jammed, the others did jam,Norinco has chrome lined barrels that lasts twice as long as Russian SKS,Leva did you ever own one?Or have you shot russian SKS on your video game?Your obviously mental and wouldnt be able to tell the differences if u held them in your hands.

  • @timberwolfshere Owned Norinco fixed,Norinco SKS-D,And Russian SKS rather

  • @1337Leva Yugos are also excellent

  • @1337Leva have chinese wish had russian love the sks

  • @1337Leva the chinese one is still better than most rifles you can buy

  • I've seen this vid more than once... still love it!

  • Very informative, thanks!

  • I don't like rhe rear of this gun :(

  • How is the accuracy compared to the AK?

  • @Saigax12 iv had both at one point or another and have several friends that have had some of both. it all depends on the overall quality of the machining and most importantly the condition of the barrel. but the sks generally enjoys better accuracy, and also a more robust build. not to mention some extra velocity due to longer barrel.

  • @stubbsmuffin Thanks. I know alot of it depends on the grain and velocity and whatnot. Any idea how much one with a fixed magazine costs?

  • @Saigax12 all sks's come with fixed magazines, unless heavily modified. but if you look around and put in the research you can find new to nearly new ones from $260 to $350 all day.

  • @stubbsmuffin No not all SKS come with fixed magazines,i had a Norinco SKS D and it took AK-47 mags, the norinco is a much better SKS than the Russian!

  • @timberwolfshere lol , you're delusional . Those norinco POS's are stamped , the russian models are milled . The only SKS I own that has jammed on me or had any kind of malfunction is my Type-56 chinese

  • Good Vid my friend, well done, not allot of people who know thier guns now. Keep them up verry well done :)

  • I'll give you $100 for it right now. :)

  • Hickok you always talk about your length of pull. How tall are you?

  • $59 i want one too for that!!

  • I got one for my 22 b day

  • @coltonslick Yeah I made sure. I should be getting mine soon :D

  • here in canada you can buy cases of 1400 polish surplus rounds for an sks or ak for about $280. Just the cost of shooting is making me consider one.

  • @coltonslick most sites are 200-250 in canada. Check wolverine supplies and frontier firearms

  • @coltonslick thats too much man buy it for 180+ship online

  • @coltonslick Wow man, so from the research I've been doing this sounds like a good deal. They used to be $100 or less years ago...but the $280 including ammo pouch and bayonet isn't too bad.

  • Is the Cabelas price of $280 much for this gun?

  • @WhatUGawkinAt yes in Alberta they are 169

  • I have a China SKS with a spike bayanet

  • @gwkelly3 It was made in Russia, then sold to the Chinese, I have the same rifle as you.

  • @10010110100102Error i am also german yet ironically my 3 bff's are 2 germans and filipino. Kind of unlikely but we are all good. and yes, one german has blue eyes.

  • Comment removed

  • @GlockAnimal 1995 was when the SKS was $100.00 and the AKs were around $300.00. I bought a Norinco SKS for $100.00 dollars during the Clinton "Gun Panick" and sold it ro $280.00 during the Obama "Gun Panick".

  • good eyesight man

  • i have a 14 year old son and i was wondering if he could handle the recoil. he has shot a 410 and a 22. can someone tell me the answer

  • @poopweener35 I'm 14, If you look at a couple of a SKS videos you'll know that the recoil is pretty manageable. The 7.62x39mm rounds won't knock your son back just as long he keeps a strong stance.

  • @JamesBayCree97 ok thank you

  • @poopweener35 Yeah I shoot a Mosin Nagant which is a 7.62X54 and the recoil is not a problem for me and I'm 15.

  • @poopweener35

    yes!

  • @poopweener35 I hunted my first time with a russian sks It has some recoil it hurts the next day but I was 12 I think when i first shot it and i think i only weighed like 120 at that time. Its a nice reliable rifle wish I owned one.

  • @Pinky117x ok thank you

  • the sks will take a 30 rond magazine

  • hey, in school we were studying the cold war and looking at some of the videos you would have been shown, and honestly were you actualy told that even a newspaper would save you? cos if you did your government was pretty "different".

  • This is a very good rifle for the money, In canada you can get them for under $200 in excellent condition. They'll shoot accuratly and function reliably, and they will last a very long time if you maintain them correctly. The 7.62x39mm cartridge is also deceivingly powerful for its size, I've seen it penetrate through solid wood thats 10 inches thick or more with fmj rounds. No centerfire semi auto rifle can compare to it at that price. I have one of these and its a very high quality item.

  • Don't blow down barrel

  • @cashcow1981 what do you mean?

  • @sergeykazantsev1, regarding barry- AMEN BROTHER!!!!

  • Swear to god the opening shooting I counted elven!

  • @UraniumForUsNow In some rifles you can 10 in the magazine and 1 in the chamber. My yugo m59/66 does anyways.

  • @DakotaDethklok But that seems almost impossible on an sks, or the ones like he's shooting, since in order to load it you have to have the bolt open. Huh well idk.

  • @UraniumForUsNow It really isnt hard. You open the action, load the mag, pull the bolt back, hold the ammo down, slowly let the bolt forward, once it gets forward enough to not feed, you place another round in, then release the slide. You need me to make you a video?

  • Norinco Sks Dragonuv stock shooting vid on my channel!

    Thanks guys

  • Yes, we love our weapons .

  • you guys know where i could get parts for mine? Like a bolt and anything else.

  • My friend has the chinese model and it either jams or the plunger clogs EVER TIME HE SHOOTS IT.

  • @SaskatoonRedneck That's because it's Chinese. I had the same issue until I picked up a Russian made SKS. Never had a problem since.

  • @SaskatoonRedneck Thats China for yah! Possibly the worst version of the SK

  • @SaskatoonRedneck He needs to clean it then. I have a chinese SKS, i have put well over 1000 rounds through it and never had a jam. I clean it every time i shoot and keep it oiled up.

  • Bad gun -guy from finland

  • @MultiGmod123 lol

  • MADE IN THE UNION OF SOVIET SOCIALIST REPUBLICS
